The steps below cover the YouTube-side setup and the settings that matter; they do not assume an unverified Ubuntu installation command or promise that a desktop computer will run unattended without interruption.
Before you set up the Ubuntu stream
Check that the channel is eligible before preparing the broadcast. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, and YouTube says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

- Enable live streaming well ahead of your intended start time.
- Confirm that the channel has no current restriction that prevents live streaming.
- Prepare the bhajan recordings and verify the rights for each one before scheduling or starting the broadcast.
- Choose an encoder that runs on your Ubuntu release and follow its current installation instructions. The YouTube guidance below covers ingest settings, not Ubuntu package commands or a verified Ubuntu-specific encoder setup.
Choose the 24/7 method that fits your needs
With a local Ubuntu setup, the computer and its internet connection are part of the broadcast chain: if either stops working, the stream can be interrupted. If replay availability is important, consider separate shorter broadcasts rather than assuming one uninterrupted day-long transmission will produce one complete archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited guidance does not promise the same result for a stream that exceeds 12 hours. See YouTube’s encoder help.

Set up the encoder and YouTube Live
1. Create the live event and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a live stream. Select the intended visibility and event details in the current Live Control Room.
- Choose an encoder workflow in YouTube’s Live Control Room and copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube explains that encoder software or hardware sends the feed using those details in its encoder setup guidance.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not include it in a public description, screenshot, shared configuration file or support post. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
2. Match the encoder settings to YouTube’s ingest guidance
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported video codec options for RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval of about two seconds (not more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Use the bitrate recommendation for your exact codec, resolution and frame rate rather than treating one number as suitable for every stream. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

These figures are YouTube’s stated H.264 recommendations; check its current table for other resolutions, frame rates and codecs. A higher-resolution or higher-frame-rate feed needs a bitrate appropriate to that setting and sufficient upload capacity.
3. Choose practical bhajan audio and video settings
For a music stream, listen to the encoder preview and the live event, not just the desktop playback. Check that the audio is present, at a consistent level and in sync with the video. Use a video resolution and frame rate your Ubuntu computer can encode steadily and your upload connection can sustain. A static devotional image paired with a recording may use less visual motion than a live camera scene, but it does not remove the need to configure the codec, bitrate, keyframes and audio format correctly.

Before going live, make a short private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel workflow. Confirm the picture, sound and event visibility from another device or browser. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend setting up the encoder in advance, checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring audio and video, and verifying that viewers can access the stream.
Make the Ubuntu connection reliable enough
YouTube recommends available upload bandwidth that exceeds the stream’s total bitrate by 20%. For example, if the configured video and audio together use 5 Mbps, target at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions in which you will stream. This is headroom, not a guarantee: shared connections may leave less bandwidth available, and YouTube warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Measure upload performance at the Ubuntu computer’s actual streaming location and at a time representative of normal household or office use.
- Where practical, use a wired network connection and avoid transferring large files or running other bandwidth-heavy tasks during the broadcast. A wired connection is a practical precaution, not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee against interruption.
- Keep the encoder and Live Control Room visible or check them regularly. Watch stream health and confirm the event remains playable from a separate device.
- If you have a backup encoder, test the failover process before depending on it. YouTube’s operational guidance recommends testing a backup encoder when one is used.
Clear rights for every bhajan recording
A bhajan’s traditional or devotional subject does not by itself make a particular recording free to stream. The sound recording, performance, arrangement and composition may involve different rights holders. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights to use live and archived content on Google services worldwide, including applicable rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and other royalty participants. Read the YouTube Terms of Service and confirm that your actual license covers livestreaming and any archive you intend to keep.
YouTube also identifies an active live-stream copyright strike and matching another copyrighted live broadcast among reasons live-streaming access may be restricted. Check the rights for every track before broadcast; owning a copy of a recording is not, by itself, proof that you have permission to stream it.

Plan for replays and long-running broadcasts
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is longer than that stated threshold, so do not promise viewers a single complete replay based on the automatic-archive guidance. If replay access matters, plan separate broadcasts that remain under 12 hours or use a separate recording and publishing workflow. For a long-running channel, set expectations in the stream description about whether viewers should expect live listening, archived sessions or both.
