You can use a Linux VPS as an always-on host for an FFmpeg process that sends a cooking video to YouTube Live. For prerecorded ASMR, the file needs to be paced as live output; YouTube then receives it through its third-party encoder workflow. This can keep the process running without leaving a home computer on, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability: the VPS, network route, encoder, or YouTube can still interrupt the broadcast.
First decide whether you mean genuinely live cooking or a loop of a recording you own. The steps below focus on the latter, because a VPS can play a media file continuously; it does not make prerecorded footage genuinely live.

Choose what the channel will broadcast
Genuinely live cooking
If you want viewers to hear cooking as it happens, you need a live camera and audio capture workflow. A VPS-based file loop is not a substitute for that: it sends a recording, not a live camera feed.
A prerecorded recording you created
For a continuous ambient stream, record original cooking footage and sound, then use the VPS to send that file as a live broadcast. Make your authorship clear through the recording, channel description, title, and stream description. Calling a loop “ASMR” or marking a prerecorded stream as live does not by itself make the material original or eligible for monetization.

YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 clarification describes repetitive or mass-produced material under its “inauthentic content” policy; reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. A license does not by itself establish that your channel adds original value or will qualify for monetization.
Prepare the recording and VPS
Check rights and prepare a suitable source file
- Use video and audio you made or are entitled to use. For this niche, original close-up footage and cooking sounds make the creator’s contribution more apparent.
- Review the full file before scheduling it: check that the sound is audible, the picture is correct, and there are no accidental gaps, private information, or material you do not have rights to broadcast.
- Decide whether to loop one recording or build a playlist. A playlist can add variety, but repeated or mass-produced material can still raise monetization concerns.
Size an India VPS for your actual workflow
No particular Indian VPS vendor, plan price, CPU requirement, or bandwidth allowance is established here. Choose a provider only after checking the terms and resources for your own output profile. Ask whether sustained outbound video is allowed and how egress is billed; check the data-center location, sustained egress allowance, CPU headroom if you transcode, disk for source media and logs, reboot and recovery controls, and support availability. Route quality to YouTube’s ingest service can vary, so verify the stream from your own VPS rather than assuming a location guarantees a stable connection.
Streaming a compatible file without transcoding can reduce compute demand compared with re-encoding, but compatibility depends on the file and the current YouTube encoder guidance. Transcoding adds CPU demand. There is no supported universal bitrate, resolution, or VPS specification for every file and channel, so do not select a plan based on an unverified one-size-fits-all number.

Enable YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and start the live setup flow. Follow the current live-stream setup for a third-party encoder. Account or channel state can affect access, so confirm that Studio lets you set up a live stream before configuring the VPS. YouTube Help’s “Get started with live streaming” and “Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming” explain the relevant setup and access considerations.
- Select or create the stream configuration in Studio. Use the ingest details Studio provides for the encoder workflow. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API reference describes RTMPS as the primary ingestion URL for RTMPS use; follow the endpoint and settings shown for your stream rather than assuming a saved endpoint is current.
- Copy the stream key privately to the VPS. Treat it like a password. Do not put it in a public script, repository, terminal screenshot, or support post. Restrict access to any file or environment setting where you store it. If you believe it has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
- Check Studio’s stream preview and status before relying on a continuous broadcast. Confirm that YouTube is receiving the intended video and audio, then use Studio to start or manage the broadcast according to its current workflow.
Configure FFmpeg to send a file as live output
FFmpeg can read a media file at its native rate rather than racing through it. Its documentation says -re is equivalent to -readrate 1 and describes the option as mainly used to simulate a capture device or live input when reading from a file. That pacing is relevant to a prerecorded file sent as a live stream. The same documentation cautions against applying a low read rate to an actual capture or live input because it can cause packet loss.
There is no verified end-to-end FFmpeg command here for your particular Linux distribution, FFmpeg build, source file, and YouTube configuration. Do not paste a generic command into production on the assumption that its options, audio/video mapping, or reconnect behavior fit your setup. Check the installed FFmpeg version and its option help, compare the chosen output settings with YouTube’s current encoder guidance, and validate the file and stream in a controlled test before scheduling a long broadcast.
Decide whether to copy or transcode
- Stream-copy approach: avoids re-encoding when the source is compatible with the intended ingest settings; it does not fix an incompatible source.
- Transcoding approach: can adapt a source to the chosen output profile, but consumes VPS CPU. Measure the VPS during a test instead of assuming a given plan can handle it.
FFmpeg pacing is only one part of continuity. File looping or playlist rotation, restarting a failed process, reconnect behavior, health checks, and alerts are separate operational choices. The cited FFmpeg documentation does not certify a single 24/7 recipe, and neither a running process nor a VPS plan guarantees that YouTube will remain connected.

Run, monitor, and recover the broadcast
- Test a short broadcast first. Confirm video, cooking sounds, stream status in Studio, and playback from a separate viewer session. Check for audio/video sync problems and unexpected silence before leaving the setup unattended.
- Keep the encoder under process supervision. Configure your Linux service manager or another process supervisor to start the encoder after reboot and restart it if it exits. A restart policy can recover a process failure; it does not prove that the next connection will succeed.
- Monitor both the VPS and YouTube Studio. Watch for encoder exit, disk exhaustion, CPU pressure if transcoding, network interruption, and YouTube warnings. Add an alert path you will actually notice; unattended does not mean unmonitored.
- Plan a recovery procedure. Know how to inspect service logs, confirm the source file is still available, restart the encoder, and check Studio’s ingest status. If the stream key was exposed, rotate it rather than merely restarting with the old key.
Check copyright, live-stream rules, and monetization separately
Copyright can interrupt an otherwise healthy stream
YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content, including another live broadcast. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream, a warning, interruption, or termination if the issue is unresolved. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. See YouTube Help’s “Copyright issues with live streams.”
Originality and permission are different tests
Copyright permission concerns whether you may use the material. Monetization review also considers whether the channel adds original value. YouTube’s monetization policies cover livestreams, and reused-content review is not resolved merely by holding a license. Make your own production and contribution clear, and do not assume a long loop will pass channel review.
Archiving matters for the watch-hour rule
YouTube’s published qualified-watch-hours guidance says public long-form videos and archived livestreams can count toward qualified public watch hours; livestreams that are not archived are excluded under that rule. This is only one part of YouTube Partner Program eligibility, not a promise of acceptance or a complete checklist. The guidance is explained in YouTube’s official blog post “What counts as qualified watch hours and views for YouTube monetization.”

Choose archive and continuity settings for your use case
- Archive the broadcast if you want a public replay and want the stream to be potentially included under YouTube’s archived-livestream watch-hour rule. Set expectations around storage and replay management in your channel workflow.
- Do not assume a continuous schedule is an official 24/7 mode. The available documentation does not establish a guaranteed 24/7 service or uninterrupted maximum duration. Treat it as an encoder and operations setup that needs monitoring and recovery.
- Decide how much interruption risk you can accept. A nonstop ambient channel may need active moderation, a way to handle rights claims, and a practical maintenance window for source-file or configuration updates.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely area to inspect | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio shows no incoming stream | Ingest endpoint, stream key, encoder process, or outbound network | Confirm the VPS process is running, re-check the current Studio ingest details, verify the key was copied correctly and privately, and inspect service logs and outbound connectivity. |
| The stream starts, then drops | VPS interruption, route instability, encoder exit, or YouTube interruption | Check VPS and encoder logs alongside Studio status. Configure process recovery and alerts, but do not treat automatic restarts as a guarantee of uninterrupted output. |
| Video or sound is missing or wrong | Source file, stream mapping, or output compatibility | Play the source file locally, inspect its audio and video streams, and validate FFmpeg’s mapping and output settings against the installed build and YouTube encoder guidance. |
| FFmpeg runs through the file too quickly | File input pacing | Check that file input is paced for live output; FFmpeg documents -re as equivalent to -readrate 1 for this use case. |
| CPU stays high or the VPS becomes unstable | Transcoding load or insufficient resources | Check whether the workflow is re-encoding, measure CPU and memory during a test, and reassess the plan or output approach. No specific minimum VPS size is established for every profile. |
| A warning, placeholder, or termination appears despite a working encoder | Third-party content or live-stream access restrictions | Read the Studio notice, review YouTube’s copyright and live restriction guidance, and resolve rights or account-access issues. A healthy FFmpeg process cannot override a YouTube policy action. |
| The livestream does not appear to add eligible watch hours | Archive status or other YPP criteria | Check whether the livestream was archived and public, then consult YouTube’s full eligibility requirements. The archive rule alone does not establish YPP eligibility. |
