You can keep homeschool lessons available on YouTube around the clock, but do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast if you need a complete YouTube archive: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use verified channel access, choose a webcam or encoder workflow, plan session boundaries and local recordings, set the audience classification accurately, and clear the rights to every lesson asset.
Choose a format for the lessons

Choose based on whether a teacher needs to be on camera and how you will handle interruptions and recordings.

Check that the channel can go live

Verify the YouTube channel and confirm that live streaming is enabled. YouTube says channels need verification and no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days to livestream. Its setup guidance also states a minimum age of 16 to livestream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Check for restrictions before scheduling the lessons. Resolve any eligibility issue through YouTube rather than building a schedule around a channel that cannot start a stream.

Decide whether you will teach live on camera or feed slides and prepared material through an encoder. For an encoder workflow, open YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and use the stream URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key as a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Plan sessions and recordings before attempting 24/7 coverage
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams that are under 12 hours; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. That makes a single day-long session a poor choice when the YouTube replay matters. Plan shorter sessions with deliberate restart boundaries and keep a local recording backup if you need a complete archive. The guidance does not guarantee that a particular restart arrangement will be uninterrupted.
Before each session, test the encoder and inspect the preview. During the broadcast, monitor picture and sound and check that local recording files continue to grow. Set the audience and protect children
Every creator must accurately tell YouTube whether content is made for kids. A family-friendly subject or the fact that lessons are intended for homeschoolers does not by itself determine the setting. Set the audience in Live Control Room and do not rely on automated detection to make the decision. YouTube restricts or disables features including live chat, comments, notifications, and personalized ads for content designated as made for kids. Read YouTube’s audience-setting guidance and how it determines whether content is made for kids.
If minors appear on the stream, follow YouTube’s adult-presence requirements. Protect personal information, consider turning chat off or assigning a trusted adult moderator, and review the platform’s live-stream restriction and safety guidance. YouTube’s current guidance says people under 16 need an adult to be visibly present in the live stream.
Clear rights to every lesson asset
Use original or properly licensed lesson materials, music, images, and video. Educational purpose alone does not establish permission to broadcast someone else’s work. YouTube’s livestream terms require content providers to have the necessary rights, including applicable music rights, and to comply with relevant laws. Homeschool attendance, curriculum, recordkeeping, and teacher-qualification rules depend on location; check the relevant education authority for your jurisdiction.

Troubleshoot common problems

Live streaming is unavailable: verify the channel, check the 90-day restriction eligibility, and confirm the channel meets the minimum-age rules before troubleshooting the encoder.

The stream does not appear in the encoder: verify that the selected YouTube stream URL and key match the scheduled stream. If the key may have been disclosed, reset it and update the encoder.

A stream is restricted or interrupted: review the platform’s safety rules, adult-presence requirements, and the rights for all music and lesson materials. Test before the session and monitor the stream while it runs.
