Choose where your recorded videos will play
The key decision is where the video playback and encoding will run. Pick a method that matches how much equipment you already have and how unattended the stream needs to be.

Check channel eligibility before announcing a launch
YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of your planned start. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility requirements and its live streaming setup guidance.
Prepare the cooking-video playlist and rights
Organize the program
Choose the videos in the order you want viewers to encounter them, and decide whether the playlist should repeat. Check that each file has usable picture and sound and that the playlist does not create long unintended gaps. Keep the original files: a live broadcast should not be treated as your only copy or as a guaranteed complete replay.

Clear every element for live and archived use
Confirm that you have the necessary rights for each video, soundtrack, image and other included material for the intended live broadcast and any archive. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility for necessary rights on the provider. YouTube also says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast,” in its copyright guidance for live streams.
A license does not necessarily prevent a live interruption: if a rights owner uses Content ID, the channel may need to be allowlisted by that owner. A match can cause a placeholder, interruption or termination. Resolve permissions and any needed allowlisting before you start a long-running stream.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect your encoder
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one for later. Scheduling can give viewers a watch page to visit and the option to set a reminder; it does not provide the video playback itself. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Copy the stream URL and key. In the event’s stream settings, copy YouTube’s stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder or playout service. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish or share it.
- Set up the playlist in your playout method. For a computer encoder, select the cooking videos and configure playback or looping in the encoder. For a hosted service, upload or select the videos and create the playlist there. For standalone hardware, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for loading or scheduling media.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Send the feed to YouTube, then confirm that the incoming video and audio appear in Live Control Room. Check the watch page and audio/video quality before beginning the planned broadcast or making the event public.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Once the preview is correct, start the stream in YouTube’s control room if the workflow requires it. For continuous operation, arrange a way to notice a failed input or network connection and recover it. YouTube advises using a reliable network and monitoring the stream.
Set bandwidth and test for stability
Use a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the encoder’s total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond that bitrate. For example, if your stream uses 10 Mbps total, plan for roughly 12 Mbps of available upload capacity rather than treating 10 Mbps as a safe ceiling. This is a headroom recommendation, not a guarantee against network interruptions.
- Test the full path from video playback through encoding to YouTube preview before the scheduled start.
- Check that the preview’s sound is present and at a suitable level, and that the image is not frozen or unexpectedly cropped.
- Prefer a reliable wired connection where practical; avoid making a continuous stream depend on an unstable connection.
- Keep a person or recovery process responsible for noticing when the feed stops. A schedule alone does not restore a failed input or connection.
Plan for archives and viewer rewind
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. Its DVR guidance also says rewind can be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. These are separate conditions, not a promise that a 24/7 event will produce one complete archive or let viewers rewind to its beginning. For a continuous cooking channel, retain the source recordings and check current YouTube Studio behavior for your planned duration.

Troubleshoot common failures
