Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You can use a Raspberry Pi as the local playout and encoder host for a Punjabi folk music YouTube livestream: prepare the Pi, create a stream in YouTube Live Control Room, enter YouTube’s server URL and private stream key in an encoder, then test the exact audio and visual setup before broadcasting. The hardware can make a compact setup, but published Pi specifications do not prove that a particular board and encoder will run unattended without interruption. Plan for power, internet and monitoring failures, YouTube’s under-12-hour archive limit, and permission for every recording and composition.
What you need to decide before setting up the Pi
- Music rights: Confirm that you have permission to livestream each composition and recording, and check whether that permission also covers an archive, monetization and your intended territories.
- Presentation: Decide whether viewers will see album art, a still image or a visualizer. Test the chosen visual output along with the music; a continuous audio track does not remove the need to configure and monitor the video stream.
- Operations: Decide who will notice and respond if power, internet access, the encoder or the YouTube connection stops. Also plan how broadcasts will be replaced before they reach YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold.
- Hardware: The example below uses Raspberry Pi 5. The title does not specify a model, and the cited product information does not establish a tested continuous-streaming recipe for this or earlier Pi boards.
Prepare Raspberry Pi 5
Raspberry Pi 5 has a 2.4 GHz quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 processor, memory configurations listed from 1 GB to 16 GB, a microSD slot, Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, and USB-C power input. Raspberry Pi’s product brief also lists 4Kp60 HEVC decoding. That is a decoding specification, not evidence that the Pi can encode a particular 4K stream continuously. See the Raspberry Pi 5 product brief.

Install the operating system and connect the hardware
- Install Raspberry Pi OS Lite if you do not need a desktop. Raspberry Pi’s getting-started guidance recommends an SD card of at least 8 GB for Lite; that minimum is for the operating system, not the size or endurance requirement for your music library.
- Use a Raspberry Pi 5-compatible power supply. Raspberry Pi recommends a 27 W USB-C supply, with 5 V at 5 A as the recommended power level. Follow the current Raspberry Pi getting-started guidance.
- Connect the Pi to your router. Ethernet is a practical choice when available; Pi 5 also has dual-band Wi-Fi. Ethernet avoids relying on the local Wi-Fi link, but neither option protects against router, ISP or power failure.
- Place the Pi where it can operate safely and where you can check it. Validate thermal behavior and the exact software configuration during a sustained test rather than assuming the published hardware specifications establish continuous encoding performance.
Create a YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. If the channel has never streamed live before, enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube into the encoder you choose on the Pi. The key is a credential that lets an encoder connect to your broadcast; keep it private and do not put it in a public script, post or screenshot.
- Start the encoder to send its feed. YouTube says the live watch page is created when the encoder starts sending. For a scheduled stream, preview it in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
YouTube’s help page lists software and hardware encoders and names Gyre as a third-party cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. That listing is not an endorsement, a rights clearance, or evidence of a Raspberry Pi setup recipe.

Use YouTube’s published ingest settings as a target, then choose output your encoder and network can sustain. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), and supported video and audio codecs. Its stereo audio guidance is 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. The figures below are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of your connection or proof that a Pi configuration will work.

| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
See YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions for supported formats and recommendations. YouTube recommends testing upload speed, doing a preflight with audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast, and watching stream health and messages while live.
Run a preflight before going public
- Set the encoder to RTMPS if available, CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. Select a supported codec and configure audio at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps stereo if those settings suit your source and encoder.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate the Pi and encoder can sustain. For a still-image-and-music presentation, do not assume that a low-motion picture guarantees an encoder will remain stable; test the exact output you plan to use.
- Send a private or scheduled test feed and inspect YouTube’s preview and stream-health messages. Confirm that the picture, music level and channel balance are right and that there are no interruptions or unexpected source changes.
- Test cold boot, transitions between source files, a network interruption and recovery, audio continuity, key handling, thermal behavior and how an operator will be notified if the stream stops.
- Only move to a public broadcast after the test passes. Keep a way to check the live dashboard and respond to encoder or connection problems.
No specific Pi command line, playlist configuration, process supervisor or reconnect script is established here as a tested solution. Select and validate the playout and encoder software for your board instead of relying on an unverified command as a guarantee of 24/7 operation.

Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A broadcast intended to run around the clock therefore needs an archive and stream-transition plan. One operational approach is to stop one broadcast and start a replacement before the threshold, but YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a restart cadence or establish that a specific Pi tool can automate transitions reliably. Decide how you will manage the handoff, monitor the dashboard and detect a stopped encoder.

Check rights for both the underlying composition and the particular sound recording. A traditional melody or public-domain status for a composition does not, by itself, establish permission to stream a modern recording. A consumer music subscription or the fact that a song is folk music should not be treated as proof of livestream rights.

- Identify the owner or authorized licensor for each recording and composition in the playlist.
- Confirm that the permission covers livestreaming, the countries where the stream will be available, and any monetization you plan to pursue.
- Check separately whether the permission covers YouTube’s archive or other video-on-demand availability.
- Keep copies of licenses or written permissions and remove tracks whose status you cannot verify.
YouTube says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize livestreams, but running a stream does not guarantee eligibility, ads or revenue. The rights status of any particular Punjabi folk recording must be established independently.

A Pi keeps playout and encoding on hardware you operate. You provide and maintain the device, power, network connection, software and monitoring. A cloud service moves those local operating responsibilities to a hosted service, but you still need to supply content and rights-cleared music. YouTube’s encoder help page lists Gyre for prerecorded 24/7 streams; no price, rights clearance or reliability comparison is established here.
