Review an automated edit on English Wikipedia by inspecting its diff and article context first; revert only the specific change that is wrong or disruptive. Use Undo for a targeted reversal, reserve Rollback for clearly harmful edits when you have the required right, and discuss uncertain changes on the article’s talk page.
Find the automated edit
Locate the edit in the article’s page history, Recent changes, or the account’s contributions. Where available, Edit Patrol can help filter automated contributions; its interface and access may vary. An automated-account label can help you find an edit, but it does not show whether the edit is correct. Assess the change itself before deciding what to do.
Inspect the change before reverting
Open the edit’s diff, the side-by-side comparison of that revision with another. Check what text was added, removed, or altered, then read the surrounding article content and, where useful, earlier or later revisions. Consider whether the edit is unsupported, inaccurate, disruptive, or otherwise problematic. Do not revert simply because an automated system or account made it.

Choose the right reversal method

Use Undo for one specific edit
- Open the target revision’s diff or history entry and select Undo.
- Review the edit form and the proposed result. MediaWiki attempts to preserve later edits, but overlapping changes can prevent it from undoing the revision cleanly.
- If the result is appropriate, save with a concise edit summary explaining what you reversed and why. If it would discard useful later work or cannot resolve a conflict, cancel and make a careful manual correction instead.
Use Rollback only when its broader scope is appropriate
Rollback is a privileged shortcut, not simply another name for Undo. Use it only when the last editor’s recent consecutive edits are clearly harmful and you are authorized to use the rollback link. Because it can reverse multiple edits by that editor, inspect the relevant revisions before acting; the currently displayed diff may not reveal everything rollback will affect.
Make a manual correction when needed
If Undo cannot safely preserve later changes, edit the page to repair the affected content directly. Change only what is problematic where possible, and explain the correction in the edit summary.

For an obvious, localized problem, make the proportionate correction and state the reason in your edit summary. If the edit’s merits are uncertain or another editor disputes the change, describe the specific concern on the article’s talk page and seek agreement rather than repeatedly reverting. MediaWiki’s guidance advises caution with reversions and recommends talk-page discussion when you are unsure: MediaWiki: Help:Reverting.
