To rotate prerecorded product-comparison videos on YouTube Live, keep an encoder sending YouTube a continuous feed and configure that encoder—or a hosted playout service—to play the videos in sequence. YouTube Live is the destination, not the playlist player. The practical choice is between running software such as OBS on a computer that stays powered and connected, or using cloud playout so a local computer does not have to remain on.
Choose how the playlist will stay on air
| Decision | Local software encoder | Cloud playout service |
|---|---|---|
| What stays running | Your computer, encoder, power, and internet connection. | The provider’s hosted playout environment; you still configure and monitor the stream. |
| Control | Direct control over OBS scenes, overlays, sources, and live switching. | Depends on the provider’s current playlist and control features. |
| Operational work | Manage updates, sleep and restart settings, available system resources, and connection resilience. | Upload videos, configure the service, and account for provider availability and service cost. |
| Best fit | You want hands-on production control and can maintain a computer-based setup. | You want prerecorded playout without leaving a dedicated PC on. |
| Reliability evidence | The cited setup guidance is a workflow, not a comparative uptime test. | Vendor uptime and reliability guarantees are not established by the cited guidance. |
For a local setup, OBS can play a single file on loop with a Media Source. For a rotation of multiple files, use an available VLC Video Source or organize files and scenes with suitable automation. Keep the computer awake, the encoder running, and the internet connection stable. A cloud service changes where playout runs; it does not remove the need to configure and monitor the YouTube stream.

Check channel eligibility before scheduling
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, and the general eligibility guidance says creators must be at least 16. Check the current status and activation in YouTube Studio before planning a launch: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming and YouTube Help: Live encoder settings. Requirements can change, so confirm them in Studio.

Prepare and test the videos
Build a coherent rotation
- Use a consistent resolution and aspect ratio where practical, and inspect each file for damaged sections, missing audio, or unexpected black frames.
- Review transitions so the rotation does not leave long silent or blank gaps. If files use different codecs, frame rates, or audio layouts, check those transitions carefully.
- Watch the entire playlist at least once before launch. A successful first video does not establish that later files or transitions will work correctly.
- Product comparisons can go stale. Set a process to replace outdated prices, availability, and claims, and correct a defective file or interrupted program.
These are practical workflow checks, not guarantees of acceptance or uninterrupted service by YouTube.

Clear rights and follow platform rules
Make sure you have the necessary rights to all music, footage, product imagery, and other material in the videos. YouTube identifies copyright strikes and matches with another copyrighted live broadcast as possible causes of live-stream restrictions. Its guidance says live content must comply with the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; see YouTube Help: Restrictions on live streaming.
If a comparison includes paid product placement or an endorsement, account for YouTube’s live-stream rules and any disclosure law that applies to your relationship and jurisdiction. The platform guidance does not establish the precise legal wording for every creator’s circumstances.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Follow the current encoder setup instructions at YouTube Help: Live encoder settings.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream’s settings into the corresponding fields in your encoder. The stream key is sensitive: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast.
- In OBS or your chosen encoder, set up the video source or playlist so files play in sequence. Confirm the encoder is sending the intended video and audio to the scheduled YouTube stream.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room for incoming video, audio, and stream health before treating the broadcast as ready.
- Monitor the full first rotation, including every file change. Continue checking playback after launch, and keep a way to replace a faulty video or respond to an interruption.
Plan around stream limits and archives
YouTube Help lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. That is unlikely to affect a single rotating broadcast, but may matter if you operate multiple outputs. YouTube also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one nonstop stream will be archived indefinitely; plan for the stated limit and verify current behavior in Studio. See YouTube’s encoder guidance and live-stream eligibility guidance for current details.
