To run thunderstorm sounds continuously on YouTube, prepare an original or properly licensed storm recording, create a YouTube live broadcast, and send a continuous feed to it through an encoder. A 24/7 stream also needs a reliable operating setup and active monitoring: YouTube can interrupt a live feed when it detects third-party content, and a loop by itself is no guarantee of monetization.
Before you start: audio rights and channel access
Confirm you can go live
Enable live streaming and verify your YouTube account before the planned launch. YouTube for Artists advises first-time streamers to allow at least 24 hours for live streaming to become available, and recommends testing with an unlisted stream before going public. Its guidance is written for music channels, but the setup advice applies to this live workflow too. YouTube for Artists: Going Live on YouTube.
Use audio you have permission to broadcast
The safest source is a storm recording you made yourself, or audio whose license explicitly permits continuous live transmission, archived playback, and monetization if you intend to monetize. Keep a copy of the license and note its limits. A library track that permits ordinary video use may not necessarily permit a continuous live stream or monetized replays.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace your broadcast with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate it. Even if you have permission, a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the stream to proceed without interruption. A license alone does not guarantee that outcome; an archived broadcast can also receive a claim after the live session. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Set up a continuous thunderstorm broadcast
1. Prepare the recording and presentation
Choose a storm recording that can loop without an abrupt change in sound. Listen to the transition between the end and beginning, and check for clicks, silence, sudden volume changes, or a thunderclap that becomes jarring when repeated. If you use visuals, confirm that you have rights to those too. A static or gently changing image can accompany an audio-led stream, but the broadcast still needs a valid live video feed if you choose an encoder configuration that sends video.
Decide what viewers should see in the title, description, and thumbnail. Describe the audio accurately—for example, whether it is a field recording, designed sound, or a mix—and avoid implying that simulated storm sounds are a live weather report.
2. Create the YouTube live broadcast

Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast and enter its title, description, visibility, and other metadata.

Choose an encoder-based stream workflow. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents ingestion details such as the address, stream name, protocol, resolution, and frame rate. Follow the settings shown for the broadcast and encoder rather than guessing or copying settings from a different resolution or workflow.

Copy the stream key or stream name shown in YouTube’s live setup and enter it in your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

Connect the encoder, start the feed, and check the preview and stream-health status in the Live Control Room before making the broadcast public. YouTube’s API documents stream status and health fields as well as ingestion settings; use the available health information to identify configuration issues such as missing audio or mismatched settings. 3. Make the feed continuous
Your encoder must keep supplying the live feed and repeat the storm audio for as long as you want the broadcast to run. Configure the source or playback system to loop the recording, and verify that the loop remains audible over several transitions. The encoder is the component that sends the feed to YouTube; it does not, by itself, guarantee that a source will restart after a failure or that a disconnected broadcast will resume automatically.
Keep the encoder and audio source running, watch the YouTube stream-health indicators, and have a way to check the stream if the feed drops. The official setup material describes ingestion and health fields, but does not establish one universal 24/7 automation method, minimum computer specification, upload-speed threshold, or redundancy plan. Those depend on the encoder configuration and local network. Do not treat a particular computer or internet speed as a YouTube requirement unless it is specified for your chosen stream settings.
4. Test before announcing the stream
Run an unlisted end-to-end test long enough to verify that the storm audio continues, the loop transition is acceptable, the encoder remains connected, and the broadcast is using the intended metadata and stream settings. Check playback from another device as well as the encoder preview. Correct audio, connection, or configuration problems before switching to a public broadcast.

Plan for interruptions and copyright checks
A 24/7 broadcast is not just a looping file: the live feed has to reach YouTube continuously, and a copyright match can interrupt it regardless of whether the encoder is otherwise healthy. If the picture or sound disappears, check the encoder connection and YouTube’s stream-health information. If YouTube replaces the stream with a placeholder or terminates it, investigate the copyright notice and the rights attached to the matched material; repeatedly restarting without resolving the rights issue may not help.
If you have a license, retain it and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting for your channel where appropriate. Check archived broadcasts for claims after the live session as well. Do not assume that permission to use a recording in one context covers continuous live transmission, VOD retention, or monetization.
Can a thunderstorm loop earn money?
YouTube lists ads, Supers, and shopping among live-stream monetization routes, subject to the channel meeting the applicable eligibility requirements and feature availability. These options do not guarantee qualification or earnings. See YouTube for Artists’ live-stream guidance.

YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and expects content to be original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic, or repetitive. A minimally altered audio loop should not be assumed to pass monetization review. Original field recordings, distinctive sound design, or a genuinely useful viewer experience can help establish what is original about a channel, but no particular approach guarantees approval. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies before building a business plan around the stream.
