You can rebroadcast GTA roleplay session VODs as a continuous YouTube live stream by feeding a playlist of recordings into an encoder connected to a YouTube Studio stream. Before you start, clear the rights to every recording and its audio: Rockstar’s general fan-content policy does not grant blanket permission for streaming distribution, and a loop of largely unchanged VODs may face YouTube monetization review. YouTube also warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all.
Before setting up the stream, clear the content
Make a rights inventory for every VOD you plan to play. A recording can include contributions and rights beyond the channel owner’s gameplay: other players’ voices or likenesses, server assets, music, and third-party material. Confirm that you control or have permission to rebroadcast each element continuously, including for any monetization you plan to enable. Check the roleplay server’s terms as well.

YouTube puts responsibility on the live-content provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. Its live-stream terms say, “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read YouTube’s live-stream terms.

It offers a route for case-by-case licensing requests. Rockstar’s separate allowance for roleplay servers under applicable rules is not clearance to commercially rebroadcast every participant’s VOD, voice, likeness, or embedded audio. Seek permission from the relevant creators and rights holders; do not treat either policy as blanket approval.

Set up the YouTube encoder stream
- Create the live event in YouTube Studio. Create or schedule an encoder-based stream and open its stream settings. YouTube’s setup guide explains the encoder workflow: Create a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in a screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Load the recordings as a playlist or playback source. Arrange the VODs in the order you want, check that each file plays through, and make sure the encoder’s output actually reaches YouTube. The cited YouTube setup guidance describes the URL-and-key connection, but it does not prescribe a particular encoder brand, computer model, or playlist application.
- Preview, then start the outgoing feed. Check picture, audio, stream title, and event details before going live. Label the broadcast clearly as previously recorded GTA roleplay sessions; do not imply that the gameplay is happening live. Identify creators and the server where you have permission.
- Keep an operator available. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may warn you and replace the stream with a placeholder; if the material remains, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. Archived live streams can also receive Content ID claims after completion. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive and DVR limits
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all, and YouTube recommends keeping a local recording backup. For its current guidance, see YouTube’s live-stream archive help.
DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers cannot seek to a point before the live stream began. Consult YouTube’s DVR help.

One continuous stream
A single unbroken broadcast is operationally simple, but it crosses YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. Do not count on YouTube to preserve the entire broadcast as an archive, and expect that rewind may be restricted. Keep your own recording if you need a copy.
Shorter sessions with restarts
If YouTube’s automatic archive matters, plan separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and record locally as a backup. YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee seamless playback during a restart or specify exactly how viewers will experience a transition. Test the handoff and make a local archive before relying on it.

Understand the monetization risk
Eligibility to turn on monetization features does not guarantee that ads will appear. YouTube says eligible live streams may use ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships where the channel has access, but ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
Separately, YouTube’s channel monetization policy requires original, authentic content and describes reused content as material repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is covered by its “inauthentic content” policy; it said the change did not alter the reused-content policy. A playlist of substantially unchanged VODs broadcast around the clock could face monetization review. Commentary, curation, context, or meaningful editorial changes may add value, but none guarantees approval. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a business around the stream.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube receives no video: Check that the encoder is using the current stream URL and key, that the correct event is selected, and that the source is playing. If the key was exposed or changed, replace it in the encoder.
- The stream is interrupted or replaced with a placeholder: Check YouTube Studio for a warning and review the recording’s music and other third-party material. Remove or replace material you are not cleared to use; do not assume that a VOD being playable elsewhere means it is cleared for a live rebroadcast.
- The full broadcast is missing from archives: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Preserve a local recording, or schedule shorter sessions if automatic YouTube archiving is important.
- Viewers cannot rewind as expected: DVR may be limited or unavailable after 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to before the stream began. Consider shorter sessions if rewind is important to your audience.
- The channel is rejected for monetization or loses eligibility: Review YouTube’s reused and inauthentic content rules. Repeating VODs with little original contribution can be a review risk; changing presentation does not guarantee approval.
