You generally do not revoke it yourself. Microsoft’s current rules do not document a manual account command or console setting for revoking a disc-to-digital license. Instead, that limited digital license is conditioned on continued possession of the qualifying disc; if you no longer possess it, access may be suspended or revoked. Microsoft does not specify when that happens or how it is technically enforced.
First, check whether this disc has a digital entitlement
Owning or inserting an Xbox game disc does not by itself mean you claimed a disc-to-digital license. The feature applies only to supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X game discs for which the entitlement was successfully claimed or received, and Microsoft says eligibility may change. Check Microsoft’s current Digital Goods Usage Rules and supported-disc information before relying on eligibility.

In its August 26, 2026 announcement, Xbox said players could claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console and launching the game; the announcement said Xbox Insiders could begin testing on August 31, 2026, and noted that not every title would be available at launch. What to do before you transfer the disc
- Establish whether you received the entitlement. Do not assume this game disc created one; support is limited to eligible titles.
- Understand the possession condition. Microsoft’s rules say the digital license remains conditioned on continued possession of its qualifying disc. If you sell or give away the disc and no longer possess it, access to the associated digital license may be suspended or revoked.
- Transfer the physical disc as planned. Microsoft’s rules do not describe a separate transfer of the disc-to-digital license: it cannot be transferred separately from the qualifying disc.
Do you need to remove the game from your account?
The official rules reviewed do not provide a manual revocation process, account-removal step, Xbox settings toggle, or support procedure for this purpose. They also do not say that uninstalling the game, ejecting the disc, or removing anything from a console triggers revocation. Do not treat those actions as a way to revoke the entitlement. The documented condition is that you continue to possess the qualifying disc; the timing and technical mechanism for any suspension or revocation are not specified.
