YouTube does not guarantee unattended 24/7 availability, and the platform guidance cited here does not establish which Indian music licences apply to a Malayalam internet broadcast.
Choose the station format
Decide whether the stream will play prerecorded Malayalam music and announcements, feature a live host, or combine both. YouTube Live receives an audiovisual feed, so even a music-first station needs video output. That might be a suitable visual feed; YouTube’s encoder documentation does not prescribe a particular radio graphic or software product.

Check YouTube Live eligibility before announcing a launch
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days to stream live. First-time activation can take time, so check the channel’s current live-stream status in YouTube Studio before promoting a start time. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming for setups that use overlays or external audio equipment. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview.
YouTube Help also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. These are simultaneous-stream limits, not a promise of 24/7 service.

Clear music rights before going live
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to obtain the necessary rights, including relevant music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants, and to comply with applicable local rules. YouTube’s terms do not identify the specific Indian licensing route for a Malayalam internet radio broadcast. Do not assume a licence for terrestrial radio or another use automatically covers a YouTube stream; get India-specific advice on the repertoire, territory, and intended use before launch. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service.
Keep a record of permissions for both the sound recordings and the underlying musical works, as applicable. A licence and YouTube Content ID allowlisting address different risks: having permission does not by itself prevent an automated live interruption.

Set up the encoder and test the feed
- Prepare the program. Organize the music and announcements you have permission to use. For a host-led show, connect and check the presenter’s microphone or other audio input; music-only playback does not inherently require a microphone.
- Create the audiovisual output. Combine the station’s audio with an appropriate video feed. Choose an encoder workflow that supports your setup; the platform guidance cited here does not endorse a specific encoder.
- Open YouTube Studio and configure a live stream. Follow the current live-control-room prompts to create or schedule the broadcast and connect the encoder. Confirm the stream key and destination in YouTube Studio before sending a signal, and do not share the key publicly.
- Choose a supported ingestion protocol. RTMPS is a documented secure ingestion option. HLS has its own requirements: YouTube’s guidance calls for one encoded stream with muxed audio and video over HTTPS, maintained on a persistent connection. Follow the instructions for the protocol you actually choose rather than mixing requirements.
- Run a controlled test. Check that the incoming signal includes both audio and video, that playback is intelligible and continuous, and that the encoder connects successfully. Use a private or otherwise controlled setup check before a public launch.

Prepare for Content ID interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can trigger a warning, a placeholder image, an interruption, or termination. YouTube says that a channel with a licence may still be interrupted if the content owner has not added it to the relevant Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights owner about allowlisting your channel before broadcasting licensed catalog music, and confirm the channel is added where applicable. Assign someone to watch stream health and rights warnings, and establish who will respond if the encoder, network, or power fails. If chat is enabled, decide who will monitor it. These are operational safeguards, not a YouTube uptime guarantee.
Plan the archive separately from the live broadcast
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For an all-day station, do not treat a single continuous broadcast as the only copy of the program. Schedule deliberate session boundaries or make and store separate local recordings, then verify each segment. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup.
