For a single file, put -stream_loop -1 before its -i input option. A running command is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service: your computer, FFmpeg process, internet connection, and YouTube session all need to keep working.
What you need before streaming
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guide.
- The necessary rights to every recording, backing track, image, and video in the playlist. A devotional subject does not automatically clear a particular recording or video for streaming.
- FFmpeg installed on a computer or server that can remain on, plus a stable internet connection with upload capacity above the stream’s bitrate.
- A stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio, with its current stream URL and stream key.
YouTube describes the stream key as the encoder’s password and address information. Keep it private: do not post it in a public script, screenshot, or chat. You can review the encoder workflow in YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.

Prepare the Gujarati devotional video files
Check the source files
Before building a playlist, inspect each file’s video and audio streams, codecs, resolution, frame rate, and duration. Files that differ in stream layout, codec, or time base may not work reliably together with the concat demuxer and stream copy. FFmpeg documents these requirements and limitations in its concat demuxer documentation.

Make a concat playlist for multiple files
Create a plain-text file named playlist.txt with one file entry per line, in the order you want them played:

file '/path/to/aarti-01.mp4'Use paths that exist on the machine running FFmpeg. If a path contains an apostrophe, escape it according to FFmpeg’s concat-demuxer syntax. The files should have compatible streams and time bases. When durations or stream layouts are inconsistent, playback can fail or transition incorrectly; normalize the files rather than relying on a playlist to fix them.
Create the YouTube Live session and protect the key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that session. Use the current values from Live Control Room rather than an old saved destination.
- Choose RTMPS when the YouTube ingest options and your FFmpeg build support it. YouTube explains encrypted ingestion at Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Store the key somewhere private. Avoid embedding it in a shared script or terminal command that may be saved in shell history or visible to others; use a protected environment or a private local script where practical.
Set encoder quality for YouTube
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a keyframe interval of about two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. For H.264, the listed recommendations include:

These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a promise that a particular source will look good at every bitrate. Choose settings appropriate to the source and test them against the connection’s sustained upload capacity. Run one video in an infinite loop
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 option loops an input indefinitely. Put it before the -i that names the video. The example below is a template, not a universal ready-to-run command: replace the input path, URL, key, and encoding choices with values suitable for your files and installed FFmpeg build.

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"The example’s video bitrate and keyframe settings are illustrative for a 30 fps output: a 60-frame GOP is approximately two seconds at that frame rate. Adjust the GOP if you choose a different frame rate. Verify that the destination format, codec, and bitrate match the current YouTube guidance and your actual stream. The RTMPS address and key are placeholders; retrieve the real values from Live Control Room. FFmpeg’s input-loop option and its placement are documented in the FFmpeg command-line documentation.

Run a compatible file playlist in sequence
For sequential playback, use the concat demuxer as the input and loop that input. Keep -stream_loop -1 before the playlist input’s -i:

-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"Use -safe 0 only when the playlist needs paths the concat demuxer otherwise rejects; keep the playlist and paths under your control. This command assumes the listed files are compatible for concatenation. If they are not, normalize them or use a pipeline that decodes and re-encodes the inputs consistently. A single-file loop is often the simpler option when the content is one prepared compilation.
Start, preview, and monitor the broadcast
- Start FFmpeg from a terminal on the machine that will run the stream. Keep the process running; closing the terminal or stopping the process can end transmission, depending on how it was launched.
- Open the matching session in YouTube Live Control Room and wait for the incoming feed to appear in the preview.
- Check the stream-health indicators and confirm that both picture and audio are present before making the stream public or relying on it.
- Monitor the FFmpeg process, network connection, audio, and video during operation. For unattended operation, plan how you will detect a stopped process or lost connection and restart it safely.
- Test backup encoder failover in advance if you have configured it. YouTube recommends setup, testing, preview checks, and ongoing monitoring in its live-streaming tips.
FFmpeg looping covers playback repetition, not resilience. A local setup can stop if the computer sleeps or reboots, the process exits, the connection drops, or the live session ends. A VPS or dedicated server is one way to keep the process on a machine intended to run continuously, but it still needs configuration, monitoring, and recovery planning.

Confirm rights to every part of the stream
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, including applicable music rights. Confirm that you have permission for the exact Gujarati bhajan or kirtan recording, accompanying music, artwork, and footage—not only the underlying devotional composition. The terms are set out in YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Do not assume one 24/7 session will archive in full
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise a complete archive for a single stream lasting longer than 12 hours. If you need replays, consider ending and restarting scheduled sessions before that limit, then verify current behavior in Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Common problems and fixes
- YouTube receives no video: Check that FFmpeg is still running, the stream URL and key belong to the active session, and the output is using a supported container and codec. Re-copy the current ingest details from Live Control Room if in doubt.
- The key is rejected or the wrong stream appears: Confirm that you copied the key for the intended session and have not included stray spaces or changed characters. Treat a leaked key as compromised and replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- The playlist stops at a transition: The files may have incompatible stream layouts, codecs, time bases, or duration metadata. Normalize them to matching properties and test the transitions before relying on the playlist.
- FFmpeg exits immediately: Read the first error in the terminal output. Check input paths and playlist syntax, confirm the FFmpeg build includes the required encoders and protocol support, and verify that the output options match the selected source and destination.
- Video stutters or YouTube reports poor stream health: Compare the configured bitrate with sustained upload capacity, reduce the bitrate or resolution if necessary, and test again. A connection that briefly reaches the target is not enough for a continuous stream.
- The stream disconnects and does not resume: Check the network, process status, and YouTube session. Automatic recovery depends on how the encoder and platform behave; do not assume an FFmpeg loop restarts a failed transmission. Add monitoring and a tested restart or failover procedure.
- The stream is live but the replay is incomplete or missing: A single session exceeding YouTube’s under-12-hour auto-archive guidance is not assured a complete archive. Use shorter sessions if a complete replay matters.
