To review Gemini’s access on Android, check three separate controls: the Google app’s Android permissions, Gemini’s Connected Apps, and Gemini Apps Activity. They govern device capabilities, connected services, and saved Gemini activity respectively—changing one does not automatically change the others.
1. Review the Google app’s Android permissions
Google documents the permission check through the Google app, which provides Gemini features on Android:

- Find the Google app on your Android phone or tablet and long-press its icon.
- Tap App info, then Permissions.
- Review Phone, Contacts, and Call Logs. Choose Allow or Don’t allow for each, according to your preference.
Labels and paths can differ by Android version and device manufacturer. If they do, open the Google app’s App info page in your device settings and look for Permissions. Google says Phone permission is required for Gemini’s Phone calling feature. Contacts and Call Logs are optional: Google describes Contacts as enabling calls to device contacts that are not synced to your Google Account, and Call Logs as helping Gemini connect you to the right person.

2. Review Gemini Connected Apps
Connected Apps is Gemini’s in-product control for connecting services. On Gemini web, Google’s documented route is gemini.google.com > Settings & help > Connected Apps. If that option is not shown, check Personal Intelligence > Connected Apps. Turn an app off there to disconnect it. For Android-only Phone and communication controls, use the Connected Apps settings in the Gemini mobile app.
The available menu and app list can vary by device, country, language, and Gemini app. Google’s Connected Apps guidance also distinguishes platforms: with Keep Activity off, Android may still offer Device assistance, Phone, Messages, and WhatsApp. Connected Apps are unavailable on Gemini web, iOS, and watches in that state; calling and messaging apps are also unavailable on a smartwatch.

3. Review Gemini Apps Activity separately
Gemini Apps Activity is where you can review or delete saved Gemini activity. Use the Gemini Apps Activity control in your Google Account. Deleting activity does not disconnect an app, just as disconnecting an app does not itself delete saved activity. Treat these as separate actions.
Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub says that up to 90 days of saved Google Assistant communications request history may be imported into Gemini Apps Activity in some circumstances, if you previously used Assistant for calls or messages. This refers to saved Assistant request history—not a complete record of every call on your device.
What Gemini says it processes for calls and messages
Google says that when Gemini uses Connected Apps for calls or messages, its mobile apps collect or process Gemini Apps activity (if available), device calling and messaging logs, contact information, and device information and settings. Google describes the purpose as selecting a helpful calling or messaging app and helping connect you with the right person. This is Google’s description of those connected interactions, not a claim that every Android call record is collected in the same way.
Google also says messages created and sent with Gemini are not end-to-end encrypted by Google. The Privacy Hub was last updated September 24, 2026; it says the Gemini Apps Privacy Notice was last updated June 29, 2026. The Hub identifies Google Ireland Limited as the provider in the EEA and Switzerland and Google LLC elsewhere.

Which control should you change?

So, does turning off Gemini activity stop Gemini from using your phone? No, not necessarily on Android. Google says some Android integrations—including Phone, Messages, WhatsApp, and Device assistance—may remain available when Keep Activity is off. Availability differs on web, iOS, and watches.
Keep these related settings distinct
Contact information from your devices
Google separately provides a Contact info from your devices setting that controls saving contact information from signed-in devices to your Google Account. It is not the same thing as granting the Google app Android’s Contacts permission.

Personal Intelligence Contacts
Personal Intelligence’s Contacts connection is a separate personalization capability, not an ordinary Android calling permission. Google’s current help page describes it as using data from Google Contacts and the device, and lists the connection as US-only, English-only, and requiring an AI Ultra subscription.
