You can use FFmpeg to send a repeating playlist of Malayalam movie songs to a YouTube live event, but the technical setup does not grant permission to use the songs. First clear the rights for each recording and musical work, then prepare compatible media files, configure a YouTube event, and test the stream before relying on it. YouTube may still interrupt licensed music unless the relevant Content ID owner has allowlisted your channel.
Before you build the playlist, clear the music rights
For every track, identify the exact recording and the people or companies that control the relevant rights. A Malayalam film song can involve both an underlying musical work and a particular sound recording. Permission to download or listen to a track is not, by itself, permission to broadcast it in a public YouTube livestream.

Ask the relevant label, distributor, publisher, or other rights holders for written permission covering your intended use. Confirm the territories, public online livestreaming, monetization, and whether YouTube may keep an archive of the broadcast. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using protected music.

If you are broadcasting from India, the Copyright Act distinguishes musical works and sound recordings and describes rights that include communication to the public. Those general provisions do not identify the owners of a particular song or establish that a particular licence covers your stream. Do not assume that a statutory broadcasting-licence mechanism automatically covers an individual creator’s 24/7 YouTube stream; the available legal material does not establish eligibility for this use.

Ask for Content ID allowlisting too
A licence and a Content ID allowlist address different parts of the problem. YouTube says licensed creators should ask the content owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without that step, a licensed stream may still be flagged or interrupted.
Prepare compatible files and a playlist
Use only media you are authorized to stream. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text file containing a sequence of media files and presents them one after another. Its documentation requires the inputs to have matching streams, including codecs and time bases. Incorrect duration information can cause artifacts, and mismatched stream lengths can create gaps when the timeline is adjusted.
Make the playlist file
Create a plain-text file such as playlist.txt, with one file entry for each recording, in the order you want it played:

If a filename contains a quote or other characters that need escaping, follow the concat demuxer’s file-list syntax rather than assuming every path can be copied verbatim. Check the list for missing files and unintended duplicates before starting.

Check compatibility and transitions
- Inspect the files with the FFmpeg build you will actually use. Confirm that the playlist entries have compatible streams, codecs, and time bases.
- If they are not compatible, prepare normalized copies with matching technical parameters before concatenating them. The right parameters depend on the files and the selected YouTube ingest path, so there is no single safe set of values for every playlist.
- Play through several transitions locally. A concat list alone does not promise gapless playback or seamless changes between tracks.
- Keep the originals and a clear track inventory so you can identify which recording is playing if a rights notice appears.
Create the YouTube live event and get its ingest details
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live event and retrieve the ingest details for the stream. YouTube’s live-streaming model associates a broadcast with a live stream; Studio provides the corresponding event and encoder setup for creators. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your event.
Use the ingest URL and key supplied for that event, and configure FFmpeg for the ingest protocol YouTube has assigned or that you selected. Do not substitute HLS-specific settings into an RTMP workflow. YouTube documents HLS as a separate ingest option with requirements including M2TS media, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, a closed GOP, and one audio track. Its HLS guide describes segments generally lasting one to four seconds and not exceeding five seconds. These are HLS requirements, not universal instructions for every FFmpeg stream.
No universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval is established for every account, event, and ingest protocol. Use the current encoder settings shown for your event and the requirements for its selected protocol rather than copying values from an unrelated HLS or RTMP example.

The following is a template for a compatible playlist sent through an RTMP-style ingest. Replace the output with the ingest address and stream key from your YouTube event. It assumes that the files already have matching streams and parameters suitable for stream copy; it is not a universal command for mixed media or HLS.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt -c copy -f flv "<YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL>/<STREAM_KEY>"-f concat selects the concat demuxer, -i playlist.txt supplies its file list, -stream_loop -1 asks FFmpeg to repeat the input, and -re reads it at a real-time rate. -c copy avoids re-encoding; use it only when the files are compatible with one another and the chosen output. The -safe 0 setting permits file paths that the concat demuxer would otherwise reject as unsafe, so use it only with a playlist you control. Validate the command with your installed FFmpeg build and a short test before scheduling a long broadcast.
This template does not add encoder settings that depend on your files or YouTube’s event configuration. If the inputs cannot be copied as-is, prepare compatible media first or configure an appropriate encode for the selected ingest. Keep the stream key out of public logs and screenshots, and avoid sharing a command containing the key.
Test the stream and monitor it while live
YouTube for Artists says first-time live-stream access should be verified at least 24 hours before the first broadcast. Check the account’s current eligibility and feature availability in YouTube Studio, since they are account-specific. Before a public launch, test with an unlisted event and watch the Studio dashboard for stream status and copyright notices.

- Let the stream run across several playlist transitions. Check for missing audio, frozen video, unexpected gaps, and FFmpeg errors.
- Confirm the event is using the intended playlist and that the next tracks continue playing.
- Watch Studio for copyright notices or warnings. An unlisted test is useful for checking the technical setup, but it does not grant music rights or guarantee that a later public stream will avoid enforcement.
Know what can happen to music streams
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may show a placeholder image, warn the operator, or interrupt or terminate a stream if matched material continues. The issue can arise even when a creator says the music is licensed; YouTube’s guidance is to have the owner add the channel to the Content ID allowlist. Territorial restrictions on a rights holder’s content do not remove that allowlist issue.

If you archive the broadcast, a Content ID claim may arrive after the live stream ends. A credit line, noncommercial intent, short excerpt, audio-only presentation, or private/unlisted test is not a technical setting that prevents copyright enforcement. Choose a playlist and ingest workflow

Troubleshoot common failures
FFmpeg stops after one pass
Check that the input loop option is present in the command and positioned before the playlist input. Confirm that the installed FFmpeg build accepts it for the concat input, and inspect the console output for file-list or demuxer errors.
Playback breaks or shows artifacts between tracks
Check whether every input has matching streams, codecs, and time bases, and whether duration information is accurate. Test transitions in the exact FFmpeg build and media set you intend to use. A playlist is not a promise of seamless joins.

Verify that the event is live and that FFmpeg is using that event’s current ingest address and stream key. Check for a mistyped or expired key and ensure the output format matches the selected ingest protocol. Do not post the key while asking for help.

The picture or audio is rejected by the ingest
Check the selected protocol’s requirements against the actual output streams. In particular, do not apply HLS requirements as though they were universal RTMP settings. If stream copy is incompatible with the output, prepare or encode compatible media and retest.
The stream is interrupted or shows a placeholder
Check YouTube Studio for notices and identify the matched track. Resolve the rights issue with the appropriate owner and ask for channel allowlisting where the content is licensed. Restarting FFmpeg alone does not resolve a Content ID restriction.
A claim appears after the broadcast
Review the archived event and the claim details, then contact the relevant rights holder or use YouTube’s available claim process if you believe the use is authorized. A live stream can receive a Content ID claim after it ends.
