On a Galaxy phone, the right control depends on what you want to hear: use Media or Media output to switch the current media to one device, Separate app sound to send selected app audio to a different output, or Dual Audio to play the same media on two Bluetooth devices when your model supports it. Menu names and feature availability vary by model, software version, and region.
Choose the routing option that matches your goal

Before you route audio
- Pair your Bluetooth headphones or speaker and make sure it is connected. A device may not appear as an option for Separate app sound until it is connected.
- Start the media you want to hear so the phone has an active playback session.
- If a setting or label described here is missing, check your Galaxy phone’s Settings and current Samsung support information. Samsung notes that screens, menus, and feature availability can vary by model, software version, and region.
Switch current media to Bluetooth headphones or a speaker
- Connect the headphones or speaker to your Galaxy phone over Bluetooth.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick Panel. Swipe down again to expand it if needed.
- Tap Media or Media output. The exact label and panel layout vary across Galaxy software.
- In the output list, select the connected headphones or speaker. Select the phone if you want playback to return to its speaker.
This control changes where the current media plays. If you cannot find the button in the expanded Quick Panel, check the panel’s edit or settings options; its placement can differ by software version. Samsung describes selecting an output through the Media panel in its Galaxy media and devices instructions.

Route one app separately with Separate app sound
Use Separate app sound when you want an app’s media to go to an output other than the phone’s main audio output—for example, music on a Bluetooth speaker while other phone audio stays on the phone.

- Connect the Bluetooth headphones or speaker you want to use.
- Open Settings and search for Separate app sound. If you prefer to browse, look under Sounds and vibration; menu paths can vary.
- Turn on Separate app sound, then choose the app or apps to route.
- Choose Phone or the connected Bluetooth device as the output, then return to the app and check playback.
The Bluetooth choice may not appear until a Bluetooth device is connected. Samsung Support states: “Separate app sound only works when the audio device selected is different from your device’s main audio output device.” The feature assigns selected app media; it should not be treated as a control for redirecting every system sound. Play the same media on two Bluetooth devices
If your Galaxy phone exposes the option, Dual Audio can send the same media to two connected Bluetooth devices, such as two sets of Bluetooth headphones or a speaker and headphones. This mirrors one playback stream; it is not a way to send different apps to different Bluetooth outputs.
- Pair and connect both Bluetooth devices to the phone.
- Open the Quick Panel and tap Media or Media output.
- Select both devices if the panel offers multiple outputs. Adjust their volumes using the controls shown on your phone.
The option is not available on every Galaxy model or software version, so do not assume that seeing one Bluetooth device means a second can be selected. Samsung’s Dual Audio instructions describe simultaneous playback but make availability model-dependent.

What if you want different apps on two Bluetooth devices?
Samsung’s reviewed instructions describe Separate app sound as routing selected apps to an output different from the main output, and Dual Audio as sending the same media to multiple Bluetooth devices. They do not establish that a Galaxy phone can route different apps to two separate Bluetooth outputs at the same time. If that is your goal, check the controls and compatibility information for your specific phone rather than assuming Dual Audio provides independent app streams.

- Bluetooth device is not listed: Confirm it is paired and connected, then reopen the output control. This is especially important for Separate app sound.
- Media control is not visible: Expand the Quick Panel and check its edit or panel settings. Samsung menu wording and placement vary.
- Separate app sound is absent: Search for it in Settings; availability and menu paths vary by model, software version, and region. Check current support information for your phone.
- Second device cannot be selected: Multiple-output playback is model- and software-dependent. Samsung’s documentation does not establish a complete globally applicable list of compatible Galaxy phones.
