You can run a continuous YouTube music broadcast from a cloud VM by encoding an authorized audio-video feed and sending it to YouTube Live. The harder prerequisite is not the server: it is documented permission for every recording and composition, for live transmission in the intended territories, and for any archived replay. A license may not prevent YouTube from interrupting a live stream unless the rights owner also allowlists your channel in Content ID.
Clear the music rights before setting up the VM
Do not assume that buying a soundtrack, owning a file, subscribing to a consumer music service, adding attribution, or using only a short or quiet clip gives you permission to broadcast it. The rights to a sound recording and the underlying composition can be distinct. Obtain written confirmation that covers the exact tracks and the uses you intend.

Build a track-by-track rights record
- Identify each sound recording and composition, and the relevant label, distributor, publisher, or other rights owner.
- Confirm that the grant covers live transmission on YouTube, the countries or territories where viewers may watch, the term, and monetization if you plan to monetize.
- Ask whether the grant covers YouTube’s archived replay as well as the live transmission.
- Ask the rights owner how it will add your channel to its Content ID allowlist, and confirm that the allowlisting has taken effect before launch.
- Keep the written grants, track list, territory and term details, and allowlisting confirmation together so an operator can respond to a claim or interruption.
YouTube for Artists advises music channels to coordinate use of copyright-protected music with a label or distributor. YouTube also warns that even a licensed stream may be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsKnow how YouTube treats live music and replays
YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If its systems detect third-party content, YouTube may replace the live stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. An archived replay can receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast ends, so clearance for the live feed alone is not enough if you intend to keep the replay.

For commercial South Indian film songs, do not treat YouTube’s special live Content ID matching feature as a workaround. That feature is limited to certain Content Manager partners and requires global rights and exclusive ownership of the stream content; it is not a general clearance route for a typical channel using film music. Choose a continuous-stream architecture
In a self-managed setup, media files and an encoder run on a VM; the encoder sends a continuous feed to YouTube’s ingest service. The VM can keep that process running even when your own computer is off, but you are responsible for the encoder, supervision, logs, monitoring, and response when a process or connection fails.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API models the event and its incoming media feed as separate resources: a liveBroadcast represents the broadcast, a liveStream represents the feed, and a bind operation associates them. A broadcast can be tested before it transitions to live. You can instead configure a supported encoder through YouTube Studio; the cited YouTube material does not prescribe a particular encoder application, VM operating system, or machine size. Google Cloud also offers a managed Live Stream API that transcodes live linear video for different devices. That is a separate managed-transcoding option, not the same thing as renting a VM and operating your own encoder. Available evidence does not establish one as the better choice for this channel. Set up the channel and credentials in advance
- Verify the channel and enable livestreaming. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live access at least 24 hours before a channel’s first use. Do this early rather than treating activation as a launch-day step. YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels
- Choose the Studio or API route. With YouTube Studio, configure a supported encoder using the stream details YouTube provides. With API automation, create the broadcast and stream resources, then bind them as described in YouTube’s broadcast lifecycle documentation. Life of a Broadcast
- Authorize the channel correctly if using the API. YouTube Live API calls use OAuth authorization tied to the channel owner’s Google account. A service-account OAuth flow is not supported for linking a YouTube account. The channel must also be eligible for livestreaming. Protect OAuth credentials and stream keys as secrets; do not put them in public code, logs, or a public repository. YouTube Live Streaming API: OAuth 2.0 authentication
- Keep broadcast and feed details aligned. Use the intended title, visibility, schedule, and stream configuration for the broadcast, and verify that the feed is bound to the correct event before starting the encoder.
Test the full path before going public
Run an unlisted test before relying on a public continuous broadcast. YouTube for Artists recommends testing unlisted. Confirm that the intended feed reaches the correct event, audio is continuous and intelligible, metadata is correct, and the rights owner has completed any required allowlisting. Also observe what happens when the encoder or network connection is interrupted, and verify your recovery procedure. YouTube for Artists: Going Live for Music Channels
Do not use an uncleared public test as a substitute for rights approval. The same third-party-content scanning applies to live streams, and a test archive may create a separate replay-rights issue.

Operate the VM as a service, not an unattended experiment
A 24/7 design needs an operator plan as well as a running encoder. Supervise the encoder so it can be restarted after an exit, retain enough logs to diagnose failures without exposing secrets, and alert someone when the encoder stops or YouTube ingest is lost. Decide who can respond, how quickly, and how to verify the broadcast after recovery. These are practical operational safeguards; YouTube’s cited documents do not mandate a particular process supervisor or monitoring product.
Recommended Free Tools
- Record the expected broadcast state and a simple check for whether the feed is reaching YouTube.
- Test restart and reconnection behavior before launch, including what happens after a VM reboot.
- Keep source media and configuration recoverable, but restrict access to stream keys and OAuth credentials.
- Check YouTube Studio for stream status, restrictions, and any notices rather than assuming a running VM means an uninterrupted public stream.
Budget with measured workload and current provider prices
No responsible single VM size or monthly cost can be stated without the workload and provider, and the available evidence does not establish a South-Indian-film-song-specific cloud cost. Measure the intended encoding workload and check the provider’s current pricing for the selected region, compute, storage, and sustained outbound data transfer. Do not assume YouTube-bound egress is free. Resolution and bitrate affect resource use and transfer volume; storage and recovery requirements also matter.
When comparing a self-managed VM with managed transcoding, check regional availability, compute and sustained egress pricing, encoder compatibility, restart and supervision controls, storage and recovery, monitoring, and output resolution and bitrate. Use the provider’s calculator and test the intended audio/video workflow before committing long term. No particular provider, machine size, or 24/7 price is established here.

Troubleshoot interruptions and failed launches
YouTube interrupts a stream despite a license
A license does not by itself establish that the channel is allowlisted in Content ID. Ask the rights owner or distributor to confirm the channel was added to the allowlist and that the grant covers the tracks and live use. Review YouTube Studio for restrictions or notices, then resolve the rights issue before restarting a public stream. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

The feed does not appear on the intended broadcast
Check that the encoder is using the stream details for the correct event and, if using the API, that the liveStream was bound to the intended liveBroadcast. Confirm the broadcast is in a state that accepts the feed before treating the problem as a VM failure. Life of a Broadcast
The API cannot authorize the channel
Check that OAuth authorization is associated with the channel owner’s Google account and that the channel is eligible for livestreaming. A service account is not a supported substitute for the channel-linked OAuth flow. YouTube Live Streaming API: OAuth 2.0 authentication
The live stream ends, then the replay receives a claim
Live clearance and replay clearance are separate checks for your rights record. YouTube says Content ID claims can be made after a live stream completes; review Studio and confirm that your grant covers archived replay before keeping or publishing the archive. The VM is running but the channel is offline
A running VM does not prove that the encoder is healthy or that YouTube is receiving its feed. Check encoder logs, process supervision, network connectivity, and the broadcast’s ingest status; use alerts to detect encoder exits or lost ingest and test recovery behavior before a public launch.
