The dependable path is to use audio and visuals you have the rights to stream, configure an encoder to send both the intended video and sound, preview the feed, and monitor it. A local setup needs a computer and internet connection to keep running; a cloud option can keep an uploaded video looping without leaving a computer on.
What a black-screen ambience stream involves
A black-screen stream sends video that appears black while fireplace or candle audio plays. The stream still needs a video signal as well as audio; the black picture is not a substitute for sending video. YouTube’s official materials explain encoder setup, stream health, copyright checks, and archive behavior, but do not prescribe how to configure an OBS scene to preserve audio while showing black. Treat the scene configuration as something to test, not as a YouTube-verified recipe.

Do not use a black screen to misrepresent what is being broadcast. Make the title and description clear about the audio and visual experience, and check the actual incoming feed in YouTube Studio and as a viewer before sharing it.
How to run a 24/7 fireplace or candle stream on YouTube
1. Check that live streaming is enabled
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. Confirm eligibility and enable live streaming before planning a launch time. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

2. Use material you have the right to broadcast
Clear the rights to both the sound and any video. If using stock footage or audio, check that its license explicitly permits livestreaming or broadcast use; permission to download or use a file in a personal project does not necessarily cover a public live broadcast.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and resolve rights or allowlisting issues with the rights holder before going live.

3. Create the broadcast and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder-based live stream and open the stream setup details.
- In your encoder, enter the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube. The key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it, so treat it like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming stream preview in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Verify the picture is black as intended and that the fireplace or candle audio is audible before starting the public broadcast.

4. Configure a stable encoder output
YouTube currently recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Its H.264 recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that your computer or home upload connection can sustain the stream. YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 options; choose settings supported by your encoder and the workflow you are using. Consult the current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide rather than assuming every encoder exposes the same controls.

Match the output to the real upload capacity available for the entire run. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom; other people or devices using the connection, congestion, or interruptions can reduce available capacity. Check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate and YouTube’s stream health, then reduce bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the selected profile. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
5. Test the black picture and sound as a viewer
Before a long broadcast, run a short private or unlisted test if appropriate for your channel. Check that the audio is present, the video is actually black rather than missing or frozen, and levels are not distorted or silent. Review the stream on another device or browser, not only in the encoder preview. Keep an eye on Live Control Room status and stream health messages during the broadcast; a successful preview does not prove that a long session or shared network will remain stable.

Can a fireplace stream run overnight?
Yes, an overnight broadcast is possible if the encoder, computer or hosting service, and internet connection keep operating. With a local encoder, the computer must remain powered on and connected, and sleep settings, updates, overheating, software crashes, or network loss can stop the stream. Test the full chain before relying on it overnight and monitor stream health when possible.
For a long-running stream, know how you will detect a dropout and restart it. YouTube’s stream status messages can help identify issues, but the official guidance does not promise that a local encoder will recover automatically after every failure.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 live stream?
Do not rely on YouTube to retain an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast as a complete replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the recording matters, record locally where practical, verify that the recording is complete, or plan separate broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and check the current YouTube workflow before relying on transitions. Common problems and fixes
- No preview or stream rejected: Check that live streaming is enabled, the stream URL and key match the current YouTube setup, and the encoder is actually sending. Regenerate an exposed key rather than continuing to use it.
- Audio is missing while the picture is black: Verify the encoder’s audio source and meters, then listen to the YouTube preview and a viewer-side playback. The exact black-screen scene method is not specified in YouTube’s official encoder guidance, so test the configuration rather than assuming it preserves audio.
- Buffering, dropped frames, or unstable health: Check the actual upload capacity during the stream, stop competing uploads, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and lower the bitrate or output resolution if needed.
- Copyright interruption or placeholder: Identify the matched audio or video, confirm broadcast rights, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. A license does not itself guarantee that automated matching will not interrupt a stream.
- No replay after a long session: A broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Use local recording or shorter sessions if a replay is important.
