- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and access confirmed in YouTube Studio.
- A recording you have permission to stream, plus permission for any artwork or other visual material.
- A streaming method: YouTube’s mobile or webcam options, an encoder for a prepared audio/video feed, or a cloud service that loops an uploaded video.
- A plan to monitor the broadcast and recover from a dropped feed, encoder problem, network outage, or rights interruption.

Use an encoder you operate
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. An encoder is a sensible choice for a prepared devotional audio/video feed because it offers more customization and control than a simple mobile or webcam stream. The cited guidance does not require a particular encoder brand, paid software, or dedicated hardware. For a feed sent from your own computer, the computer, encoder, and network must remain available while you are broadcasting; plan for outages and manual recovery.

Set up the YouTube broadcast with an encoder
- Enable and verify live access. Enable live streaming ahead of the planned start and confirm in YouTube Studio that the channel can currently go live. For a first broadcast, YouTube for Artists recommends enabling it at least 24 hours in advance.
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio. Open the live-stream creation workflow, enter the broadcast details, and choose the visibility and schedule you intend. Use Studio’s stream details to connect your encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the stream key and other connection details from Studio into the encoder. A stream key works like a password for the feed: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Studio before continuing.
- Apply YouTube’s current encoder guidance. YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes supported codecs and video, audio, bitrate, and keyframe settings. Use the current values on YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page; settings can change, so do not rely on a copied configuration that may be stale.
- Send a test feed and inspect Studio. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test before a high-production or high-investment stream. Confirm that the recitation is clear, the visual is appropriate, the selected stream details are correct, and Studio reports a healthy incoming feed. A successful test checks the setup at that moment; it cannot guarantee continuous uptime.
- Start the public broadcast and monitor it. Start the encoder only when the feed and schedule are ready. Keep an eye on Studio and have a person or recovery plan available to respond if the encoder, internet connection, or YouTube feed stops.

Clear rights for the recording and visuals
A sacred text or devotional subject does not make a particular recording free to use. Rights may separately apply to the recording, performance, musical arrangement, artwork, and any other included material. Obtain permission for the exact recording and intended live use, and keep written documentation. If the material is licensed, ask the rights holder whether it needs to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music.

YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. A match can trigger a placeholder, a warning, temporary interruption, or termination. A licensed recording may still be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. An archived broadcast can also receive a claim after it ends, so decide whether to retain an archive and check its status afterward. Details are in YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Make a 24/7 schedule operationally realistic
“24/7” is an operating goal, not a YouTube uptime guarantee. The official setup guidance covers encoder workflows and configuration; it does not guarantee an indefinitely continuous broadcast or prescribe a specific approved loop architecture. For a self-operated encoder, decide who will notice a failure and restart the feed, and what to do if the local computer or network becomes unavailable. With any method, monitor the broadcast and account for copyright interruptions as well as technical ones.
