You can run a prerecorded education stream on YouTube Live from an Indian data-center VPS by using the VPS as a software-encoder host: configure an encoder with the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room, then keep it sending the video feed. YouTube—not the VPS—delivers playback to viewers. The setup can keep a feed running, but it does not guarantee that a 24-hour transmission will be archived, earn YouTube Partner Program (YPP) watch hours, or qualify for monetization.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled, and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to live stream. Check current eligibility in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- A prerecorded lesson or playlist that you have the rights to use, including its music, images, slides, and any third-party material.
- An Indian data-center VPS with suitable encoding capacity, sustained outbound bandwidth, and a provider policy that permits continuous streaming.
- An encoder that can send to YouTube over RTMPS, plus a plan for monitoring and restarting it if it stops.
The VPS runs the encoder and sends an outbound feed. YouTube handles viewer playback and transcoding. An India location does not by itself guarantee lower latency or better playback for every viewer.

Choose a VPS that can sustain the stream
No specific Indian provider, instance size, price, egress quota, or uptime level is established here. Before buying, check the provider’s own current specifications and terms rather than choosing on location alone.
- Encoding fit: Confirm the CPU can encode your chosen video format at the required resolution and frame rate, or that usable hardware encoding is available. Encoding demand depends on the source and output settings.
- Sustained egress: Check the provider’s continuous outbound bandwidth capacity, traffic allowance, and any restrictions on streaming. A short speed test does not establish that a VPS can sustain the feed around the clock.
- Operations: Make sure you can access logs and monitoring, supervise the encoder process, and configure restart behavior. A restart can restore a stopped process, but it does not replace checking whether the feed is actually reaching YouTube.
- Total cost: Include compute, storage, outbound traffic charges, and any monitoring or backup capacity you choose to use.
A software encoder on a VPS does not require a dedicated hardware encoder. It gives you control over the software and stream configuration, but you are responsible for compute capacity, process supervision, and recovery planning. A hosted VPS also makes the provider’s sustained egress and service terms part of your operating plan.

Create a YouTube encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or schedule an encoder stream.
- In the stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or include it in a public script or log. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Choose YouTube’s RTMPS server URL where your encoder supports it. RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS/SSL; YouTube describes it as “a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
- Enter the URL and key in your encoder’s stream or output settings. Select the correct input file or playlist, then configure the video and audio output.
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Preview it there before starting the public broadcast. YouTube creates the watch page when the encoder starts sending.
Set resolution, bitrate, codec, and keyframes
Use the encoder settings supported by your chosen software and match them to YouTube’s current recommendations. The appropriate bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate; there is no single bitrate that fits every stream. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings for its current bitrate table and supported settings.
- Video codec: YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 options. Use a codec supported by both your encoder and the selected YouTube ingest workflow.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding for live output.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval where possible; YouTube says the frequency should not exceed four seconds.
- Resolution and frame rate: Choose output that your VPS can encode reliably and that fits YouTube’s current settings table. A higher output setting also raises the bitrate and compute demands.
- Audio: Check that the intended audio track is selected and has an audible, consistent level in the Live Control Room preview. The cited guidance does not establish one universal audio setting for every source.
Allow enough outbound bandwidth
YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the total outgoing stream bitrate. Apply that margin to the aggregate output, including a backup stream if you configure one. For example, if the encoder sends a total of 10 Mbps, plan for at least 12 Mbps of sustained available outbound capacity under that recommendation—not merely a momentary peak. See YouTube’s live-stream network tips.

For a VPS, verify sustained egress and the host’s traffic allowance. A stream running continuously can use substantial monthly transfer, so calculate expected traffic from the bitrate and expected hours, then check how the provider bills outbound data. YouTube’s bandwidth margin is guidance, not a promise that a particular VPS will maintain its rated capacity.

- CanaKit Raspberry Pi 5 Essentials Starter Kit
- Start the encoder in advance and inspect the Live Control Room preview for picture, audio, and incoming status.
- Open the watch page from the channel and test it on a mobile device. Confirm the stream is accessible to the intended audience and has the expected visibility.
- Test how your setup behaves if the encoder process stops or the VPS briefly loses connectivity. Confirm your supervisor or alerting detects a stopped process, and verify that the encoder reconnects successfully. YouTube recommends testing backup or failover behavior; no specific VPS or automation method is certified by that guidance.
- Monitor the stream after it goes live, especially audio and video. Process status alone does not prove that viewers are receiving a usable feed.
- If you also record locally, check the resulting file’s integrity. A local recording is a separate safeguard, not proof that YouTube archived the live transmission.
Choose one long transmission or shorter sessions
YouTube’s encoder setup page says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That statement does not promise an archive for a single uninterrupted 24-hour stream. If an archive matters, consider ending and restarting on a schedule that keeps each session under 12 hours, then verify the actual results in YouTube Studio before depending on them. Shorter sessions create more opportunities to check the feed and recover deliberately, but every restart is another operation to manage; the published archive guidance is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will produce a usable archive.
For YPP watch hours, YouTube’s August 12, 2026 guidance says public archived livestreams may count as qualifying public watch hours, while unarchived live streams do not. Archiving alone does not guarantee that a stream or channel meets all YPP requirements. See YouTube’s qualified-watch-hours guidance.

Check rights and monetization policy separately
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and assess originality and authenticity at channel level. Its July 15, 2025 notice explains that the “repetitious content” policy was renamed “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under the existing policy; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. Educational material should make the creator’s contribution and viewer value clear. A static loop or minimally altered compilation carries policy risk, but the published guidance does not make every 24/7 format categorically allowed or prohibited. Permission to use content does not, by itself, establish YPP eligibility.

YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to represent that it has all necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of its live content and will comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations. The cited guidance does not establish an India-specific license or VPS regulatory requirement for this creator setup; do not treat this article as jurisdiction-specific legal advice.
