To stop an AI agent from using an account, disconnect it in the AI platform; for stronger revocation, also remove the app’s authorization in the account provider’s settings. These steps stop future access, but they do not necessarily erase data the app already received or conversations and files the AI service retained.
Which access control should you revoke?
There are two complementary controls, and they are managed in different places:

For a managed workspace, an administrator may also need to disable an app workspace-wide. Changing an approval setting is not the same as revoking the connection.

- Open Settings > Plugins.
- Select the relevant app or plugin, then open Connected accounts or the app’s Connection section.
- Select Disconnect and review any confirmation warning.
- Check for other accounts connected to the same app and any workspace-managed connection.
OpenAI says disconnecting stops future access through that account. Uninstalling a plugin may also disconnect accounts attached to it; read the confirmation before proceeding. See OpenAI’s instructions for connecting and managing app accounts.

Changing app action-approval settings only changes when ChatGPT asks before using available access; it does not disconnect the app or remove the provider’s authorization. In a managed workspace, ask the administrator to disable the app if needed. Workspace-wide changes can affect other members, dependent plugins, or administrator-managed indexes. Remove an app’s access to your Google Account
- Open the Google Account third-party connections or linked apps page.
- Select the app, then choose See details > Remove access.
- Confirm the removal.
Google says an app may have access to the data and services you authorized, which can include Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Photos, or Contacts. Removing access revokes that authorization, but may not delete data the app already received. Contact the app developer to request deletion where appropriate.

Disconnect a custom app or MCP server in Gemini
- In Gemini, open Settings > Connected Apps.
- Find the custom app and disconnect it.
Google also documents unlinking an MCP server from Google Account Connected Apps. Unlinking revokes its permissions and disconnects it from Gemini; removing the custom app also unlinks the server. - Future access through the selected connection: Disconnecting in the AI platform stops that platform from using that connection, according to OpenAI’s guidance.
- The provider’s authorization: A platform disconnect or approval setting is not necessarily the same as removing the provider-side grant. Google provides a separate control for removing third-party app access.
- Data already stored or copied: OpenAI says disconnecting does not automatically delete existing or archived conversations, saved files, or memories. Google notes that developers may retain data already received; a separate deletion request may be needed.
Revoking one connection is not a complete account-security audit. Check for other connected accounts, provider-side grants, shared or administrator-managed connections, and any API keys or credentials you supplied separately. The effect of changing a particular credential depends on its provider and is not established by the product guidance above.

If you suspect the connection was compromised
- Disconnect the relevant connection in the AI platform.
- Remove the app’s grant in the provider’s account settings, when that control is available.
- Use the provider’s account-security process to review sessions and credentials.
These product instructions do not cover incident response for every provider. Do not assume that revoking one app connection secures the whole account. For services other than ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google Account connections, confirm the platform’s current disconnect path and the provider’s own grant or credential controls.
