Before you start: check channel access and prepare your recordings
Enable livestreaming in advance
YouTube requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions within the previous 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you plan to launch. Check the current eligibility and controls in YouTube Studio, since labels and requirements can change.

Choose footage and audio you have rights to use
Decide what the stream will show: for example, a Tamil-language study session, a quiet desk view, or recorded study intervals with breaks. Plan the order of the recordings and whether viewers will hear room sound, silence, or music. Use only footage and audio you have the necessary rights to broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for those rights, including music licensing rights, on the creator.
Keep the original files locally. Besides giving you a backup if an upload or stream goes wrong, that lets you make a separate recording for replay rather than relying on YouTube to archive a continuous broadcast.

Create the YouTube livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a livestream or schedule one. If this is your channel’s first livestream, allow time for activation before setting a launch time.
- Set up the stream details. Add a clear title and description explaining that the stream uses prerecorded footage. Choose the audience and visibility settings that fit your channel, and check the scheduled start time if you are scheduling.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube lets you reuse stream settings; the URL and key are what connect an encoder such as OBS to the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not post it, show it on stream, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Keep Live Control Room open for the preview. You will use it to check that YouTube is receiving video and audio before you make the stream public or start the scheduled broadcast.
Loop recorded video in OBS Studio
Use a Media Source for one recording
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene you want to use for the stream. If you do not have one, create a scene for your study footage.
- Add a source: in the Sources panel, select +, then Media Source. Give it a recognizable name and confirm.
- Select the local video file in the Media Source properties. Enable Loop so OBS starts the recording again after it reaches the end. Confirm that the video appears in the OBS preview and fits the canvas as intended.
- Check the audio meters while the video plays. If the recording includes audio, make sure the intended sound is present and at a suitable level; if it is meant to be silent, confirm that no unintended audio source is active.
Use a playlist for multiple recordings
OBS also provides a VLC Video source for playlists. VLC must be installed, and OBS’s playlist loop is on by default. Add the files in the order you want them played, then preview the playlist to check that it advances and returns to the beginning as expected. A playlist is useful when you want the broadcast to alternate between study sessions rather than replaying one file from its first frame every cycle.
Connect OBS to YouTube and start with a test
- Open OBS Settings and go to Stream. Select YouTube as the service, then use the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. If you are using a custom server option, enter the URL and key in the corresponding fields.
- Start a test stream. In OBS, start streaming and check the Live Control Room preview before inviting viewers or relying on the scheduled start.
- Verify the viewer experience. Check the watch page on your channel and on a mobile device. Confirm the picture, audio, title, and visibility are as expected.
- Monitor the broadcast. Watch the OBS preview and YouTube’s stream status. If you are recording locally as well, confirm that the archive file is being written and growing.
Do not guess at encoder settings
The correct resolution, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval depend on the source footage, connection, and YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Use YouTube’s current settings recommendations for the chosen stream quality rather than copying values from an unrelated setup. Keep the stream output compatible with your recording; do not upscale low-resolution footage merely to select a higher output resolution. Test the exact OBS scene and output before going live.

Computer specifications, service reliability, and the cost of running a local computer depend on the individual setup; there is no universal hardware minimum established here. For a local stream, you may already have a computer that can run OBS, but it must remain powered on, connected, and able to play the source files throughout the broadcast.
Plan for YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume a single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete replay. If viewers need a dependable recording, schedule shorter sessions and record a local copy. Check that the local recording is being saved before leaving the setup unattended.

Copyright, policy, and monetization risks
Live copyright matching can interrupt the stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. Even if you have licensed third-party material, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve the rights and any required allowlisting before you go live.
Do not assume prerecorded footage will qualify for monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams and include rules about reused content and what YouTube calls “inauthentic” content. Whether a particular channel’s recordings meet those policies depends on the content and channel review. A continuous stream, Tamil-language subject matter, or a playlist format does not by itself guarantee monetization.

Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a livestream: Check that the channel is verified, that it has no live-streaming restrictions within the previous 90 days, and that activation has completed. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no video: Confirm OBS is streaming to the right service and that the current stream URL and key match the Live Control Room stream. Check that the intended scene is active and the Media Source is visible in the OBS preview.
- The video stops at the end: For a single Media Source, open its properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, confirm the VLC Video source is installed and its playlist is set up correctly; VLC must be installed for that OBS source.
- The stream is silent or has unwanted sound: Check that the recording has the audio you expect and watch OBS’s audio meters while it plays. Review active audio sources and mute or remove anything unintended.
- YouTube shows a copyright warning or replaces the feed: Stop and identify the matched content. Confirm that you have broadcast rights and, where applicable, that the rights owner has allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Do not assume a purchased or obtained license automatically prevents a live match.
- The stream has no complete replay: A continuous stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Use shorter scheduled sessions and make a local recording when a dependable replay matters.
- The broadcast becomes unavailable when you leave: A local OBS stream depends on the host computer, OBS, files, and network remaining available. Check power and connectivity, or use a cloud service if you do not want the stream hosted by a computer at home.
