Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →You can loop a prepared Gurbani video through FFmpeg and publish it to YouTube Live, but -stream_loop -1 only repeats the input—it does not guarantee that a failed YouTube connection will recover. First enable Live on your channel, confirm rights to each recording, configure a suitable encoder profile, then rehearse and plan how you will detect and restart failures.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. The channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do it before your planned broadcast.
- A computer that can run FFmpeg continuously, a stable internet connection with upload capacity for the chosen bitrate, and a power and restart plan. YouTube’s reviewed setup guidance does not specify minimum CPU, RAM, disk, or thermal requirements; choose hardware only after deciding on your encoding profile, then rehearse under the expected load.
- Prepared video and audio files that FFmpeg can read, plus permission for the specific music recordings and compositions you plan to broadcast.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and a private stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
Clear rights for the Gurbani recordings
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a recording free to stream. Check the rights for each sound recording and the underlying composition, and keep a record of the permission or license that covers live online use. A recording may have rights separate from the words or traditional material it contains.

YouTube for Artists advises: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” Do not assume that a particular Punjabi Gurbani track is cleared merely because it is religious, old, or available on another channel. If you cannot confirm that the license covers your intended broadcast, leave that recording out until you can.
Enable YouTube Live and get the ingest details
- Enable live streaming in advance. In YouTube Studio, start the live-streaming setup and complete any verification prompts. Check that the channel has no active live-streaming restriction. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Open Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the broadcast you intend to use, then choose the encoder workflow. YouTube will show the ingest server URL and stream key for that setup.
- Keep the key private. Copy the server URL and key into a secure place for use on the FFmpeg machine. If the key is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
- Choose the planned audience setting. Use the visibility setting appropriate for your rehearsal or public broadcast. For the first test, use an unlisted stream so you can inspect the preview without announcing a public service.
Choose a stream profile that matches your source and connection
Use an output resolution and frame rate your computer can encode and your connection can sustain. A higher video resolution does not improve the audio quality of a music-first broadcast; prioritize clean, uninterrupted audio and reliable delivery. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 frames per second, and AAC or MP3 audio. H.264 is a practical baseline when you want a profile with explicit bitrate examples.

| H.264 output profile | YouTube recommended ingest video bitrate | Keyframe interval |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingest encoding video bitrates, not promises about the bitrate viewers will receive. The platform gives separate recommendations for AV1 and H.265, so do not transfer these H.264 values to another codec without checking its matching profile. Allow upload headroom above the selected stream bitrate for network variation; a connection that only just reaches the target may not remain stable.
- Rate control: use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: target one every 2 seconds, and do not let the interval exceed 4 seconds. At 30 fps, a 2-second GOP is 60 frames.
- Audio: use AAC or MP3. YouTube’s recommended stereo audio setting is 128 Kbps at 44.1 kHz. Listen for clipping, silence, channel imbalance, and abrupt level changes in an actual test.
- Protocol: use RTMPS when configuring the ingest destination; YouTube recommends it for encrypted transport.
Prepare a file and loop it with FFmpeg
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinite looping of an input. Put the option before the input it applies to. The example below is a starting point for one local, combined video-and-audio file intended for H.264 1080p30 ingest. It uses the recommended H.264 ingest video bitrate for that profile, AAC stereo audio, CBR-style rate limits, and a 60-frame GOP (2 seconds at 30 fps). It is not a universal command: confirm the file’s properties, installed FFmpeg encoders, and the output profile before using it.

read -r -p "RTMPS server URL from Live Control Room: " RTMP_URL
read -r -s -p "YouTube stream key: " STREAM_KEY

Run the commands in a Bash-compatible terminal after replacing gurbani-video.mp4 with the path to your own combined media file. Enter the server URL and key exactly as provided by Live Control Room; the command trims a trailing slash on the server URL before appending the key. The key is hidden while you type it in terminals that support silent input. Do not save it in a public script or paste it into a support forum.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The example assumes that libx264 is available in your FFmpeg build, that the input can be decoded, and that 30 fps H.264 encoding is appropriate. If your source is separate audio and video files, an audio-only file, a playlist, or an HTTP feed, the input and synchronization options need to change. If the source does not match the intended frame rate or dimensions, inspect it and make an explicit conversion plan rather than assuming this command will produce the desired profile. For a source that already has suitable encoding, stream-copying may be possible, but only if its codecs, resolution, frame rate, timestamps, keyframe cadence, and container behavior suit YouTube’s ingest requirements.

-re reads a file at its native rate so the file is sent in real time rather than as fast as the computer can process it. FFmpeg warns against using low-rate reads with actual capture devices or live streams because this can cause packet loss; do not add -re indiscriminately to an already-live input.
Rehearse, then start the public broadcast
- Run an unlisted test. Start FFmpeg with a short, representative section or the intended looping file. Include the kind of motion and audio levels you expect in the real broadcast.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Wait for the encoder preview, inspect the image and listen to the sound, then review YouTube’s stream-health indicators. Confirm that the stream is arriving at the intended resolution and frame rate.
- Check for continuity problems. Listen across a loop boundary, look for black frames or frozen video, and verify that audio does not drop out or jump in level. Check FFmpeg output for encoding, input, or publishing errors.
- End the rehearsal and make the intended stream public. Use the appropriate broadcast in Live Control Room and confirm its visibility before sharing it with viewers.
- Monitor the encoder and connection. Keep a person or an alerting process responsible for noticing a stalled process, failed ingest, or degraded stream health. Record the steps for safely restarting FFmpeg and reconnecting the encoder.
Plan for failures and long broadcasts
Looping a file is not the same as running an unattended service. FFmpeg’s documented reconnect, reconnect_streamed, reconnect_on_network_error, and reconnect_at_eof options concern HTTP protocol behavior on inputs. They are not a general fix for a failed RTMP or RTMPS publishing connection to YouTube. Plan process supervision, useful logs and alerts, network and power resilience, and a restart procedure tested with your actual input and output. The reviewed guidance does not establish a specific uptime guarantee for a DIY setup.

Also plan archive needs separately from continuous delivery. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not guarantee that a single 24-hour broadcast will be saved as one complete automatic archive, nor does it prescribe how to divide a perpetual service into broadcasts. If a complete archive matters, test the intended arrangement and make a separate recording plan rather than relying on one uninterrupted stream.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel has not completed verification or activation, activation is still pending, or the channel has a live-stream restriction. | Complete channel verification, check eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement. |
| FFmpeg cannot connect or YouTube receives no feed | The server URL or key is mistyped, the key is stale, the ingest destination is wrong, or the network cannot reach the service. | Copy the current URL and key from the intended Live Control Room stream, verify that no spaces or quotes were added to either value, and inspect FFmpeg’s output and YouTube’s encoder status. |
| Preview does not appear or stream health is poor | The encoder profile, connection, timestamps, or system load may not be suitable. | Confirm the chosen codec and profile, compare upload capacity with the configured bitrate, check CPU load and FFmpeg errors, and repeat an unlisted test with representative content. |
| Audio is silent, distorted, or out of sync | The file’s audio track, encoding settings, levels, timestamps, or channel layout may not match the command’s assumptions. | Play the source locally, inspect its audio stream, check the AAC settings and levels, and listen through the test preview, including at the loop point. |
| The video freezes or the process stops | The input may be unreadable, the machine or network may have failed, or the publishing connection may have dropped. | Inspect FFmpeg logs and machine/network status, verify that the file remains accessible, then restart using a tested procedure. Do not assume HTTP input reconnect flags will restore a YouTube publishing connection. |
| The stream runs but is not archived as expected | Automatic archive behavior does not guarantee one full recording of a broadcast lasting 12 hours or more. | Design the archive plan around the under-12-hour automatic archive behavior, verify results after a test, and keep a separate recording if a complete copy is required. |
| A copyright claim, block, or strike occurs | A recording or composition may not be licensed for the broadcast, or the rights-holder may have identified its use. | Pause use of the disputed track, review the rights and any claim details, and contact the relevant rights-holder or distributor. Do not re-broadcast it until the live-use permission is clear. |

Cost and operating trade-offs
A self-hosted FFmpeg stream has no StreamNeo slot fee, but you provide the computer, electricity, stable upload connection, monitoring, and recovery effort. Hardware requirements depend on the chosen codec and profile; no minimum specification is established here. The cloud route avoids leaving a home computer running and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, but it is a paid service after its one free day per account. Decide based on who will monitor the broadcast, how quickly the team can recover it, and whether the recordings fit the available upload and storage workflow.
