YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, so plan for stream sessions to end and restart, monitor the encoder and Live Control Room, and arrange recovery from failures. Before you start, confirm your channel is eligible and that you have the necessary rights to stream and archive every recording.
1. Get the channel and music ready
Enable live streaming ahead of launch
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. In YouTube Studio, check the channel’s current eligibility and restrictions, then enable live streaming and wait for activation to complete.

Clear rights for recordings and compositions
“Tamil,” “devotional” and “traditional” do not by themselves mean a song or recording is free to use. Confirm permission for both the sound recording and the underlying composition. The permission should cover YouTube live streaming and, if you intend to keep the archive, that use too. For copyrighted music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor.
YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If YouTube detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, issue a warning, interrupt or terminate the stream, or apply a strike depending on the circumstances. Even if you have a licence, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist: YouTube says a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. An archived live stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends.

2. Create the YouTube stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream. Use the Live Control Room to obtain the current stream URL and stream key for that broadcast.
- Configure FFmpeg with the current ingest details. Enter the URL and key in the encoder’s destination settings, or combine them in the form your FFmpeg setup expects. Do not reuse an old destination without checking the current stream details.
- Keep the key private. Store it in a protected configuration or secret store. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, shared document or log. Anyone with access to the key may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start a private rehearsal. Use the same media, FFmpeg build, ingest configuration and network you intend to use at launch. Confirm the preview and stream status in Live Control Room before announcing the broadcast.
3. Loop a recording with FFmpeg
Prepare and test the source
Choose recordings and visuals that you have cleared for the intended uses, then inspect the files and test them locally. Confirm that the files contain the audio and video you expect. Test transitions between the end and beginning of a file: looping can expose timestamp or playback problems at file boundaries. A private rehearsal is important because a command that works with one file, FFmpeg build or network is not a guarantee for another.
Use FFmpeg’s input-loop option
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop as the number of times an input is looped; -1 means infinite looping. The following is a starting example for a single local file, not a validated profile or a guaranteed command. It assumes the file’s codecs and container are suitable for the intended YouTube ingest:

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -i devotional.mp4 -c copy -f flv "$YOUTUBE_RTMP_URL/$YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY"Replace devotional.mp4 with your actual source file and set the two destination variables to the current URL and key from Live Control Room. In this example, -stream_loop -1 repeats the input, -re reads it at its recorded rate, -c copy passes through the existing audio and video streams without re-encoding, and -f flv selects the RTMP output container. Passing streams through only works when the source streams are compatible with the destination; the example does not establish a recommended resolution, bitrate, codec profile or host specification. If your media is not compatible, determine an appropriate encoding configuration for your files and setup, then rehearse it before going public.

Check the actual result
Watch the encoder output and Live Control Room during rehearsal. Check for missing audio or video, file-boundary errors, unexpected stops, ingest warnings and local CPU, storage or network limits. Do not assume that an FFmpeg process still running means YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.

4. Plan for failures and YouTube session boundaries
Monitor and recover
Keep the FFmpeg process supervised and set up alerting so someone can respond if it exits or the feed stops reaching YouTube. FFmpeg documents an RTMP FIFO muxer example that processes at real-time rate and attempts recovery every second after temporary network failures. That is a recovery mechanism for a class of network faults, not a guarantee against a failed host, network, encoder, platform or rights interruption. Test any recovery configuration with your real source and ingest before relying on it.
Manage sessions and archives
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The available guidance does not establish that one individual live event can continue indefinitely. Build session endings and restarts into your operating plan instead of promising one unbroken FFmpeg broadcast. Decide who will watch the dashboard, end or restart the session when needed, and review the resulting archives and any copyright claims.

YouTube’s getting-started guidance also reports limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These limits are unlikely to affect a single-feed setup, but matter if you operate several feeds.

- Live streaming is unavailable: check channel verification, current restrictions and activation status. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube shows no incoming preview: confirm that FFmpeg is running and that the current stream URL and key are entered correctly. Check encoder output and the Live Control Room status.
- The stream starts but has missing audio or video: inspect the source file’s streams and your output configuration. Test the exact file in a rehearsal before scheduling a public stream.
- The loop fails or glitches at a file boundary: test the end-to-start transition with the exact media and FFmpeg build. Do not treat infinite input looping as proof that every file can repeat cleanly.
- A network interruption stops the feed: check the host and connection, then confirm whether the process recovered and YouTube is receiving the stream again. A FIFO retry can help with temporary RTMP network faults, but does not cover every failure.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast or flags music: review Live Control Room warnings and contact the relevant rights owner. Confirm that your permissions cover the recording, composition, live use and any archive, and request channel allowlisting where Content ID applies.
- The broadcast ends or an archive appears: plan for YouTube’s under-12-hour archive behavior and manage the next session deliberately; do not assume the original event will run indefinitely.
6. DIY FFmpeg or a cloud service?
With FFmpeg, you control the encoder, process supervision and recovery, but you are responsible for operating the host and responding to failures. A managed service moves the always-on playback work to a provider, so compare its YouTube compatibility, source and playlist controls, failure visibility, recovery behavior, archive fit and current terms before relying on it. Neither approach changes your responsibility to clear music rights or manage YouTube’s stream sessions.
