You can run a 24/7 YouTube Live stream from an Amazon EC2 Linux server: configure an encoder to send video to the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room, then keep the encoder process supervised and monitored. The exact setup depends on whether you are looping a prerecorded video, encoding a live feed, or generating a scene; there is no single EC2 size or FFmpeg command that fits every source.
Choose the right kind of 24/7 stream
First decide what the server must do. A prerecorded video loop mainly needs access to the media and enough capacity to send the encoded stream. A live camera or other real-time feed adds capture and timing requirements; transcoding adds CPU demand. If an already-encoded file can be sent without re-encoding, workload requirements differ from converting video to another resolution or codec.

- Prerecorded loop: choose how the file will be stored and repeated, and verify that your encoder can read it continuously.
- Live capture: identify how the live source reaches the server; EC2 is not itself a camera.
- Transcoding or generated graphics: test the actual encoder settings on the chosen instance rather than assuming a minimum instance size.
Only rebroadcast material you have rights to use. YouTube’s live-stream setup does not grant rights to music, video, or other content.

Set up an EC2 server
- Choose a region and instance. Select a Linux EC2 instance based on the source, whether encoding is required, target resolution and frame rate, memory, storage, and sustained network capacity. Instance type determines compute, memory, network, and storage resources. Mumbai appears in AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS with S3 regional list, but that does not establish that every instance type or related service is available there for your architecture. Verify current availability and pricing for the specific deployment.
- Launch and secure it. Use a supported Linux image and configure persistent storage if your media or logs need to remain on the server. Connect through a controlled method. In the security group, restrict SSH to a trusted source IP where practical. A server sending an outbound stream ordinarily does not need an inbound RTMP port open; security groups control instance network traffic. See AWS security groups.
- Install an encoder and prepare the source. Install and configure software such as FFmpeg for your specific input. The correct command depends on whether the source is a file, capture device, generated scene, or feed being transcoded, so do not copy a generic command without checking its input, codec, and looping behavior. Make sure the server can read the media for the full run.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in screenshots, store it in a public repository, or expose it in world-readable command history. YouTube explains how to set up a live stream with an encoder.
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test. Start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, and check audio, video, and stream health before using the control room’s go-live flow. YouTube Help says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
Use YouTube-compatible encoder settings
For ordinary SDR H.264, YouTube recommends CBR, RTMPS, and AAC or MP3 audio. Set the keyframe interval to two seconds; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. The following H.264 bitrate figures are YouTube’s current encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026. They are platform recommendations, not measurements of what a particular EC2 instance can sustain.

These figures cover the listed video modes; allow additional network capacity for audio and protocol overhead. YouTube advises leaving bandwidth headroom, with 20% recommended, and testing the actual upload path. AWS cautions that network capacity depends on instance type and path: an “up to” rate is not a promise of continuous throughput, and smaller instances may only burst above baseline temporarily. If the source, encoder, or sustained connection cannot reliably support the selected mode, reduce resolution or frame rate and test again. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and live streaming tips.
Keep the encoder running and recover from failures
A 24/7 broadcast needs more than starting FFmpeg once. Run the encoder under a process supervisor configured to restart it after a process exit, retain logs, and alert you to failures. Monitor the EC2 instance as well as encoder errors and stream health in Live Control Room. This is operational guidance, not a guarantee that a specific service definition or reconnect setting will prevent interruptions.

- Test restart behavior by stopping the encoder and checking that it comes back and reconnects as intended.
- After a server reboot, confirm that the source is available, the encoder starts, and the preview returns.
- After rotating or resetting the YouTube stream key, update the encoder’s secret configuration and verify the stream again.
- For business-critical continuity, plan and test redundancy and monitoring beyond one EC2 instance; a single server or network route can fail.
If a stream key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. YouTube documents encoder setup and stream-key management.
What streaming 24/7 from India costs
EC2 On-Demand billing is based on instance running time, with a 60-second minimum, and a server kept running around the clock continues to incur running-time charges. The monthly total is not one fixed India price: it depends on region, instance, storage, public IPv4 or other applicable network charges, outbound data transfer, and any supporting services. Check current Amazon EC2 pricing or the AWS pricing calculator using your actual configuration. Do not treat a regional example for a different AWS solution as the price of this setup.

Before committing, test the intended source and encoder on the instance you plan to use. Measure CPU and memory under the actual resolution and frame rate, confirm sustained outbound throughput, and include the media-storage and transfer pattern in your estimate. AWS’s EC2 network bandwidth guidance describes why instance capacity and burst behavior matter.
Plan separately for YouTube archives
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be archived as a complete video. If you need an archive of a 24/7 broadcast, verify YouTube’s current behavior and decide how you will preserve or divide the content; the cited guidance does not certify a particular segmentation workflow.

Troubleshooting common failures
