To stop an AI assistant from accessing a connected account, disconnect that account in the assistant and review any authorization at the external provider. To stop charges, separately manage the saved payment method and cancel the subscription with whoever bills you. These controls are different: removing a card or disconnecting an app does not automatically cancel a subscription or erase data the app already received.
First identify which connection or payment you need to stop
Start by identifying the assistant, the account or provider it connects to, and the company that bills you. An app’s display name alone may not tell you which account is authorized or what permissions were granted.

- To stop account access: find the connected app or sign-in connection in the assistant and check the provider’s connected-app or security settings.
- To stop a stored card from being used for billing: manage the payment method where it is saved—the assistant’s billing settings, an app store, or another billing provider.
- To stop recurring charges: cancel the subscription with the merchant or store that bills you, then confirm its status and effective date.
For ChatGPT, app availability and controls can vary by plan, region, account, product surface, and workspace. Some connections may be established by a workspace administrator, so a personal account setting may not be the only control involved. See OpenAI’s connected-app guidance.
Disconnect a connected app in ChatGPT
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps or Plugins, depending on the controls shown in your account.
- Choose the app, then disconnect its connected account.
- If the provider offers connected-app or security settings, check there too and unlink the assistant if appropriate.
Changing an app permission is not the same as disconnecting it. OpenAI states: “Changing an app permission does not disconnect the app or revoke access already granted to a provider account.” Permission settings control how an available action is used; they do not necessarily revoke the provider authorization. In a managed workspace, an administrator may need to disable an app. A workspace-wide change can affect other members and dependent features. Disconnect a Sign in with ChatGPT connection
For supported sign-in connections, OpenAI documents this route:
- Go to Settings > Security and login > Login connections.
- Select Sign in with ChatGPT, then choose the app or site.
- Select Manage connection > Disconnect.
- If you want to end an existing session, also sign out of the third-party app or site; disconnecting the sign-in connection may not sign you out there.
This route is for supported sign-in connections; it may not appear for sign-in-only connections. Disconnecting also does not delete information the third party already received. Use that app’s deletion controls or contact its provider to request deletion. See OpenAI’s Sign in with ChatGPT guidance.

Manage saved payment methods where the billing is handled
A payment method stored with an AI service is a separate control from an app connection. For ChatGPT, the documented billing route depends on the account and the original billing channel:

If you used Apple Pay, review Wallet authorization separately
For eligible preauthorized merchant payments, open Wallet > More > Preauthorized Payments and select the merchant. Apple recommends managing the payment preference on the merchant’s website or in its app. In Wallet, Revoke Payment Authorization asks the merchant not to charge that Apple Pay method for future transactions; Apple warns that charges may still occur. Apple also says: “When you revoke a payment authorization in the Wallet app, you don’t cancel your subscription or other associated payments.” Confirm cancellation directly with the merchant if your goal is to stop a subscription. Confirm access, billing, and cancellation independently

- Confirm the account no longer appears as connected in the assistant.
- Check the external provider’s connected-app list, if it has one.
- Review the merchant or app-store subscription status and its effective cancellation date.
- Keep confirmation receipts or screenshots, masking card numbers and other sensitive details.
If a charge continues, contact the merchant or billing provider. If you do not recognize a charge, use that provider’s fraud or support process. Do not send support a full card number, security code, password, or verification code. OpenAI’s financial-data guidance also advises hiding sensitive details in screenshots and never sharing those secrets in support requests.

Keep payment details out of AI prompts and uploads
Do not enter or upload card numbers, card security codes, PINs, or other information that could be used to complete a transaction in ChatGPT conversations, files, or GPTs. OpenAI says payment details should be submitted only through its designated secure payment pages. See Customer Responsibilities in Safeguarding Financial Data.
