Yes—a Raspberry Pi can host an encoder that sends a continuous Marathi-music programme to YouTube Live, but it is not a plug-and-play guarantee of 24/7 operation. You need a YouTube-eligible channel, permission to stream every recording and composition, an encoder workload the Pi can sustain, stable upload and power, and a plan for recovery. The steps below explain how to build and test a do-it-yourself setup without assuming that any particular Pi configuration has been proven for uninterrupted streaming.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming.
- A Raspberry Pi and power, cooling and storage appropriate to an always-on workload. Pi 5 is one candidate, not a demonstrated 24/7 solution.
- Marathi recordings and compositions whose rights explicitly cover your intended YouTube live use.
- A wired or wireless internet connection with measured, stable upload capacity above the full stream bitrate.
- An encoder that can send a supported feed to YouTube using RTMP or, preferably where supported, RTMPS.
1. Enable live streaming and create a test stream
YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned start. Check the current eligibility details in YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule a live event. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow.
- Choose the stream’s visibility and other settings for your test. A private or unlisted test lets you inspect the feed before promoting a public stream.
- Copy the stream key into the encoder’s credential field. Treat it like a password: do not publish it in scripts, screenshots, source control or this article. Anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to your stream. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
2. Clear the Marathi music rights first
Having a song file, buying a track, or being able to play it on a music service does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it as a YouTube live stream. YouTube’s terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for the Live Content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Read the livestream terms and conditions and obtain permission for the particular recordings and compositions you plan to use.

3. Choose a Pi and decide what it must encode
Raspberry Pi 5 specifications include a 2.4GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, microSD storage, RAM configurations through 16GB, and 4Kp60 HEVC decoding. Those specifications do not establish that a particular Pi will encode your chosen live output continuously. Raspberry Pi’s camera documentation describes software video encoding in rpicam-vid workflows; that is not proof of sustained performance for an FFmpeg audio playlist or visualizer. Match the workload to the visual
- Static image or simple background: the visual changes little, but the encoder still has to produce a video stream. Measure CPU load at the resolution and frame rate you intend to use.
- Visualizer or animated artwork: motion and effects add work. Test with representative audio and visuals rather than extrapolating from an idle desktop or a static test frame.
- Higher resolution or frame rate: increases the encoding and network workload. Start with a modest target, then test any increase instead of assuming that a decoding specification guarantees encoding capacity.
Storage, power and cooling
Use storage with enough room for the rights-cleared media and any logs or working files your software needs. Keep power and cooling suitable for an always-on device, and avoid relying on an arrangement you have not monitored under sustained load. Raspberry Pi’s product page establishes specifications, not current availability or a current local price; check a local seller if you need to buy hardware.

4. Set YouTube-compatible encoder and network targets
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS transport, H.264, H.265 and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and sets four seconds as the maximum. It recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP, where your encoder supports it. Check the current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions before configuring software.

The listed 480p recommendation is higher than the 720p figure; use the table as published rather than assuming bitrate must rise with resolution. These are YouTube recommendations, not a specific preset for music streams. YouTube also recommends about 20% upload headroom above the total stream bitrate. Measure upload speed when the network is under realistic conditions. Include audio and any other outbound traffic in the total, then allow the recommended headroom; a speed-test peak is not evidence of a stable connection. Prefer wired Gigabit Ethernet when practical, and test Wi-Fi if that is what you will use. YouTube transcodes incoming video for viewers, so the encoder’s outgoing stream is not the only resolution viewers may receive.
5. Run a representative test before going public
- Load only media you have permission to stream and select the visual workload you plan to use.
- Set the encoder to a supported codec and audio format, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the selected resolution, frame rate and bitrate. Select RTMPS if supported.
- Start a private or unlisted test from the Pi and inspect the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health.
- Listen for gaps, clipping or sync problems, and watch CPU use, temperature, storage and network stability while the feed runs.
- Test reconnect behavior by safely simulating an encoder restart and checking what viewers see. Do not infer that recovery from one test guarantees recovery from a power, internet or YouTube-side failure.
YouTube recommends testing, previewing and monitoring streams. Its live-streaming tips are a useful checklist. No official source cited here establishes a benchmark for uninterrupted 24/7 streaming on a particular Raspberry Pi configuration.

6. Plan for failures and recovery
A process supervisor or service manager can be configured to restart an encoder process that exits, but that is general system-administration practice, not a YouTube guarantee. Configure and test restart behavior before depending on it. A local restart will not fix a failed router, power outage, damaged storage, exhausted rights permission or a YouTube-side interruption. Decide how you will detect a dead feed and who will respond; monitor both the Pi and YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming that a process being present means viewers are receiving audio.
- Protect the stream key and rotate it if it is exposed.
- Keep backups of the rights-cleared playlist and configuration without storing the key in public locations.
- Check audio continuity, available storage, temperatures and upload stability during operation.
- Know how you will restore the stream after a Pi reboot or network outage, and test that procedure.
