You can run a 24/7 lo-fi radio stream on YouTube by sending a playlist through a live encoder—such as OBS—or by using a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. Before starting, verify your channel can livestream and clear every track and visual for continuous live use and any replay. A 24-hour broadcast is not guaranteed to become a YouTube archive.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists encoder streaming as an option in its live-streaming setup guidance.
- A playlist of audio and visuals you have the rights to use for a YouTube livestream, including any replay you intend to keep available.
- Either a computer running streaming software and media playback, or a cloud service that can loop uploaded videos to YouTube.
- A plan for monitoring the stream and preserving a separate recording if you need an archive.
YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish a minimum computer specification or a particular OBS playlist configuration. Test your chosen playback and encoder workflow before scheduling a continuous broadcast.

Choose how to keep the stream running
Run an encoder on your own computer
You control the playlist and encoding locally, but the computer, streaming software, media playback, power, and internet connection must remain available. If the computer or connection stops, the encoder can stop sending the stream. OBS provides official streaming help; use it to configure and test your setup rather than assuming one specific playlist-loop recipe applies to every version or workflow.

Prepare and check your playlist
Clear music and visuals for the actual use
Confirm that your rights cover a continuous YouTube live broadcast and any archived replay, in the territories and for the duration you intend. “Royalty-free,” permission to upload, or a track being available online does not by itself establish those rights. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights.
Test the program and playback
Check that the playlist plays continuously, that audio levels are consistent, and that the visual does not expose material you are not entitled to broadcast. Verify your playback and encoder together in a test run. Do not assume a particular loop setting or reconnect behavior without testing it in your own setup.

Start the YouTube livestream with an encoder
- Check channel access. In YouTube Studio, confirm the channel is verified and can livestream. YouTube says a restriction in the previous 90 days can affect livestream access; consult its current eligibility guidance for the applicable steps.
- Create a livestream in YouTube Studio. Choose the encoder workflow and configure the stream details and visibility you want. The exact screen labels can change; follow the current Studio prompts.
- Copy the stream key into your encoder. Use the key and server information shown by YouTube in the encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Set up the playlist and video output. In your playback and encoder workflow, select the prepared lo-fi program and confirm that the intended video and audio reach the encoder. OBS is one available encoder; see the OBS Help Portal for its current guidance.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube Studio. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and review its status and any warnings. Check the actual stream rather than relying only on the encoder’s local preview.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on playback, connection status, and YouTube Studio notices. Have a plan for restarting the encoder or restoring the playlist if your local setup is interrupted.
Copyright can interrupt a stream even when you have a licence
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. Its live-stream copyright guidance says it may replace the live video with a placeholder and issue a warning when it identifies such material; if the content remains, the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. If a rights holder has licensed a track for your stream, ask that holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed replay. If a recording matters, make a separate local recording or arrange another archive workflow. YouTube recommends a local backup in its archive guidance.

Understand monetization limits
Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and say repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. Its reused-content policy also identifies collections of songs from different artists as a format that may not be monetizable even when the creator has permission. The policy page was updated on July 15, 2025 to clarify its coverage of repetitive or mass-produced content.
Do not assume a lo-fi playlist qualifies for monetization or will earn a particular amount. Accepted YouTube Partner Program channels may have platform features such as Super Chat and Super Stickers, subject to channel and platform eligibility; see YouTube’s earning-money guidance.
