To run a 24/7 YouTube reggae instrumental stream, clear the music and visual rights for continuous live use, prepare a feed, send it through an encoder to YouTube Live, and plan for interruptions and recordings. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and key from Live Control Room; an encoder sends the feed while you monitor stream health. A first live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available.
1. Clear rights for the music and visuals
Use music and images you created yourself or have licensed for the specific uses you plan. The license must cover live streaming and, if you intend to keep a replay, the archived version and relevant territories. A license for an ordinary video should not be assumed to cover continuous live broadcasting.

YouTube’s Live Stream Terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Read the YouTube Live Stream Terms and confirm the scope of each license before you broadcast.

If you have permission to use third-party music, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent an automated interruption.

2. Build the reggae radio feed
Prepare audio and visuals
Assemble the instrumental tracks in the intended playback order and pair them with a visual you are entitled to broadcast. You can use a pre-rendered mix or playlist as the encoder’s input, or configure playback software to feed the encoder continuously. YouTube’s general encoder guidance does not prescribe a reggae-specific playlist or automation system, so choose a setup that can play your material reliably and recover after an interruption.
Choose an encoder approach
An encoder can run on a computer you operate, on suitable hardware, or as part of a hosted service. Compare options by where they run, whether they can resume after a connection loss, what playlist and overlay controls they provide, whether they support local recording, and the ongoing cost of power and internet versus a hosted fee. YouTube’s encoder guide lists software and hardware options and identifies CamStreamer App as supporting continuous streams. YouTube cautions that verified encoders are not made by YouTube; the listing is a place to find candidates, not an endorsement or proof of suitability.
3. Create the YouTube Live broadcast and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one from Manage, then set its title, visibility and other broadcast details.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and replace it if it is exposed.
- Start the encoder so it sends the audio and video feed. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before directing viewers to the broadcast.
- If you scheduled the broadcast, check Live Control Room for a separate Go live action; starting the encoder may not itself publish the scheduled stream.
For a first-time broadcaster, allow for YouTube’s stated activation delay of up to 24 hours. Set up and test before the time you want the radio stream to begin.

4. Set a stable stream quality
Pick a resolution and video bitrate that your encoder supports and your measured upload connection can sustain continuously. Do not choose a high setting just because it is available. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing the full setup with audio and motion similar to the intended broadcast.
| Setting | YouTube guidance | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Rate control | CBR | Use constant bitrate where supported by the encoder. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; no more than 4 seconds | Set this in the encoder’s video output settings. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | Choose a supported codec in the encoder. |
| Stereo sample rate | 44.1 kHz | Use this sample rate for stereo audio. |
| Stereo audio bitrate | 128 Kbps | Use this audio bitrate for stereo audio. |
| Resolution and video bitrate | Follow encoder guidance and reliable measured upload capacity | Test the complete feed; there is no single bitrate appropriate for every connection and resolution. |
These technical recommendations are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance; the page does not state a publication year in the material available here. A successful short test is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service, so monitor stream health once live.
5. Keep the stream running overnight and recover from interruptions
A continuous stream depends on every part of the feed remaining available: playback, encoder, power and internet connection if you run it locally. Decide how you will notice a failure and restart or recover the broadcast. If using a hosted encoder, check its restart behavior and alerting rather than assuming those functions are included.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or terminate it if third-party material remains or a strike applies. If an interruption occurs, check Live Control Room for stream health and any rights notice, then address the underlying connection, encoder or rights issue before resuming.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems6. Record and manage the archive
YouTube can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single indefinite broadcast is not a reliable way to produce a complete replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. Use recording software or an encoder with local recording, and make sure the storage destination has room for the expected duration and quality. An external SSD or other suitable storage is optional; the required capacity depends on recording settings and duration.
For a channel that must remain live continuously, plan for recording and stream rotation or restart behavior rather than relying on one VOD. YouTube’s live stream archiving guidance says: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.”

7. Understand copyright and monetization separately
Creator Music does not license a live radio stream
YouTube says tracks offered through Creator Music licensing or revenue sharing may be used only in long-form videos, not live streams or Shorts. It is not a workaround for a live reggae radio broadcast. Verify that every track’s actual license covers both the live stream and any archive.
Rights permission does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement. Permission to use music does not by itself establish eligibility for monetization. YouTube assesses the channel as a whole for original, authentic value; highly repetitive, mass-produced or interchangeable material may be ineligible. A stream that repeatedly uses the same playlist and visual with little variation or original context may therefore face monetization limits.
Live-stream monetization is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program, subject to eligibility and policy compliance in the channel. YPP status does not remove music-rights responsibilities or guarantee ads in every viewer session.
