A single video can loop up to 10 times, for a maximum 40-hour event, while a playlist can run up to 24 hours and does not loop as a unit. You can set up scheduled events with the steps below; if you need a channel that keeps playing beyond those limits, treat a chain of events as an unverified workaround and test the handoffs on your channel.
What Restream can—and cannot—do for a 24/7 stream
Restream’s pre-recorded event feature lets you schedule a video to air automatically, so you do not have to be online to start that event. Its help page says, “You don’t need to do anything – your event will automatically air at the scheduled time.” Restream’s scheduling guide documents automatic starts, not an endlessly repeating broadcast.

These limits mean neither format, as documented, guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 channel. Scheduling a series of events may extend the time you are live, but Restream does not promise gapless transitions. Test the actual handoff on your YouTube channel before relying on it for continuous operation.

Enable YouTube live streaming
Connect the YouTube channel in Restream by authorizing the account that owns the channel. Live streaming must be enabled on YouTube. If this is the channel’s first live stream, Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait before the first stream can start. Allow for that lead time before scheduling. See Restream’s YouTube setup guide.

Check the file format and encoding
Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements specify these formats and settings:
- Container: MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV.
- Video codec: H.264.
- Audio codec: AAC.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds.
Restream recommends 1080p, 30 or 60 FPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and 15–20 seconds of padding at the beginning and end. Bitrate is not one-size-fits-all: set it for the target resolution and frame rate using the platform’s current guidance. Restream’s YouTube guide lists H.264, 240p–2160p, up to 60 FPS, CBR, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval (4 seconds maximum); its bitrate range is 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate. Check the current YouTube guidance before encoding, since platform recommendations can change. Full file requirements are in Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements.

Schedule a pre-recorded event in Restream
- Open the pre-recorded workflow. In Restream, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video for one recording or Playlist for a sequence. Restream also documents uploading and streaming recordings through its Upload & Stream feature.
- Select or upload your media. Confirm the file meets the format and encoding requirements above. For a playlist, arrange the videos in the order you want them to play.
- Enter event details. Add the event title, description, date, and start time. Enable YouTube as the destination. During event setup, YouTube privacy and category can be adjusted in the channel settings; see Restream’s YouTube Live Event guide.
- Choose a duration that fits the format. For one video, decide whether the paid looping option’s 10-loop and 40-hour ceiling fits the event. For a playlist, plan for a single run of up to 24 hours; a playlist itself cannot loop.
- Create the event and verify it. Check the scheduled event in Restream and confirm its YouTube announcement before sharing the link. Restream says scheduled pre-recorded events air automatically at the selected time. Monitor the live event and chat if your audience needs active moderation.
Plan for copyright, archives, and longer schedules
Use media you have the right to stream
Scheduling a recording does not grant permission to use its video, music, or other material. Use content you own or are authorized to broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright rules before going live. Restream’s event documentation does not establish that a pre-recorded format avoids YouTube’s copyright or monetization policies.

Do not confuse YouTube duration with archiving
Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube has no stream-duration limit, but also says YouTube archives streams shorter than 12 hours. These are separate claims: a platform’s duration allowance does not mean every long stream will be saved as a replay. Check current YouTube behavior if an archive is important to your workflow.

Extending beyond one event
You can schedule additional events as a possible workaround for a longer presence, but the cited Restream documentation does not guarantee that one event will hand off to the next without an interruption. Test the sequence—including the end of one event, the start of the next, and the viewer-facing YouTube page—before promising continuous playback. Restream also says pre-recorded events do not support channel pairing, a limitation distinct from Studio or encoder-based streaming.

Restream says free users have Restream branding on the event thumbnail. Its documentation also distinguishes pre-recorded events from channel pairing and other streaming workflows. Review the current event scheduling page for the latest plan and feature details.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
- The event does not start on the first day you schedule it: YouTube live streaming may not yet be enabled. For a first-time live stream, complete phone verification and allow the 24-hour activation period described in Restream’s YouTube guide.
- Restream rejects or cannot play the file: Check that the container is MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV; the video is H.264; audio is AAC; and the keyframe interval is 2 seconds. Re-export a compliant file if needed.
- The stream ends sooner than expected: Check whether a single-video loop reached its 10-loop or 40-hour maximum, or whether a playlist reached its 24-hour run limit. Neither mode is perpetual.
- A scheduled follow-on event leaves a gap: The documentation does not guarantee seamless event handoffs. Re-test your schedule on the actual channel and do not treat a sequence as continuous until you have confirmed its behavior.
- The YouTube replay is missing: Restream’s guide says YouTube archives streams shorter than 12 hours. Do not assume a longer event will be archived; check the current YouTube archive behavior and save a separate copy of the source file.
