Use one YAML file as the schedule and content manifest, then have a controller translate its entries into timed scene or media changes in OBS or another playout tool. YouTube does not read a YAML schedule or switch the content of multiple live feeds from one. Each YouTube channel needs its own authorized stream setup, while your controller handles what plays and when.
What YAML can—and cannot—control
YAML can keep a human-readable schedule of channels, time zones, content blocks, and fallback actions. It is input for your own controller; it is not a native YouTube Live schedule format, and the available documentation does not establish native YAML import in YouTube or the Advanced Scene Switcher OBS plugin.

Keep two YouTube resources distinct:
liveBroadcast: the scheduled, watchable event, with lifecycle and scheduling information.liveStream: the incoming audio/video feed associated with a broadcast.
The YouTube Live Streaming API can manage broadcast events and stream resources, and YouTube playlist operations manage collections of YouTube videos. Managing a YouTube playlist does not select or rotate the media being sent by an encoder to a live event. Your playout controller must make that change before the video reaches YouTube. Choose how to turn schedule entries into changes
OBS with Advanced Scene Switcher
Represent each content block as an OBS scene or source configuration, then arrange for an automation layer to select it at the scheduled time. Advanced Scene Switcher supports date/time and media conditions and scene-switch actions; its release notes include a Macro Schedule tab for actions at a specified date and time. Its OBS Project Forums listing reports a minimum OBS version of 31.1.1 and Windows, macOS, and Linux support; the listing was last updated 2026-08-07. This is a building block, not a turnkey YAML scheduler. Unless you have a separately verified integration, a custom script or service must parse and validate the YAML and translate entries into actions that OBS can perform. For several independent outputs, confirm that your chosen playout and output arrangement supports the way you intend to send each channel; the cited documentation does not establish a maximum simultaneous-output count or a one-PC capacity.
A custom controller
A custom controller can read the YAML, resolve the next scheduled entry for each output, and trigger the relevant playout action. It provides flexibility over validation, logging, and failure handling, but you must implement and maintain those behaviors. Google’s API documentation describes authorized API operations and the broadcast/stream workflow, not a built-in multi-channel content-rotation scheduler.

Design a schedule that is safe to execute
Choose a schema that states where and when each change applies. The following is illustrative YAML for a controller you build; it is not a YouTube or OBS import format.

- Make each time unambiguous. Include an explicit UTC offset or define a named time zone and specify how the controller converts local schedule times. Daylight-saving changes can otherwise create missed or duplicated transitions.
- Choose either start/end intervals or a clear recurrence model. Define what should happen when no entry is active, such as selecting a standby scene.
- Decide whether entries may overlap on the same output. If overlap is not allowed, reject it rather than silently choosing one.
- Keep media paths and scene names consistent with the controller’s environment. Decide whether paths are local, shared, or otherwise available to the playout process.
Build the multi-channel workflow
- Prepare playout scenes. In OBS, create and test a scene or source arrangement for each scheduled content block and a fallback scene. Confirm that the intended media is available to the machine running OBS.
- Write and validate the YAML. Have the controller reject malformed YAML, unknown outputs or scenes, missing media paths, invalid time zones, and disallowed overlaps. Before enabling changes, log the parsed schedule and the next transition for each output so an operator can check the expected state.
- Authorize each YouTube channel separately. Make API requests under the account that owns the channel being configured. Google’s documented common pattern calls for a different stream to be created for each channel when an account has multiple channels; do not assume a single
liveStreamresource serves every channel. - Create and associate the broadcast and stream. Use the API workflow to create or select the broadcast event and the appropriate stream for that channel, then associate them as required. The precise API fields and state transitions are described in Google’s LiveBroadcasts and LiveStreams references and broadcasts-and-streams implementation guide.
- Map schedule rows to playout actions. At each scheduled time, have the controller select the correct scene, source, or playlist configuration for that output. A YouTube playlist object is not a substitute for this playout step.
- Monitor and test recovery. Record transitions and outgoing-stream status. Test what happens after a missed trigger, OBS restart, unavailable media, expired authorization, or network interruption before relying on the automation. The available documentation does not establish gapless switching, automatic recovery, or a particular concurrent-output capacity.
Plan for failures before relying on automation
- Missed transition: decide whether the controller should switch immediately to the currently active schedule entry or leave the current scene in place and alert an operator. Log the chosen behavior.
- OBS or controller restart: on startup, parse the schedule and calculate the state that should be active now; do not assume the process will replay triggers that occurred while it was offline.
- Missing or moved media: validate media references before the schedule starts and provide a fallback scene or an alert for files that become unavailable.
- Expired authorization or wrong channel: verify which channel owns the API authorization and the associated stream. Reauthorize with the channel owner account when needed.
- Network interruption: monitor each outgoing feed and define who responds to a dropped connection. Do not treat schedule execution as proof that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Ambiguous clock time: use explicit offsets or a consistent time-zone conversion policy, especially around daylight-saving transitions.
