To rotate prerecorded videos without ending a YouTube Live broadcast, keep one encoder or hosted playout service sending a continuous feed to the same live stream while its playlist advances. The video can change; the outgoing feed must keep running. Playlist rotation is configured in the encoder or playout service—not through a universal YouTube playlist control.
What must keep running
YouTube Live receives an encoded feed from an encoder. The encoder or hosted playout layer decides which prerecorded video is playing and when to advance to the next one. To keep the broadcast active, change the media source or queue without stopping the encoder or ending the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover connecting and starting a stream; they do not describe a universal playlist scheduler.

A YouTube watch-page playlist is not automatically the playlist being broadcast live. Configure rotation in the software or service that supplies the live feed, and confirm its instructions for advancing between files.

Set up a continuous video rotation
- Choose where playout runs. Use a local encoder with media-playlist support, or a hosted playout service that explicitly supports continuous playlist playback. With a local setup, the computer, encoder and network must stay available. A hosted service may run playout remotely; check its current features, limits, recovery behavior, data handling and cost rather than assuming they are equivalent.
- Prepare the videos. Add the recordings to the encoder’s media source or playlist and set the order and repeat behavior there. Confirm that you have the rights needed to stream each video.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream, then copy its server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube’s documented instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Start and verify the feed. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream status. Let the configured playout source advance while the encoder continues sending content.
- Keep the broadcast open between videos. Do not click End Stream or stop the encoder when you only want the current video to change. YouTube says stopping content from the encoder ends the stream.
Scheduled broadcasts and reconnecting
If you use a scheduled broadcast, check its automatic-start and automatic-stop settings before relying on a reconnect to continue the same broadcast. The OBS Project community guide says scheduled-stream Auto-stop disables the possibility of reconnecting later to continue that broadcast. It is a community guide, so confirm the current labels and behavior in your OBS and YouTube interfaces. Google’s broadcast lifecycle documentation describes optional automatic start and stop behavior.

The YouTube Live API also distinguishes a persistent video feed from individual broadcast resources: its 24/7 broadcast example describes a broadcast resource being started and later completed without stopping the video feed. That is an API-level example, not a user-facing playlist setup guide.
Plan for the live archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a longer continuous stream will be saved as one complete archive; plan a separate recording or archive approach if you need to preserve the full rotation. See YouTube’s encoder and archive guidance.

Rights and live-stream eligibility
Every video in the rotation must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may restrict access to livestreaming, so confirm that live streaming is available for the channel before scheduling an always-on feed. See Get started with live streaming. A continuous playlist does not change the rights or policy status of its contents.

Choose a playout approach

There is no established independent comparison here of playlist features or service reliability across these approaches. Compare the specific capabilities you need: playlist order, recovery after a disconnect, dependence on a local computer, archive management and operating cost. LiveGoLive describes playlist looping and broadcast rotation on its YouTube platform page; treat that as the vendor’s description, not independent validation.
