How to Run a 24/7 Coding Tutorial Stream on YouTube From Prerecorded Lessons

Run prerecorded coding lessons as a YouTube Live stream with OBS or cloud playout, while planning for channel eligibility, copyright, monitoring, and archive limits.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can run prerecorded coding lessons as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast with OBS Studio: loop one video with a Media Source, or loop an ordered playlist with OBS’s VLC Video source. YouTube supplies the server URL and stream key; OBS sends the video feed. Before going live, confirm livestream eligibility, clear rights to every part of the recordings, and plan for monitoring, viewer navigation, and the limits of YouTube’s archive and DVR features.

Choose a local or cloud playout method

With local playout, OBS runs on your computer and sends the feed to YouTube. This gives you direct control over the media source and playlist, but continuous operation depends on the computer, its internet connection, and someone monitoring the stream.

For a cloud option, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a first day free. YouTube’s encoder setup page also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; that listing is not a comparison or endorsement, and does not establish its current terms, uptime, playlist controls, or price.

Check channel eligibility and prepare your lessons

Confirm that livestreaming is available

YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so check access well before your planned start. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and live-streaming tips.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Organize recordings for a useful broadcast

Choose whether the stream should repeat one lesson or rotate through a sequence. For a sequence, put lessons in the order viewers should encounter them. Use clear lesson titles and make sure the recording’s audio and video are suitable for a continuous broadcast. A 24/7 feed is not a substitute for separately published, individually navigable lesson videos.

Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube Live

  1. Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream, and copy its server URL and stream key. The exact labels can change; use the encoder stream details shown for your event.
  2. Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as the credential that lets the encoder send the feed, so treat it like a password. Do not share it or publish it in a tutorial.
  3. Configure OBS to send the feed. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if the available connection flow supports your setup, or use the custom server option to enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Follow the values displayed in Live Control Room.
  4. Add one looping lesson. In the OBS Sources panel, add a Media Source, select the lesson file, and enable Loop. Check that the source is visible in the preview and that its audio is reaching the OBS mixer.
  5. Or add a looping playlist. Add a VLC Video source, add the lesson files in the intended order, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS’s VLC playlist source requires VLC installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install the 64-bit version of VLC as well. OBS documents these source options at Media Sources.
  6. Preview before going public. Start the encoder feed and check it in Live Control Room before making the event public. Confirm the picture, lesson audio, and watch-page visibility. YouTube recommends preview checks and ongoing audio/video monitoring.
  7. Start the broadcast and monitor it. Use YouTube Studio’s controls to make the event live when ready. Keep an eye on both the encoder and Live Control Room, particularly after a lesson change or any network interruption.

Plan for viewer navigation and archived video

Viewers who arrive midway through a continuous coding stream may not know which lesson is playing. Link to separately uploaded lessons or a course playlist in the stream description, and identify the current lesson in on-screen text where practical. YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams; a continuous stream should not be treated as a dependable way to navigate back to an earlier lesson. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Plan retention separately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on a YouTube archive of a 24/7 broadcast as your only copy. Keep source recordings and make any needed local archive backup. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Clear rights before broadcasting prerecorded lessons

You need the rights to exploit all live content on Google services, including music rights and any relevant permissions from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights participants. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”

That applies to the whole recording, not just the code lesson: check music, graphics, slides, screen-recorded third-party material, and embedded media. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, the stream may still be interrupted unless the rights holder has allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Consult YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and resolve permissions before scheduling.

YouTube says creators in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize live streams, but that does not establish that a particular channel is eligible or that repetitive prerecorded programming will qualify under current monetization policy. Do not assume approval or income.

What to expect from a 24/7 operation

A local OBS setup is inexpensive in software terms, but it is not unattended: the computer and connection must remain available, and YouTube recommends continuous audio and video monitoring. A cloud encoder can remove the need to keep a local computer generating the feed, but compare current service details directly rather than assuming equivalent playlist controls, recovery behavior, pricing, or reliability.

For StreamNeo, each slot includes one always-on YouTube stream, uploaded video playback up to 4K 60fps without re-encoding or quality tiers, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. Troubleshoot common problems

  • You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
  • OBS is connected but YouTube does not show the feed: Compare the server URL and stream key in OBS with the values for the event in Live Control Room. Make sure the stream key has not been mistyped or changed.
  • The VLC playlist source is missing or fails to load: Install VLC. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check the source again.
  • A lesson repeats when you expected the next one: Check whether you added a single Media Source with Loop enabled rather than a VLC Video playlist with Loop Playlist enabled. Confirm the playlist contains the intended files and order.
  • The stream is interrupted or replaced with a placeholder: Check for third-party content matches and resolve rights or Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption.
  • The stream archive is missing or viewers cannot rewind far enough: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR rewind on very long streams may be limited or unavailable. Keep an independent recording and publish lessons separately for reliable navigation.
  • Audio or video degrades during the broadcast: Check the OBS preview and mixer as well as Live Control Room, and maintain active monitoring; a long-running feed needs operational oversight.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your lesson recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can be off while the cloud loops the uploaded videos. Every quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed as uploaded at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery can restart the feed if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
