You can keep a YouTube meditation stream running through local power cuts only if the devices encoding the stream and the network equipment it depends on stay powered—and your internet connection remains available. Back up the computer or encoder, modem or ONT, and router together; test the backup under load; and plan for interruptions separately from electricity. A UPS cannot keep an ISP link alive if that link fails, and YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in full.
What has to stay available for a continuous stream
An encoder-based YouTube Live stream depends on three things: a working encoder, a route to the internet with sufficient upload capacity, and YouTube receiving the broadcast. A local power cut can stop the encoder or network equipment; an ISP or mobile-network failure can break the connection even if your devices remain on. YouTube or encoder problems can interrupt a stream for other reasons.

Plan for each dependency rather than treating a UPS as a guarantee of uninterrupted broadcasting. YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring it; its guidance does not promise automatic recovery after every arbitrary power or network failure.

Check channel eligibility in advance
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming before the day you intend to launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Create the event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream.
- Copy the stream server URL and stream key shown for the event into your encoder’s streaming settings.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the watch page, sound level, image, and any on-screen text before going live.
- Test with the same video, audio, resolution, and network path you plan to use continuously.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes software and hardware encoders. An encoder is useful for a pre-produced meditation scene or recording; choose one whose restart, monitoring, and recording behavior you understand.
Choose a stream profile your upload connection can sustain
Measure upload speed at the location and time the stream will run. A download-speed result does not establish upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom, so the total stream bitrate should stay comfortably below the available upload bandwidth. A connection that varies or is shared with other devices may need a more conservative profile. Follow YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder setup guidance when testing.
For H.264, YouTube’s encoder-settings recommendations accessed in 2026 list the following example bitrates. They are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that your internet connection can sustain them.

A mostly still image or slow-moving meditation visual does not automatically need a high resolution or bitrate. Select a profile that looks acceptable and remains stable in a real test. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds; do not set the interval above four seconds. Available codec choices include H.264, H.265, or AV1 depending on the encoder and configuration. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions before configuring, since platform guidance can change.
Back up power for the encoder and network
Include the whole essential chain
List every device that must remain powered for the broadcast to continue:
- The computer running the encoder, or the dedicated hardware encoder.
- The modem or ONT and router that provide the internet connection.
- Any required audio or video source equipment.
A battery backup for only the computer is incomplete if the router shuts off, and a router backup is not enough if the encoder loses power. A UPS or other battery system can bridge a local mains interruption only for as long as it can supply the connected load.

Size and test for your own setup
Measure the actual watt draw of the devices you intend to back up, decide how long you need them to run, and compare those figures with the battery system’s supported load and expected runtime. There is no universally suitable UPS capacity: runtime depends on the equipment, battery condition, and backup system. Test the transfer with the full setup running. If it causes the computer, modem, or router to reboot, the stream can still drop.

Ask your ISP what service, if any, remains during a local outage. If you plan to use mobile data as a fallback, test its coverage and usable upload at the streaming location during the conditions when you expect to need it. Outages and network resilience vary by address; there is no single outage pattern or battery recommendation that applies to all of India.
Rehearse outages, failover, and recovery
Run a rehearsal before relying on the stream. YouTube recommends preparing encoders in advance, checking the Live Control Room preview, and monitoring audio and video quality. Its failover guidance suggests stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable to check whether a backup encoder takes over. For a power-cut scenario, test battery transfer too.

- Confirm the UPS or battery keeps the encoder and all necessary network devices running without rebooting.
- Test the planned internet fallback at the same location, and verify upload capacity with the stream active.
- If using a backup encoder, check that it has independent power and connectivity where needed; a second encoder on the same failed power or network path may not help.
- Check any local recording file during the test to make sure it is being written and growing.
- View the event from its watch page and a mobile device, and listen for silent or distorted audio as well as checking the image.
- Decide who will respond to a frozen picture, lost audio, encoder crash, network failure, or YouTube warning. Document how to reconnect and verify the event after an interruption.
Do not assume the same live event will resume automatically after a power cut, or that a brief interruption will leave an intact archive. YouTube’s live-streaming tips describe testing and monitoring, not guaranteed recovery from every failure.
Decide how you will keep a recording
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24/7 event is therefore not a reliable way to retain a complete recording. Keep a local recording if the archive matters, and verify it is being saved while live. Planned shorter events may reduce archive risk, but their breaks may interrupt the continuous listening experience. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Clear rights and consider monetization separately
Use music and visuals you have permission to broadcast
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A detected match may replace the live feed with a placeholder; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. Obtain appropriate rights for music, ambient sounds, images, video loops, and other assets before using them in an always-on broadcast. If you have licensed third-party content, the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Do not assume a loop is monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its policy updated July 15, 2025 clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered by its “inauthentic content” policy. A continuously looped track paired with a static visual may raise originality and value questions; monetization is not assured. Meaningful original contributions—such as distinct guided sessions, compositions, or instruction—may make the offering more useful, but eligibility remains subject to YouTube’s review and applicable policies.
