For an OBS-based YouTube live stream, add multiple files to a VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. That repeats the list, but OBS’s Shuffle Playlist setting does not promise a fresh shuffle on every pass or prevent the last clip of one pass from appearing first in the next. If you need a strict no-repeat rule, use a playlist controller that explicitly excludes the previous final item—or uses a shuffle bag that plays every item once before repeating—and test the transition before leaving the stream unattended.
First, distinguish a viewer’s loop from a live stream’s playlist
YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for an individual watching in the YouTube player. It does not change the content OBS sends to a live broadcast. To rotate videos in a 24/7 broadcast, configure the playlist in the software or service producing the outgoing feed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API likewise distinguishes the stream resource that carries audio and video from the broadcast resource representing the event: YouTube Live Streaming API.

So turning on YouTube’s player loop is not a fix for repeated clips in an OBS stream. The rotation has to happen in the playout source.

- No immediate repeat: the first clip after a playlist pass must differ from the final clip of the previous pass.
- No repeats within a pass: every clip plays once before any clip returns. This is stronger than simply reshuffling.
- A new order each pass: the sequence changes from pass to pass. This alone does not guarantee that the boundary clips differ.
OBS documents that Shuffle Playlist randomizes files, but does not specify which of these guarantees it provides. Users in an OBS forum discussion report that a shuffled order can stay the same on subsequent loops; treat that as a reported behavior, not a guarantee about every OBS version: OBS forum discussion of playlist shuffle.

Set up a looping playlist in OBS
- Prepare your files. Put the video files you have rights to broadcast in an accessible folder. Add more than one file if you want rotation; a single-file source can only repeat that file.
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, select the scene where the videos should appear, use the Sources panel’s + button, and choose VLC Video. Add the files to its playlist.
- Enable looping. In the source properties, turn on Loop Playlist. This makes the list restart after its final item.
- Decide whether to shuffle. Turn on Shuffle Playlist if a randomized order is useful, but do not rely on that setting alone to guarantee a fresh order per pass or to prevent a boundary repeat.
- Check hidden-source behavior. OBS lets you choose whether a VLC source stops, pauses, or keeps playing while hidden. If the source appears in multiple scenes, confirm the visibility behavior you want so switching scenes does not unexpectedly stop or restart playback.
- Test the transition. Record or privately test a complete playlist pass, including the last-to-first transition. If no immediate repeat is mandatory, verify that boundary specifically before using the setup for a long broadcast.
OBS documents the VLC Video source, its playlist controls, and visibility behavior in its media sources guide.
For a strict no-repeat guarantee, use a controller that enforces it
If your requirement is “play every clip once before any repeats,” a shuffle-bag controller is a better fit than an unspecified shuffle. The OBS project Playlist Deck describes its Shuffle mode as: “Bag shuffle: every item plays once, in random order, before any repeats.” That is the project’s stated feature, not an OBS guarantee. Check that it is compatible with your OBS version and scene, then test it across a full pass and the boundary before relying on it unattended.

- Preprogrammed streaming app hotkeys – Preprogrammed app hotkeys provide direct access to the most popular streaming apps: Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Hulu and YouTube
- Multi-device control – Operate Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio and Roku TVS, as well as one other device, such as a Blu-ray/DVD player, cable/satellite receiver, streaming media player, soundbar, etc.
- Simple setup – AUX button is preprogrammed for Roku boxes but can be reprogrammed to operate another device using auto code search or direct code entry programming; master volume control lets you adjust the audio no matter which device is being used
- U.S.-based technical support – Patent-pending universal remote comes with free U.S.-based technical support available Monday-Friday, 7AM-8PM Central Time to assist with any questions or issues; online step-by-step programming videos are also available
If you only need to avoid the immediate boundary repeat, use a controller that explicitly checks the previous pass’s final item before choosing the next pass’s first. A newly randomized order by itself is not enough to prove that condition.
Fix common playlist-repeat problems
- The same clip plays over and over: confirm you added a VLC Video source with multiple playlist entries, rather than a single-file Media Source.
- The playlist ends and stays there: check Loop Playlist. It controls whether the list restarts; shuffle is a separate setting.
- The same shuffled sequence returns: OBS’s documentation does not promise reshuffling on each pass, and forum users report a sequence may persist. Use a controller with an explicit per-pass rule if that behavior matters.
- Playback changes when switching scenes: inspect the VLC source’s visibility behavior and choose whether it should stop, pause, or continue while hidden.
- You have not checked the last-to-first transition: make a private test or recording long enough to capture a complete pass and its restart. A loop setting controls media order; it does not establish that a 24/7 broadcast will stay online or recover if the connection drops.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not keep a computer running, StreamNeo lets you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. Your home computer and connection do not have to stay on, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not live camera feeds. See StreamNeo, then start your free day.

Rights and unattended-stream limits
Only add files you have the necessary rights to broadcast. Playlist order does not grant permission to rebroadcast someone else’s video, and a loop does not itself establish continuous stream availability. Test the playout behavior you choose and monitor the broadcast according to your needs; the documented OBS playlist controls alone are not an uptime or recovery guarantee.
