The practical requirements are a channel eligible for live streaming, rain audio and visuals you have the rights to use, enough reliable upload capacity, and a plan to monitor the PC and connection. Do not treat a 24/7 loop as guaranteed income: YouTube applies originality and reused-content rules to live streams, and a broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be archived.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your intended launch. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
- A PC capable of encoding your chosen video and audio continuously. There is no established universal minimum PC specification for this low-motion use case; test the exact project and settings on your machine.
- Original rain recordings and visuals, or documented permission to use them. Keep the source recordings and project files, and make the finished stream meaningfully distinctive.
- A stable internet connection with sufficient upload capacity for the encoder bitrate, plus headroom for other devices sharing the connection.
- A way to monitor the broadcast and save a local recording if you need an archive.
Prepare a rain stream that is both usable and distinctive
Build your audio and visual material
Record rain yourself or use material for which you have clear rights. Keep evidence such as original recordings, project files, licenses, and notes about how you produced the final mix. Permission to use another creator’s audio does not by itself make a minimally changed reupload eligible for monetization.
Plan deliberate creative choices rather than relying on a short file repeated unchanged: for example, combine your own recordings into a purposeful soundscape, make meaningful variations in the rain and ambience, and use visuals that are your work or properly licensed. Describe the production accurately in the stream title, description, and channel information. These steps do not guarantee monetization; they make your authorship and contribution clearer.
Check rights before broadcasting
Confirm that your rights cover the actual use you intend, including continuous livestreaming and any replay or archive. A license may have limits, and the copyright status of the music, field recording, image, or video can differ. Do not assume that a “free” download or permission to use a track resolves YouTube’s separate monetization review.

Set up YouTube Live and your encoder
- Enable live streaming: In YouTube Studio, verify the channel and enable live streaming. YouTube may take up to 24 hours to activate first-time access, and the channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create an encoder stream: Open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream using an encoder. The exact screen labels can change, so follow the current Live Control Room prompts.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in a screen recording, share it, or place it in a public file. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Configure the encoder: Choose a resolution and bitrate your PC and upload connection can sustain. There is no single upload-speed figure that suits every configuration; the required capacity depends on the outgoing bitrate and network conditions. YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth room above the stream’s needs, especially when other people or devices use the same connection. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains setup and recommends testing.
- Preview and test: Start the encoder privately or use an appropriate test setup, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Listen for unwanted gaps, clipping, or sudden volume changes and check the visual output before making the broadcast public. YouTube transcodes incoming streams for viewers; test the actual material and settings you plan to use.
- Go live and monitor: Start the public broadcast only after the preview is healthy. Monitor Live Control Room and the PC, and verify that any local recording is being written. YouTube specifically advises checking that a local archive file’s size is growing. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Plan for connection, power, and interruptions
A computer-based broadcast depends on the PC, encoder, home power, router, and ISP connection continuing to work. YouTube warns that unreliable connectivity can interrupt a stream and recommends adequate upload capacity with 20% headroom. A wired Ethernet connection may reduce Wi-Fi variability, but it cannot prevent an ISP or power outage.
A UPS for the PC and router is an optional way to provide backup power. Choose its capacity only after measuring the equipment load and deciding how much backup runtime you want; no particular UPS capacity is established for every home setup. Likewise, electricity cost depends on the PC’s measured power draw, hours of use, and your local tariff. Measure those inputs rather than relying on a generic Indian household estimate.

Do not rely on a 24/7 stream as your only archive
YouTube may automatically archive a livestream that is under 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a continuous broadcast should not be your only copy of important material. If you want replayable sessions, plan shorter broadcasts and confirm the resulting archive, while keeping your own local source files and recordings. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
Understand monetization before building the channel around it
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streaming. YouTube says monetized content should be original and authentic; content that appears generic, repetitive, or mass-produced may not qualify. Reviewers may consider the channel’s theme, most-viewed and newest videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. YouTube channel monetization policies

Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. YouTube notes that having permission to use someone else’s recording does not itself establish monetization eligibility if the channel essentially republishes it without substantive original changes or value. Make the creative work visible in the sound design, mix, visuals, and channel descriptions; do not assume a licensed loop is automatically monetizable.

Work through common problems
