You can loop a video on YouTube Live from a gaming laptop by adding the local file as an OBS Studio Media Source, enabling Loop, and sending the scene to YouTube with a stream URL and key. For 4K at 60fps, YouTube recommends a video bitrate of 35 Mbps with AV1 or H.265, or 50 Mbps with H.264. Those are encoder video-bitrate recommendations—not guarantees that an internet plan or laptop can sustain the broadcast. Test the exact setup at the intended location and time before going live.
Before you start: prepare the YouTube channel
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. If live streaming has not been enabled before, activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete this well ahead of the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

- A video file stored on the laptop, or a playlist you can open in OBS.
- OBS Studio installed and a laptop encoder that can handle your chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, and scene.
- A measured, stable upload connection at the place and time you intend to stream.
Set up a looping video in OBS
- Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or manage a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in OBS under its stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the broadcast, then add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- Enable the loop. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS supports video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM; see OBS Media Sources.
- For a playlist, use VLC Video. Add a VLC Video source, choose the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Set the canvas and output for 4K60. Configure the stream for 3840×2160 at 60fps, then select a codec supported by the laptop’s encoder. Use the bitrate and other ingest settings in the next section rather than assuming OBS’s defaults are right for this target.
- Start with a private or otherwise suitable test. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast. Confirm that the picture, audio, loop, and stream health are as expected before relying on the setup for a long run.
4K 60fps YouTube encoder settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance, checked on October 3, 2026, gives these settings for the live video stream. The bitrate is for video; it does not state the upload capacity required for every network once audio and connection variation are considered. See the YouTube live encoder settings table.

|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 3840×2160 (4K) at 60fps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC video bitrate | 35 Mbps recommended; 10 Mbps minimum |
| H.264 video bitrate | 50 Mbps recommended; 14 Mbps minimum |
| Rate control | CBR |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Ingest protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS |
| SDR color | Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth in YouTube’s advanced settings |
| Latency at 4K | Normal latency; the low-latency option is unavailable at 4K |
Choosing between AV1/H.265 and H.264
AV1 and H.265 have a lower recommended video bitrate in YouTube’s table than H.264, but that does not make either codec universally best for a gaming laptop. The available encoder options and their workload depend on the laptop. Choose a codec the installed hardware encoder supports, then test it at the intended 4K60 settings. Do not change to a codec only because its bitrate recommendation is lower if the laptop cannot encode it reliably.

How much upload speed do you need in India?
Use YouTube’s bitrate figure as the video encoder target, not as a promise that a connection advertised at the same upload speed will work. A broadcast also has audio and network variation to account for, and upload performance can differ by location and time. No single Indian ISP, plan, Wi-Fi standard, or mobile network is established as sufficient for every setup.
- Run an upload speed test from the actual laptop and broadcast location.
- Repeat it near the time you expect to stream; a single measurement does not show how stable the connection will be over a long session.
- Leave headroom above the selected video bitrate rather than planning to use all measured upload capacity for video.
- Run a real OBS test at the full resolution, frame rate, codec, and scene complexity. Watch YouTube’s stream health during the test.
Can a gaming laptop sustain the stream?
The label “gaming laptop” is not enough to establish that it can encode and send a particular 4K60 scene reliably. OBS’s basic Windows requirements include Windows 10 or 11 and a DirectX 10.1-compatible GPU, but the project cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its CPU demands vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. See OBS system requirements.

- UPGRADE WITH TOOL-FREE ACCESS – No screwdriver needed. Customize your RAM, SSD, and fans instantly with a tool-less latch design.
Prefer a supported hardware encoder if one is available, then test the actual stream. A static video loop may be less demanding than a complex scene, but only a test with your chosen file, settings, and laptop can confirm whether the setup holds steady. Minimum requirements are not a performance guarantee.
Preflight and troubleshooting
The video ends instead of restarting
- For one local file, reopen the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled.
- For a playlist, confirm you added a VLC Video source and enabled Loop Playlist; check that VLC is installed and matches OBS’s 64-bit or 32-bit architecture.
YouTube does not receive the broadcast
- Check that OBS has the correct YouTube stream URL and the current stream key.
- Confirm the channel is eligible for live streaming and that first-time activation has completed.
- Keep the stream key private. If it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
The stream drops frames or health is poor
- Compare the selected video bitrate with stable upload capacity measured at the streaming location; do not rely on a plan’s advertised speed alone.
- Check the encoder, resolution, and frame rate against the laptop’s actual capabilities. Try a supported hardware encoder and run the full test again.
- Use YouTube’s recommended CBR rate control, a 2-second keyframe interval (never over 4 seconds), and RTMPS where configured.
The preview looks wrong or audio is missing
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting and verify the scene’s selected source, video, and audio.
- Test with representative motion and audio, then monitor stream health and audio/video while live, as YouTube recommends.
- At 4K, expect normal latency; low latency is not available for this resolution.
Copyright and repeat broadcasts
Looping a file does not grant permission to stream its contents. Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights or authorization needed for the video, music, and other material in it. YouTube’s live-stream eligibility and monitoring guidance is available in its live-streaming tips. A successful technical test does not establish that a video is cleared for use or eligible for monetization.
