Rotate seasonal story collections by reviewing the playlist on a date that fits your channel’s calendar, checking each video’s audience setting and rights, updating the playlist in YouTube Studio, and verifying its public presentation. A seasonal playlist is usually an ordinary playlist; use an official series playlist only when the videos form a qualifying sequence intended to be watched together.
Plan the seasonal change
Set a review date around the season and your own publishing calendar. There is no YouTube-prescribed rotation cadence, ideal playlist length, or proven order that improves performance. Treat timing and selection as editorial decisions, not platform recommendations.

Record the review date, playlist owner, candidate stories, and a rollback note in your usual planning system. A rollback note can identify the previous playlist membership and order in case the new collection needs to be restored.

Choose an ordinary playlist or an official series

Do not use a series playlist simply to label a temporary seasonal collection. If viewing order is not an essential part of the collection, an ordinary playlist is the more suitable choice.

Review each story’s audience setting and rights
Before adding a candidate video, confirm that its Made for Kids designation is accurate. YouTube requires creators to classify content as Made for Kids or not, and offers both channel-level and video-level settings. Child-directed subject matter, including stories for children, is among the factors to consider; automated detection is not a substitute for the creator’s judgment. - A channel-level setting can suit a channel where the same audience designation applies to most content. It affects existing and future videos, but an individual video setting overrides it.
- For a channel with mixed audiences, review the applicable existing and future videos individually and use video-level settings where appropriate.
- Playlist rotation does not change a video’s audience designation or fulfill any separate children’s privacy obligations.
If you are considering an official series playlist, also confirm that your channel has the necessary rights to each video. YouTube’s series eligibility applies to the channel’s own uploads for which it holds rights.

Update the playlist in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the playlist-management area. YouTube’s computer instructions for creating and managing playlists describe playlist editing in Studio.
- Review the current membership and order. Add the selected seasonal stories, remove items that no longer belong, and arrange the videos in the order you want viewers to encounter them.
- Revise the title and description so they identify the season or theme and accurately describe the stories actually included.
- Check the playlist’s visibility and save the changes. Confirm that the setting matches how you intend to present the collection.
Check the collection’s metadata and policy compliance
A playlist’s title and description must not mislead viewers about what it contains. Review the playlist as a whole, not only its individual videos: YouTube’s Playlists policy also addresses collections depicting physical, sexual, or emotional mistreatment of minors.
Remove outdated items when they no longer fit the seasonal theme, and avoid language that implies a story is included when it is not. Clear metadata helps parents and other viewers understand the collection before choosing it.

Verify what viewers can see and do
After saving, open the channel’s public presentation and check that the playlist displays the intended videos and that its description matches. Do not assume every playlist control will be available on Made for Kids content: YouTube lists “Save to playlist” and “Save to Watch Later” among restricted features. Its playlist guidance also notes a limitation on adding Made for Kids videos to playlists from the homepage, while videos found through search can still be added.
Made for Kids status does not automatically put a video in YouTube Kids. The app has a separate suitability process; see YouTube’s YouTube Kids guidance.

Keep a rotation record
Note what changed and when in your planning system. At the next date you choose for review, decide whether the seasonal collection still serves its purpose or should be refreshed. This is a practical editorial routine, not a YouTube-endorsed optimization schedule.
