To keep the opening video from playing again immediately when a YouTube livestream playlist wraps, arrange the OBS playlist so its last item is different from its first, then check that end-to-start transition. In OBS, use a VLC Video source for multiple media files and turn on Loop Playlist to keep the sequence running. Shuffle can vary the order, but it is not a reliable guarantee against the last and first items matching.
First, identify which playlist you mean
A YouTube playlist played by a viewer and a playlist of files sent from OBS into a live broadcast are different things. YouTube’s repeat control applies to playback in the YouTube player: its help page says, “The playlist will repeat continuously.” It does not change the sequence an encoder such as OBS sends to a live broadcast.

For a stream made from several local media files, the sequence is controlled at the source in OBS. Use its VLC Video source for a multi-item playlist; a regular Media Source is intended for individual media playback.

Add the multi-file source
In the scene used for the broadcast, add a VLC Video source. Add the media files you want to play to that source’s playlist. Confirm that the files are available to OBS and that the playlist order is the one you intend.

Enable continuous playback
Enable Loop Playlist if the sequence should continue after its final item. This repeats the playlist; it does not, by itself, prevent the last-to-first transition from repeating the opening item immediately.

Use Shuffle only for variety
Enable Shuffle if you want the items played in a changing order. OBS exposes this control, but the available documentation does not establish a guarantee that the final item in one cycle will differ from the first item in the next. Treat shuffle as an ordering option, not a no-repeat setting.

Prevent the opening video from repeating at the wrap
For a dependable boundary, control the order directly rather than relying on shuffle. Choose the opening item, choose a different final item, then review the sequence from end to start. The condition to check is simple: the last playlist item must not be the opening item. If you change the playlist later, check the boundary again.
This prevents an immediate repeat at the wrap in the arranged sequence. It does not prevent the opening video from appearing again later if the playlist contains another copy of it.

Check playback when scenes change
If the playlist source is hidden when OBS switches scenes, its playback behavior may depend on the source’s visibility behavior setting. OBS provides options for stopping or restarting playback, pausing or unpausing it, and always playing. Choose the behavior that matches your scene setup, then test a scene switch while monitoring the broadcast output. The option selected by default can vary; do not assume hidden playback will continue or reset without checking your configuration.
Optional: reshuffle with a community plugin
An OBS forum discussion describes refreshing a VLC source with the Directory Watch Media plugin to reshuffle a playlist. This is community-reported guidance, not a built-in no-repeat guarantee. Plugin compatibility and instructions may change, so check that the plugin supports your OBS version and follow its current documentation before depending on it. A manually checked playlist boundary does not require a plugin.

Troubleshoot a repeated opening video
- The first video plays again as soon as the list ends: Check the actual first and last entries in the VLC playlist. Put a different item last, then review the transition with looping enabled.
- Shuffle is on, but the wrap still repeats: Shuffle does not guarantee a different last and first item. Arrange and verify the boundary directly if that repeat matters.
- The playlist stops after the final file: Confirm that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
- Playback pauses or starts over after a scene switch: Check the VLC source’s visibility behavior options and test the selected behavior while switching scenes.
- The viewer’s YouTube playlist repeats, but the live content does not change: The YouTube player’s repeat control affects viewer playback, not the sequence OBS encodes. Change the VLC Video playlist in OBS.
