First confirm your channel can livestream, clear rights for every asset, and test the full broadcast. One important limit: YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all, so plan shorter sessions if you need YouTube replays.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and an account holder who is at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A prepared playlist of lessons, revision videos, slides, or other exam-preparation material.
- A way to send the playlist to YouTube Live: a local encoder running on a computer, or a hosted playlist service.
- Permission to livestream each video, image, photograph, music track, and embedded clip in the playlist.
- A monitoring and backup plan, especially if the broadcast needs to stay live while you are away.
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow provides a stream URL and stream key in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder in advance, checking the preview, verifying playback on devices, testing backup behavior, and monitoring the feed. Its guidance does not specify a minimum computer specification or endorse a particular model. See Manage live stream settings and YouTube live streaming tips.

How to run the playlist with your own computer
1. Confirm channel eligibility and create the live stream
- Verify the YouTube channel and enable live streaming. Check that the channel has no live-stream restrictions from the previous 90 days and that the person livestreaming meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or schedule the stream and choose the encoder workflow.
- In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key for your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, put it in a public document, or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Live Control Room before continuing.
Do not use another channel to get around an active livestream restriction. YouTube’s current eligibility requirements are described in Get started with live streaming.

2. Build the playlist and document its rights
Make a complete asset list before putting the stream on air. Include lesson recordings, slides, graphics, photographs, background music, and clips embedded inside other videos. For each item, note who owns it, what permission or licence covers it, whether that permission includes livestreaming and the intended territories, and any attribution the licence requires.

A video being publicly viewable on YouTube does not by itself give you permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services and to comply with applicable laws and regulations in the stream territory. The rules that apply in India can depend on the content and the broadcaster’s circumstances; the cited platform guidance does not establish one universal permit for every exam-preparation playlist. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and obtain advice relevant to your particular content if needed.
If a rights holder has licensed material for your use but Content ID may identify it, ask the holder to allowlist your channel before broadcasting. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and says a licensed track may still lead to interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Details are in Copyright issues with live streams.

3. Set up the encoder and send the playlist
- Open your chosen encoder and configure its source to play the prepared videos or playlist in the intended order. Exact controls vary by encoder, so use its documentation for playlist looping and playback behavior.
- Enter the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room in the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Keep the key private.
- Start the encoder and wait for Live Control Room to show the incoming feed and preview. Do not assume the stream is public merely because the encoder says it is connected; confirm the status and visibility settings in Live Control Room.
- Start the broadcast from Live Control Room when the preview is correct. Check the public watch page from a separate device or browser to confirm viewers can access it.
YouTube’s cited setup material confirms the encoder and key workflow, but does not prescribe universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe values for every encoder and source. Use the current YouTube guidance and your encoder’s documentation for the output format supported by your source and connection rather than guessing a setting.
4. Test playback, monitoring, and recovery
- Preview the feed in Live Control Room before starting and check that image and audio are present and in sync.
- Test playback on a phone and another device, using the actual watch page and viewer access you intend to use.
- Let the playlist run long enough to confirm that it advances and loops as expected. Check for silent gaps, black frames, clipped lessons, or unexpected pauses between files.
- Test what happens if the computer or connection disconnects, and decide who will notice and restart the feed. YouTube advises testing backup behavior and monitoring stream quality; it does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery.
- Keep a local recording if preserving the broadcast matters. A YouTube archive is not a substitute for a recording you control.
Plan the schedule around YouTube replays
Continuous broadcasting and saving a replay are separate outcomes. YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream that is shorter than 12 hours, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not count on YouTube saving only the final 12 hours of a longer broadcast. The current threshold is explained in Archive live streams.

If viewers need a YouTube replay of each study session, end and restart the broadcast with a comfortable margin below 12 hours rather than leaving one stream running across the boundary. This is a practical scheduling recommendation, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will archive successfully. Check YouTube Studio after each session and retain local recordings for important lessons.
Choose between a local encoder and hosted playout
| Consideration | Local encoder | Hosted playlist playout |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the stream | Your computer and encoder send the playlist to YouTube. | A vendor says it can play an uploaded playlist without your computer staying online; verify the service’s current capabilities and terms. |
| What you must manage | Computer, connection, encoder setup, monitoring, and recovery. | Vendor account, uploaded files, stream-key handling, storage, service limits, and support. |
| Recovery and oversight | You can manage recovery directly, but someone needs to notice a failure and act. | Confirm the vendor’s recovery behavior and support arrangements before relying on it for continuous broadcasting. |
| Replay planning | Schedule separate streams below YouTube’s 12-hour archive boundary when replays matter. | The same YouTube archive limit applies; hosting the playout does not change YouTube’s recording behavior. |
| Rights and monetization | You remain responsible for rights and the originality of the playlist. | You remain responsible for rights and the originality of the playlist. |
A hosted service can reduce the need to keep a local encoder running, but it introduces a vendor dependency. One such service, Looping Stream, advertises hosted playlist playout. Treat that as a vendor claim, not an independent reliability finding; verify present pricing, storage, India availability, stream-key handling, support, limits, and restart behavior directly before choosing it.

Understand copyright and monetization separately
Copyright applies to every part of the feed
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A claim can interrupt a stream or affect its archive, so a playlist made from study clips, music, or images found online is not automatically safe to rebroadcast. Clear the use of each asset and follow any licence conditions, including attribution and territory restrictions. If the content is licensed but likely to trigger Content ID, arrange channel allowlisting with the rights holder before going live. See YouTube’s live copyright guidance.
A live label does not make repetitive material monetizable
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams. Its policy page records a July 15, 2025 clarification renaming “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under the existing policy; the reused-content policy did not change in that update. Educational subject matter, a livestream format, or a long broadcast does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. Original teaching, explanation, curation, or interaction may help make the channel’s contribution clear, but only YouTube’s review can determine whether a particular channel qualifies. Read YouTube channel monetization policies.

Common problems and fixes
- Live Control Room receives no signal: Recheck that the encoder is using the current stream URL and key, that the encoder is running, and that the computer has an active connection. Replace an exposed key and update the encoder if necessary.
- The preview is blank or has no sound: Check the encoder’s selected video and audio sources, then play a short test and inspect it in Live Control Room before starting the public broadcast.
- The feed stops when nobody is watching the computer: A local setup depends on the computer, encoder, and connection remaining available. Test failure and restart procedures; if you do not want a computer to stay online, consider hosted cloud playout and verify its recovery behavior.
- YouTube interrupts the live stream: Check Live Control Room and YouTube Studio for copyright notices. Confirm rights for the flagged material and ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting where appropriate.
- No replay appears after a full-day broadcast: If the stream exceeded 12 hours, YouTube warns it may not have been captured at all. For future sessions, end and restart below the threshold and keep a local recording.
- The channel is not allowed to go live: Check verification, the age requirement, and whether a live-stream restriction occurred within the preceding 90 days. Do not evade a restriction by switching channels.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the content from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
- Every slot includes one always-on stream, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, support from the StreamNeo team, and 10 GB storage per slot pooled across your active slots.
- Your uploaded quality streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode and no quality tiers: one flat price per slot.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account. After that, plans are available by day, week, month, six months, or year, and can be cancelled any time. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.
- YouTube’s archive limit still applies: a hosted stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so use planned shorter sessions if YouTube replays matter.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
