Names and availability can vary as Meta rolls out changes across accounts and countries.
Find Meta’s ad controls
- Open settings in Facebook or Instagram. Look for Accounts Center or Meta Account. Meta announced in April 2026 that it is gradually transitioning Accounts Center to Meta Account over the following year, so either name may appear during the change. Meta’s announcement describes the transition.
- Open Ad preferences. Meta describes this as the central place to manage ad settings. The exact path and labels may differ by account or country. Meta’s Accounts Center announcement explains where it placed these controls.
- Look for Activity from other businesses. This is the name Meta announced in June 2026 for the expanded control over information businesses share. It was formerly called Activity information from ad partners. The older separate Your activity off Meta technologies setting is being discontinued as the expanded control rolls out, so do not assume it will still be listed. Meta’s June 2026 announcement outlines the change.
These are directions to inspect your account, not a guarantee that every label is already available to you. Meta has described a staged rollout, and the settings transition is gradual.

Understand the three levels of control

These controls operate at different levels; changing one does not necessarily do the job of another. Connecting multiple accounts in one Accounts Center is optional, Meta said in its January 2023 announcement. If accounts are linked, some preferences can be made consistent across them.
Check why a particular ad appeared
On an ad, open the three-dot menu and choose Why am I seeing this ad? Meta says the explanation can summarize how activity on and off Meta technologies may inform ad delivery. Depending on the interface, it may also link to Ad preferences or let you hide all ads from that advertiser. Meta’s September 2026 update says the feature is live on Facebook Reels.

Availability and menus are not necessarily identical across placements. Meta has described the feature on Instagram Feed, Stories, and Reels at different times; an ad placement may not show the same choices as another.
What Activity from other businesses covers
Businesses may share information about actions such as games played or purchases made on other websites. Meta says it uses this information to personalize ads. Its 2026 change expands the same setting to govern some personalization beyond ads, including Feed content and AI responses. Meta says, “We aren’t collecting any new data as part of this update.” That is Meta’s characterization of the change, not an independent assessment of its data practices.

Meta’s U.S. privacy notice also describes ad-related controls for activity information from ad partners and Accounts settings, and says it recognizes Global Privacy Control for people with applicable rights under U.S. privacy law. Those legal options are specific to the United States; do not assume they apply in the same way everywhere. Read Meta’s U.S. privacy notice.
Why older instructions may not match your screen
Meta’s 2019 explanation of Ad Preferences described sections showing businesses that had used an uploaded customer list to run an ad in the prior seven days, and businesses associated with lists used in the prior 90 days. Those windows are historical examples of transparency Meta once described, not verified current display periods or guaranteed features. Meta’s 2019 explanation is useful as historical context, not a current walkthrough.

For present-day navigation, rely on the controls visible in your own account. Meta’s Help Center material may require login, and the company’s announcements do not establish a universal country-by-country interface.
