A Synology NAS can store and organize your Indian music, but Synology’s documented Audio Station features do not establish a direct, continuous music-to-YouTube broadcast. To run a 24/7 stream, you need a separate encoder or hosted service that turns the playlist into an audiovisual stream and sends it to YouTube. The NAS can be the library; it is not, on the evidence available, a verified turnkey YouTube radio encoder.
What a Synology NAS can—and cannot—do for a YouTube music stream
Use Audio Station for the library
Synology describes Audio Station as a way to organize a music library, create playlists, and play or stream music to browsers and supported devices. That makes it useful for managing the audio files, but it does not establish that Audio Station itself can publish a continuous music program to YouTube. See Synology’s Audio Station technical specifications for DSM 7.4.

Do not mistake the camera broadcast feature for a music encoder
Synology documents a YouTube Live Broadcast feature in Surveillance Station for live camera streams, with H.264 support. It is a camera-feed feature, not evidence of an Audio Station playlist being encoded and broadcast as a music stream. Synology’s Surveillance Station technical specifications for DSM 7.4 describe that feature. An older Surveillance Station 8.2 user guide shows a camera-based setup using a YouTube RTMP path and stream key; it should not be treated as current instructions for music broadcasting.

Accordingly, there is no verified current Synology package or exact DSM walkthrough established here for reliably publishing a music playlist to YouTube and resuming after a restart or network interruption. The steps below describe the system you need to assemble and validate, not a claim that a particular NAS model or third-party encoder has been tested for this job.

Plan the complete stream before you configure it
A continuous broadcast needs more than audio files. It needs a source playlist, a component that encodes or packages that source as a YouTube-compatible audiovisual stream, an upload path, and a way to recover when a component fails.
| Part | What it does | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Synology NAS | Stores and organizes the properly licensed audio and any accompanying visuals. | That your chosen encoder can safely and consistently access the files on your exact NAS and DSM release. |
| Encoder or hosted service | Reads the playlist, creates the audiovisual output, and publishes it to YouTube. | Playlist looping, supported media formats, output compatibility, restart behavior, and recovery after network loss. These details depend on the product you select. |
| YouTube live event | Receives the incoming stream using its ingest credentials. | That the event is configured as intended and that the encoder is using the matching stream credentials. |
| Network and power | Keep a local NAS and encoder reachable and able to upload continuously. | Upload stability, power continuity, and what happens after a router, ISP, NAS, or encoder restart. |
If you use a container on a compatible Synology system, note that Synology’s support documentation refers to Container Manager replacing Docker for container management starting with DSM 7.2. That package-name change does not confirm that a particular third-party encoder image works on your NAS. See Synology’s Container Manager support documentation and check the encoder developer’s compatibility and recovery documentation for your exact setup.
Set up the NAS-to-YouTube workflow
1. Organize music and visuals you are authorized to broadcast
Keep the intended tracks in a dedicated library or playlist, and make sure the encoder can read those files without relying on an undocumented Audio Station-to-YouTube connection. If your stream includes a still image, album art, lyrics, or video, clear the rights for those visuals as well as the audio. Keep a record of the licenses and permissions that cover the intended channel, territory, and use.

2. Choose an encoder or hosted service that explicitly supports your workflow
Before installing anything, confirm that it can read the NAS files, play a continuous playlist, create a valid video stream with the audio, and publish to YouTube. Ask specifically how it resumes after a NAS reboot, encoder restart, or internet outage; whether it reconnects automatically; and whether playback resumes at the expected point. Do not infer those capabilities from a product name, a container image, or Synology’s camera-broadcast documentation.
If a local encoder needs access to NAS files over the network, give it only the access it needs. Avoid exposing NAS file shares or management interfaces directly to the public internet just to make the playlist reachable. The secure connection method depends on the encoder and your network; follow their documented setup rather than opening arbitrary ports.
3. Create the YouTube live event and connect its credentials
In YouTube’s live-streaming tools, create or select the event you intend to keep running, then use the ingest details YouTube provides in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. The exact controls depend on YouTube’s current interface and the chosen encoder. Match the event and encoder settings, and test with an unlisted stream before making it public.

Treat the stream key as a password: enter it only in the intended encoder, do not publish it in screenshots or logs, and replace it in YouTube if it is exposed. A person with the key may be able to send a stream to your channel.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors4. Configure the playlist and output using the encoder’s documentation
Set the playlist to repeat, select the intended video and audio sources, and configure output settings supported by both the encoder and YouTube. The available evidence does not establish a current Synology music encoder or a tested bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval for this workflow, so use the values documented by YouTube and the encoder you select rather than copying camera-stream settings or guessing.
Confirm that the output contains both picture and sound. A music stream still needs an audiovisual video signal; an audio-only playlist is not the same thing as a YouTube live video stream.

5. Test failure and recovery before calling it 24/7
Run a private or unlisted test long enough to check playlist transitions, audio continuity, picture, and the YouTube preview. Then test the failures you expect to happen: interrupt the encoder’s network path, restart the encoder, and restart the NAS if the encoder depends on it. Observe whether the stream reconnects, whether the playlist resumes, and whether YouTube continues the intended event. Do not assume automatic restart or uninterrupted delivery until you have confirmed it in your setup.
Decide separately whether you need YouTube to archive the broadcast. Archive behavior is a YouTube setting and account/workflow consideration; do not assume that a continuous stream will be saved in full. Verify the current options and limits in YouTube before relying on an archive.
Clear Indian music rights before going live
Owning a CD, buying a download, or having permission to play a track privately does not by itself establish that you may broadcast it on YouTube. You need the rights applicable to the recordings, compositions, lyrics, and any visuals, for the territories where the stream is available and for the way you intend to use it. This is particularly important for bhajans, kirtan, Gurbani, film songs, devotional recordings, and live or studio performances: traditional or devotional material may still involve protected arrangements, recordings, translations, or artwork.

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” The terms also require compliance with applicable laws and maintaining relevant licenses, registrations, consents, notifications, or approvals for the stream territory.
Even a license does not ensure that YouTube will leave the broadcast uninterrupted. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content; it may replace a stream with a placeholder, warn the operator, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Its guidance also says licensed third-party content can still be interrupted unless the rights holder adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams, and ask the rights holder about allowlisting where applicable.
Local encoder or cloud-hosted stream?
A local setup can keep the NAS as the media library and place the encoder in your home network. It also means you must keep the relevant equipment, power, internet connection, and recovery process working continuously. A hosted option moves the continuous playback and publishing workload off the home computer or NAS, but you still need to verify that the service fits your content, rights, and YouTube workflow.
| Consideration | Local NAS plus encoder | Hosted stream service |
|---|---|---|
| Media source | Can use NAS files if the selected encoder supports safe, reliable access to them. | Typically requires uploading the media to the service; check storage and supported formats. |
| Home equipment and connection | The local setup depends on its required devices, power, and upload path staying available. | Can avoid keeping a home encoder running; check the service’s own terms and operating details. |
| Compatibility and recovery | Must be verified for the exact NAS, DSM version, encoder, and network. | Confirm playlist behavior and what happens if YouTube disconnects the stream. |
| Cost and conditions | Depends on hardware, power, internet, and any encoder costs; calculate for your situation. | Depends on the provider’s current plan and terms. |
