Build a looping radio scene in OBS
Prepare the audio and visual
Install OBS Studio for Windows from the OBS Project. Create a scene with a static image or simple schedule/title card and an audio source. OBS Media Source supports common media formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, WAV and MP4. For one recording, add a Media Source and enable Loop. Keep the file available on the PC for the full broadcast.
For a rotation of tracks, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed, and its architecture must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The OBS Media Sources guide documents these source options.

Use audio you are allowed to broadcast
Use music or other audio you own or have explicit permission to livestream. A consumer music subscription should not be assumed to grant rebroadcast rights. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party material; a match can replace the image, interrupt the stream or terminate it. Even licensed material may be interrupted unless the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance.
For a stream in India, the Copyright Act’s definition of “communication to the public” includes making works available by display or diffusion. That is relevant background, not a determination of what licences your particular stream requires. Check permissions for both the live broadcast and any recording or archive with the relevant rights holders or a qualified adviser: Copyright Act, Chapter I.

Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule the broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password; do not publish or share it.
- In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the server URL and stream key. Select the YouTube-recommended RTMPS transport option where available.
- Start streaming in OBS. Check that the preview appears in Live Control Room, review stream health, and start the YouTube event as prompted by the selected workflow.

Choose OBS settings for your connection
YouTube recommends matching stream quality to the upload connection, testing capacity and monitoring stream health. Its current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. RTMPS is the encrypted transport option. For a simple radio image, a high frame rate is usually unnecessary; choose a stable resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain.

These H.264 bitrate figures are YouTube’s ingestion recommendations, not broadband-plan requirements. The minimum listed figures are also from YouTube’s table.

Choose a target bitrate with headroom below your measured, stable upload capacity, then test at that setting. YouTube’s figures are in its encoder settings guide. India’s NIC says its hired-agency webcast setup needs 2–4 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth per stream; that guidance is specific to the NIC service context, not a YouTube setting or a universal home-internet requirement (NIC Webcast Services).

Keep the Windows broadcast running
- Adjust Windows power settings so the PC does not sleep during the broadcast.
- Keep the audio and visual files on accessible local storage and avoid a workflow that depends on a temporary browser session or interactive prompt.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection when practical. It is an operational choice, not a YouTube requirement.
- Consider a UPS sized for the PC and router if brief power interruptions are a concern. No single capacity or runtime suits every setup.
- Monitor audio, video and stream health, and test the recovery process before relying on the broadcast. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring and checking local archive file growth.
OBS offers automatic reconnect, but it cannot keep a stream going through every power, internet or software failure. OBS says dropped frames mean the network is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate; reduce bitrate and investigate the network path. Understand the 12-hour archive boundary
YouTube states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” It does not promise a complete archive for one stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so do not rely on a single 24-hour broadcast being archived in full. If keeping a complete recording matters, consider separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and/or make a local recording; confirm archive behavior on your channel before depending on it.
