You can run recorded church services continuously on YouTube by sending them through an encoder to a verified channel with live streaming enabled. Plan the broadcast as successive sessions rather than one stream longer than 12 hours, keep a separate local recording, test the church’s actual upload connection, and confirm music and other content rights before going live. Whether Nepal’s broadcasting-licence rules apply to a YouTube-only church stream is not settled by the available official statute text, so ask the relevant department or a Nepal-qualified lawyer.
Choose how the recorded services will reach YouTube
There are two practical approaches: run an encoder on a computer at the church, or upload the recordings to a cloud service that sends them to YouTube. The encoder method gives the church direct control over its playback setup, but depends on the computer, power, and internet connection staying available. The cloud approach avoids keeping a home or church computer running. In either case, YouTube receives a live feed; the recordings themselves remain the source material.

What you need for the encoder method
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled, and has no active live-streaming restriction. YouTube’s current guidance sets a minimum age of 16 for streaming. Check YouTube live streaming tips for eligibility details.
- A computer and encoder software capable of playing the recorded services and sending the live feed. An encoder workflow can accommodate overlays and external audio/video hardware, but extra production equipment is not required just to stream existing files.
- A stable internet connection with enough outbound upload capacity for the configured stream bitrate, plus headroom for any backup stream.
- Separate storage for a local recording. A separate external drive can provide another copy; choose capacity based on the recording bitrate and how long the church intends to retain recordings.
- Permission to stream every song, recording, image, excerpt, and other third-party element in the program.
Set up the YouTube encoder stream
- Verify the channel and check live access. Sign in to YouTube, open YouTube Studio, and confirm that live streaming is available for the channel before preparing the schedule. Resolve any restriction or eligibility issue first.
- Create the live event. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose the encoder workflow rather than a webcam workflow. YouTube’s instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. Use the server URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it casually, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Load the recorded service or playlist. Set the encoder to play the intended recordings in the correct order. Check that the audio is audible and synchronized, the picture is framed correctly, and transitions do not reveal unintended material.
- Start with a private or unlisted test. Start the encoder, wait for YouTube’s preview, and confirm that the image and sound arrive correctly on the watch page. Test playback on a phone as well as the streaming computer.
- Begin the public schedule and monitor it. Watch for encoder errors, dropped connection warnings, frozen video, and audio problems. YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and testing the full setup before a public event; see YouTube streaming tips.
Upload bandwidth and resilience
Measure upload performance at the church at the times the stream will run; a download-speed result does not establish upload capacity. YouTube recommends approximately 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the combined bitrate of the primary and backup streams. For example, if the configured primary and backup feeds together use 10 Mbps, aim for about 12 Mbps of available upload capacity. The actual connection should also be stable, not merely fast in a brief test.

Plan continuous streaming as successive sessions
Do not rely on YouTube to preserve one uninterrupted stream that runs indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. It recommends a separate local archive. See Archive live streams.
For a 24/7 channel, schedule successive sessions and coordinate handoffs so the next session begins after the prior one ends. Keeping each session under 12 hours is an operational way to stay within YouTube’s stated archive guidance, not a guarantee that every archive will succeed. Maintain the separate local recording and a practical backup and retention routine. If an uninterrupted viewer experience matters, rehearse the transition between sessions and monitor it during the actual handoff.

Clear worship music and other rights before going live
The church is responsible for holding the rights needed for live and archived material, including applicable music rights, and for complying with law in the territory where it streams. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions place those obligations on the content provider. Filming a service or owning the video file does not automatically grant rights to every song, backing track, lyric display, guest speaker excerpt, or video contained in it.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace a live feed with a placeholder, and continued transmission can lead to interruption or termination. If the church has licensed music, the rights holder may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID for the live stream not to be interrupted. A recording can also receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends. Review Copyright issues with live streams and keep documentation of the permissions that apply to each recording.

Do not assume repeated recordings will be monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization under that policy. This does not establish that every repeated sermon stream violates the policy, but a channel built from loops should not assume it qualifies for monetization. Keep the channel presentation and editorial context authentic, and check the current YouTube channel monetization policies before making any revenue plans.
Check Nepal’s licensing position locally
The Nepal Law Commission’s official repository contains the National Broadcasting Act, 2049 (1992/93). Its text includes language prohibiting programme broadcasting without a licence and discusses applications for broadcasting within Nepal by satellite, cable, or other communications media. The text does not answer whether a church-run YouTube-only stream counts as broadcasting under the Act, whether regulations change that result, or whether a separate rule applies to religious organizations.

Before treating the stream as either licensed or exempt, describe the exact service to Nepal’s Department of Information and Broadcasting or a Nepal-qualified legal adviser: a church-run YouTube channel that continuously streams prerecorded worship services.
