How to Run a 24/7 Indian Music YouTube Stream with a Raspberry Pi 4

A Raspberry Pi 4 Model B can be part of a 24/7 YouTube music-streaming setup, but its published specifications do not establish that a particular encoder configuration will run continuously or recover reliably. Before configuring hardware, clear the rights for every recording and musical work you plan to broadcast: YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may interrupt them. This guide sets out what the Pi can establish, what you must arrange, and where the evidence does not support a specific command or guaranteed setup.

Clear the music rights before you build the stream

Rights are the first gate, not a setting to solve after going live. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed to exploit the live content worldwide, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms before broadcasting.

For an Indian music catalog, check permissions for each recording and its underlying musical work, and confirm the permission covers live streaming, the territories where the broadcast will be available, and any other intended uses. Indian copyright law treats musical works and sound recordings as distinct subject matter and separately addresses broadcast reproduction and performer rights; the cited Act pages do not determine the licensing route for a particular catalog or use. Consult the rights holders and, where needed, an India-qualified music-rights professional. See the Copyright Act, Chapter I and Chapter VIII.

Buying or downloading a track does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; persistent matching may temporarily interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed music can be interrupted if the rights owner has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the relevant rights holders whether allowlisting is required and obtain confirmation. If YouTube archives the broadcast, it says Content ID claims are made after the live stream ends. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

What a Raspberry Pi 4 can—and cannot—establish

Raspberry Pi’s published Raspberry Pi 4 Model B specifications list H.264 1080p30 encode capability, Gigabit Ethernet, a microSD slot and USB-C power input with a minimum 3A requirement. The manufacturer recommends Raspberry Pi OS for normal use. See the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B specifications.

These are hardware specifications, not a tested 24/7 streaming recipe. They do not establish a working encoder application, stream bitrate, keyframe interval, automatic restart method, required internet speed, archive behavior or uninterrupted uptime. The 1080p30 figure is an encode capability listing, not a benchmark of a particular streaming workload. Treat the Pi as one component in a setup whose continuity also depends on software, power, local network and internet service, YouTube availability and monitoring.

Prepare the Raspberry Pi and YouTube channel

Hardware and operating system

  • Use a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, a USB-C supply meeting the manufacturer’s stated minimum 3A input requirement, and a microSD card for the operating system and files.
  • Install Raspberry Pi OS, the operating system Raspberry Pi recommends for normal use, and keep the Pi on a stable surface with access for monitoring.
  • For a fixed installation, Ethernet is a sensible connection to consider because the Pi has Gigabit Ethernet. The specification does not guarantee that Ethernet prevents dropouts or prescribe a minimum internet speed.
  • Keep source audio and video files in a location the streaming software can read, and retain a separate copy of important files. The cited hardware specifications do not state storage capacity or a safe card size for a particular playlist.

Channel and stream key

Set up the channel’s live-streaming access in YouTube Studio and obtain its stream key through YouTube’s live-control workflow. The exact eligibility conditions, interface labels and key-management steps can change, and the cited sources do not establish them; follow the current instructions shown in your own YouTube Studio account. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or place it in a script or configuration that others can read. If it is exposed, replace it through the channel’s live-stream controls.

Configure and test the stream before leaving it unattended

The available manufacturer and YouTube sources do not verify a particular Raspberry Pi encoder, command, bitrate, resolution setting or restart service. Do not copy an unverified command and assume it is suitable for a 24-hour broadcast. Choose streaming software with current documentation for Raspberry Pi OS and YouTube RTMP ingest, then follow that software’s instructions for selecting the media, entering the stream key securely and setting output parameters.

Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (2GB)
  • Broadcom BCM2711, Quad core Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit SoC @ 1.5GHz
  • 1GB, 2GB, 4GB or 8GB LPDDR4-3200 SDRAM (depending on model)
  • 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz IEEE 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, BLE Gigabit Ethernet
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports; 2 USB 2.0 ports.
  • Raspberry Pi standard 40 pin GPIO header (fully backwards compatible with previous boards)
  1. Test rights and files first. Confirm that each track is covered by the permissions you obtained, that the playlist plays locally as intended, and that its audio is present and ordered correctly.
  2. Match the output to the capability and your source. The Pi 4 specification lists H.264 1080p30 encoding. Do not infer a reliable bitrate or higher output mode from that figure; use the encoder’s documented settings and test the actual setup.
  3. Connect the encoder to YouTube. Use the current YouTube Studio live controls and the encoder’s supported workflow. Keep the stream key private and verify that the encoder reports a connected stream before relying on it.
  4. Run a supervised trial. Check picture, sound, playback order and YouTube’s live status. A short successful test cannot prove continuous operation, so observe the system and review platform warnings before extending the run.
  5. Plan for interruption. Decide who will notice a stopped stream and how they will restore it. The cited sources do not establish an automatic recovery setup for a Pi, so do not assume the encoder restarts itself after a software, power or network failure.

Monitor common failure points

  • YouTube interrupts or ends the broadcast: check YouTube’s live warning and copyright information. A rights match may require removing the material; a licensed track may still need channel allowlisting by the rights owner.
  • The encoder cannot connect: verify that the stream key is current and entered in the correct field, that the channel’s live controls are ready, and that the Pi has network access. Do not expose the key while troubleshooting.
  • Playback stops or skips: check whether the source file remains accessible and whether the encoder’s playlist or looping behavior is documented and enabled. The Pi specification does not promise a particular playlist function.
  • The stream disappears after a power or internet interruption: restore power or connectivity and inspect the encoder and YouTube live status. A recovery mechanism is software-specific and is not established by the hardware specification.
  • The stream works briefly but not unattended: a short test does not verify a 24/7 run. Continue monitoring the actual installation and treat long-term stability as unproven until your own operating conditions demonstrate it.

Or let it run in the cloud

If maintaining a Pi, its power and home internet connection is not the right fit, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping uploaded video live on YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube.

  • Nothing has to stay powered on at home to keep the stream running.
  • Your uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
  • StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card required (one free day per account).

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start your free StreamNeo day.
