You can run a prepared Assamese music feed from a Linux VPS by creating a YouTube Live event, sending it from an encoder such as FFmpeg over RTMPS, and keeping the VPS connected and monitored. A server that stays on does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast: YouTube must receive a steady feed, and you need permission for both the specific recordings and the underlying musical and literary works.
This guide covers the do-it-yourself setup and the checks that matter before you put a stream on a public channel.

What you need before you start
- A Linux VPS whose provider permits continuous outbound streaming and whose connection can sustain your chosen bitrate with spare capacity. Check the provider’s current acceptable-use terms, traffic limits, and sustained-upload capacity; no particular provider or VPS size is established here.
- A prepared audio playlist and a visual element you are authorized to use. A music stream still sends an audiovisual feed to YouTube.
- A YouTube channel with access to create a live event. Check live access and restrictions in the channel’s own YouTube Live controls; eligibility is account-specific.
- A software encoder, such as FFmpeg, configured to send the feed to the event’s current ingest address using its stream key.
- Rights that cover the actual sound recordings and the underlying musical and literary works, including continuous YouTube livestreaming and the relevant territories.
NIC’s 2–4 Mbps per-stream requirement applies to its own webcast-service context; it is not a YouTube bitrate recommendation or a VPS specification. Use YouTube’s encoder guidance and your VPS’s actual sustained connection capacity to choose an output.

Choose a reliable output and transport
YouTube recommends choosing settings for a reliable connection, testing with representative audio and movement, and monitoring stream health and messages during the event. YouTube also transcodes live feeds for different playback formats. These are encoder settings, not VPS plan specifications.

For a static-visual music stream, 720p30 H.264 with AAC audio is a reasonable conservative starting point, provided the VPS can sustain the selected bitrate with room for network variation. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that must not exceed four seconds. Prefer RTMPS when supported. It encrypts RTMP through an SSL connection. Google’s implementation guidance specifies a valid YouTube RTMPS endpoint and application path, port 443, and SNI using the server hostname during the TLS handshake. The guide was last updated 2026-09-14 UTC; take the actual ingest address and key from your event’s Live Control Room, rather than copying a fixed address from an old tutorial. Set up the VPS-to-YouTube workflow
- Prepare and check the feed. Arrange the authorized songs in a playlist and pair them with an authorized visual. Check that files play in the intended order and that audio levels are usable before uploading or transferring them to the VPS.
- Create the YouTube event. In the channel’s YouTube Live controls, create or select a live event and confirm the channel can go live. Use the event’s current stream URL and key. Keep the key private: do not put it in a public script repository, shared screenshot, or exposed log.
- Install an encoder on the VPS. Install FFmpeg using the package source supported by your Linux distribution, or another encoder you can maintain. This article does not prescribe a tested FFmpeg command; input format, playlist behavior, audio handling, encoder build, and RTMPS support vary by deployment. Verify the exact command and options against your installed FFmpeg version.
- Configure the output. Choose a supported codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR bitrate, audio codec, and keyframe interval. Make sure the server’s sustained outbound capacity exceeds the selected stream bitrate with margin. Configure RTMPS against the event’s current endpoint and application path, and ensure port 443 and the required TLS/SNI behavior work in your implementation.
- Protect credentials and automate carefully. Supply the stream key through a private configuration or secret mechanism, not a public command history or shared log. Use a process supervisor or retry strategy to restart an encoder that exits, but do not mistake process restarts for full-stream recovery: they cannot fix a failed VPS connection, a YouTube-side interruption, or a rights enforcement action.
- Test before going public. Start with a private or otherwise appropriate test event. Confirm YouTube receives the feed, inspect stream-health messages, and listen and watch for gaps or synchronization problems using representative audio and motion.
- Monitor the live event. Keep an operator able to review YouTube’s stream health and respond to warnings, encoder failures, network issues, or interruptions. An unattended loop is not a substitute for monitoring.
Clear music rights before streaming
Buying a song or commercial recording does not by itself grant the right to perform or communicate it publicly on a continuous YouTube livestream. IPRS distinguishes rights in the sound recording from rights in the underlying musical and literary works. Depending on the repertoire, recording permissions may come from recording owners, with PPL, Novex, and RMPL among the examples identified by IPRS; IPRS licensing relates to musical and literary works within its repertoire. One licence should not be assumed to clear every layer or every song.

Before launch, make a track list and identify the rights holders or administrators for both the recordings and the underlying works. Confirm that permissions cover continuous YouTube livestreaming, territories, duration, and monetization or archiving if applicable. Ask relevant owners to add the channel to their Content ID allowlist when required. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, placeholder, interruption, or termination; strikes can also end a live stream. Licensed content can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel, even if the stream is restricted to territories where rights are held. An archived stream may receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and arrange rights before going live.

- YouTube does not receive the feed: Check that the event is active, the current stream key and ingest address are correct, and the VPS can reach the endpoint. For RTMPS, check port 443, TLS/SNI handling, and the endpoint path against Google’s ingestion requirements.
- The feed disconnects or stream health degrades: Compare the selected bitrate with sustained VPS upload capacity, allow margin for variation, and inspect YouTube’s stream-health messages. A VPS reboot, route problem, traffic limit, or provider restriction can interrupt an otherwise running encoder.
- The encoder exits and the stream stays down: Inspect the private service logs for input-file, playlist, codec, or network errors, then verify the supervisor actually restarts the process. Restarting FFmpeg cannot resolve a YouTube event restriction or rights interruption.
- YouTube shows a copyright warning or replaces the feed: Stop and review the matched content and the permissions for that exact recording and underlying work. Contact the rights holder about the channel’s Content ID allowlisting; a purchase receipt alone is not evidence of livestream permission.
- The video or audio has gaps or sounds wrong: Test the same playlist and representative content before launch, check that the input files decode cleanly, and review encoder and stream-health messages. If needed, lower the output bitrate or resolution to a level the connection can sustain reliably.
