YouTube does not provide one universal loop control for every encoder, so configure playback and restart behavior in the software or service you choose.
How do I run a continuous YouTube stream of gaming challenge videos?
The basic setup is a sequence of prerecorded challenge videos playing through an encoder into a YouTube live stream. YouTube identifies encoders as a common option for gameplay and overlays: “Encoders let you stream gameplay, overlays, and use hardware like preamps, mics, and cameras.” The exact media-source, playlist, loop, and restart controls depend on the encoder; consult its current manual rather than assuming the same controls across applications.

1. Prepare a deliberate video sequence
Use videos your channel made or that you have permission to use. Arrange them in a clear order, with distinct challenge titles and brief context. Commentary, explanations, or varied editorial framing can help viewers understand why each segment is in the stream and add value beyond simply repeating footage.

Before using a game, check its current creator or video policy. Also check music and other embedded assets separately: permission to show gameplay does not necessarily grant rights to every soundtrack or third-party element in the recording.

2. Check that the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The account must also meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement. Check the current requirements for the account before planning a broadcast.
3. Create or schedule the YouTube stream
In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and choose the encoder option. Scheduling creates an upcoming watch page that you can share in advance; you can also reuse settings from a previous stream. Review any copied title, description, privacy setting, and stream-key selection before using them. YouTube’s instructions are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Manage live stream settings.
4. Connect the encoder and start playback

In YouTube Studio’s stream setup, retrieve the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.

Enter the URL and key in your chosen encoder. Select that encoder’s media-playback or playlist method and add the prepared video sequence.

Configure the encoder’s playback order, looping, audio routing, and restart behavior using its own current documentation. Confirm the audio is audible and that the next video starts as intended.

Start the encoder feed. For a scheduled stream, check the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room, then click Go live when it is ready. Follow YouTube’s current stream-setting guidance if labels or controls differ.

5. Keep sessions manageable
If you want YouTube to save an archive, end the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours and start a new session when needed. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Very long broadcasts can also limit or remove DVR rewind for viewers. YouTube documents this limitation in Turn on DVR on live streams. Shorter sessions mean more encoder restarts to manage, but make it easier to preserve separate archives and give each broadcast a fresh title and context.
Rights, copyright checks, and monetization
Clear gameplay, music, and other assets
You are responsible for having the rights needed for both live and archived material under YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt a broadcast when it detects a rights issue. If you have a licence for material that triggers Content ID, ask the rights owner whether your channel needs to be allowlisted. Read Copyright issues with live streams and verify the rules for the specific game and its assets.

Do not assume repeated footage is monetizable
YouTube’s channel monetization policy, clarified on July 15, 2025, describes highly repetitive or mass-produced material with little original value as “inauthentic content.” Reused content is assessed separately and needs significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value under the policy. Because review applies to the channel as a whole, looping challenge footage is not automatically eligible for monetization. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
