Amazon’s shopping Browsing History and your order history are different records. You can remove viewed products from the Browsing History page and turn off that feature, but that does not delete purchases. Amazon says some order-history data must be retained for legal reasons, and archiving an order—if the option is available—only hides it from the default view.
Choose the history you want to manage
Start by identifying what you mean by “history.” A product you looked at is handled through Amazon’s shopping Browsing History controls. An item you bought appears in Your Orders. Your web browser may also keep a separate local record of pages visited, while an account-level privacy request concerns personal information more broadly.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
This distinction matters because the controls are not interchangeable. Removing a viewed product changes the displayed shopping-history list; switching off Browsing History affects future recording by that feature. Neither action cancels or removes a purchase. Archiving an order, when available, changes where the order appears in the account interface, not whether the transaction happened. Clearing a browser’s local history affects that browser on that device, not Amazon’s account records.
| Action | Record affected | What changes | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remove a viewed product or clear Browsing History | Products shown in the Amazon shopping Browsing History list | Removes one item from view or clears the displayed list | Does not delete orders or establish that all Amazon-held data is erased |
| Turn off Browsing History | Future entries in that shopping-history feature | Stops that feature from recording future browsing items | Separate from removing entries already displayed |
| Archive an order, if offered | An order in Your Orders | Moves it out of the default order-history view | It remains accessible under Archived Orders; availability varies |
| Submit a Data Privacy Queries request | Personal information covered by applicable privacy law | Requests access to or deletion of eligible information | Eligibility and the information that can be deleted depend on applicable law |
| Close an Amazon account | The account and access to its services | Removes access to order history and invoices | Amazon says some order-history data must be retained where legally required |
| Clear a browser’s local history | Web pages recorded by that browser on the device | Clears local browser history | Does not clear Amazon shopping Browsing History or Your Orders |
A useful rule is to choose the control based on the result you want. If you want a product no longer displayed in the shopping list, use Browsing History. If you want to inspect a purchase, find its invoice, or request a return, start with Your Orders. If you want to exercise a privacy right concerning personal information, use Data Privacy Queries where applicable. If your concern is the record of pages visited on a particular device, use that browser’s own history controls.

Remove products from Amazon Browsing History
Amazon staff instructions from 2020 and 2021 describe controls on the Browsing History page. The page location and wording can differ by device, app version, or region, so use the labels you see on your account rather than assuming every interface is identical.
- Open Amazon’s Browsing History page while signed in to the account whose history you want to manage.
- To remove one displayed product, choose Remove from view beneath that item.
- To clear the displayed list, open Manage history and choose Remove all items from view.
The individual-item option is useful when you want to remove a particular viewed product without clearing the rest of the list. The remove-all option is for clearing the displayed list as a whole. Check that you are signed in to the intended account before changing anything, especially if a device is shared or more than one household member uses Amazon on it.
These actions change what appears in the shopping-history list. Amazon’s Privacy Notice says its services collect or use browsing- and purchase-related information, so removing visible entries should not be treated as proof that every underlying record has been erased. The page’s displayed list is one customer-facing control; it is not a statement that all information associated with account activity has been deleted.

Clearing existing items and stopping future recording are separate actions. On the Browsing History page, open Manage history and use Turn Browsing History on/off to switch the feature off. If you clear the list but leave the feature on, later browsing can produce new entries. If you switch it off without clearing the list, the already displayed entries are a separate matter.
For the cleanest result in the displayed list, handle both tasks: remove the entries you no longer want shown, then check that the feature is turned off if you do not want it to record future shopping-history entries. Conversely, if you only want to remove a few products and still use the feature, remove those items individually and leave the setting as you prefer.
Do not assume that turning off the shopping-history feature also clears the web history in a browser, changes Your Orders, or disables every kind of personalization. Amazon’s Privacy Notice discusses browsing and purchase-related information and management of recommendations; the history toggle should be understood as the control for this Browsing History feature, not as a universal privacy switch.

Review orders and manage purchase history
Amazon’s Your Orders area is the place to find order details and use common order actions. Amazon Customer Service lists functions such as tracking packages, requesting returns or replacements, accessing invoices, and editing or cancelling an order where those options are available.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Your Orders from the Amazon account menu.
- Find the order using the order list or the available search and date filters.
- Open the order to view its details, then select an available action such as tracking, return or replacement, invoice access, editing, or cancellation. The options depend on the order and its status.
Your Orders is useful even if your goal is not to change an order. You can use it to identify what was purchased, review the order details, or access an invoice. The available actions are tied to the individual order: editing or cancelling is listed only where available, and return or replacement options depend on the order. If the action you need is not shown, do not assume that a different history control will make it available.
These controls manage an order or let you review it; they are not a permanent-delete command. An Amazon staff forum response posted in October 2025 says customers cannot permanently delete orders. That means deleting the displayed browsing list is not a way to erase purchases, and a purchase record should not be confused with an item you merely viewed.
What archiving an order does—and does not do
Where the Archive order option is available, it moves an order out of the default order-history view rather than deleting it. The order remains accessible through Archived Orders. Amazon’s UK help guidance says archived orders can be found by searching or filtering by date range in Your Orders; that UK guidance does not establish what is currently available in the United States.
Availability is not universal. In the October 2025 Amazon staff forum thread, the answer describes archiving, but other users report that the option is no longer available to them. If you do not see Archive order in your own order controls, do not assume you can enable it through a different URL or an extension; the cited guidance does not establish an official workaround.

It does not cancel the order, remove the transaction, or establish that Amazon has deleted associated information. If you need to locate an archived order, Amazon’s UK help says to search or filter by date range in Your Orders. Treat that as guidance for the UK help page, not a guarantee that the same labels and feature are present in every country or account.

If you are deciding between archiving and account closure, the difference is substantial: archiving, when offered, keeps an order accessible under a different view; closing an account removes your access to order history and invoices. Neither should be described as a guaranteed way to erase all transaction records, because Amazon says some data is retained when legally required.
Request access to or deletion of eligible personal information
Removing a product from the visible Browsing History list is not the same as asking Amazon to delete account-level personal information. Amazon’s US Privacy Notice says that, where applicable law provides the right, customers may submit access or deletion requests through Data Privacy Queries. The scope of a request depends on the law that applies and on the information Amazon is permitted or required to retain.
A privacy request is not a substitute for managing the visible shopping list or reviewing an order. Use the specific history controls for those tasks; use Data Privacy Queries when you are seeking a privacy-rights request concerning personal information. The wording “where applicable law provides the right” is important: it does not promise that every customer can request deletion of every kind of information, or that every request will result in the removal of all records.
If your concern is broader than one visible product or one order, the privacy request route is the relevant channel described in Amazon’s US notice. Be clear about what you are asking to access or delete, and understand that legal requirements may affect what Amazon can remove. The notice is about rights where applicable law provides them; it is not a one-click clearing control for the shopping list or order history.
Know what account closure changes
Closing an Amazon account removes access to order history and invoices. Amazon’s account-closure guidance also explains that some records are retained when legally required for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes. Amazon Customer Service states: “Note: Be advised that Amazon is legally required to retain some types of data, such as order history.” Account closure therefore is not a reliable way to erase every transaction record.
Before starting closure, download invoices and other records you may need later. Once account access is gone, you may no longer be able to retrieve them through the account. Consider whether you need order details for records, returns, or other follow-up before closing the account; the key limitation in Amazon’s guidance is that closure affects your access while some data may still be retained under legal requirements.

Account closure is broader than removing a viewed product or hiding an order, because it affects access to the account and its services. It is also not a guaranteed deletion method. Amazon specifically says some types of data, including order history, may be legally retained. If your aim is simply to clear products from the displayed Browsing History, use the history controls instead of closing an account and losing access to records you may still need.

Clear Amazon Silk’s local browsing history separately
Amazon Silk has its own browser history, stored locally on the device. Amazon’s Silk FAQ says this history can be viewed, searched, and cleared, and that Silk also offers Private Browsing. Those browser controls concern pages recorded by Silk on that device; they do not remove products from the Amazon shopping account’s Browsing History or remove orders from Your Orders.
If the concern is a shared device, identify which record you are clearing: Silk’s local web history, the shopping account’s viewed-product list, and the account’s orders are separate. Clearing one does not clear the others. For example, clearing Silk’s local history addresses pages saved by Silk on that device; it does not clear an account’s product-view list. Removing a product from the Amazon shopping list does not clear Silk’s record of visiting a webpage.
Silk’s Private Browsing is another browser-level option mentioned in Amazon’s FAQ. It belongs to the Silk browsing context and should not be treated as a setting for the shopping account’s Browsing History or order list. If multiple people share a device, account sign-in and device-local history are distinct considerations: use the right control for the record you are trying to manage.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Calling browsing history “purchase history.” Viewed products and placed orders are separate. Use Browsing History for viewed items and Your Orders for purchases.
- Assuming one clear action erases everything. Removing products from the visible list does not establish that all account-level information is deleted.
- Turning off future recording but leaving old entries visible. Switching off the feature and clearing existing displayed items are separate actions.
- Assuming an archived order is deleted. Archive, when offered, changes the default view; the order remains accessible under Archived Orders.
- Relying on archive availability across regions or accounts. The October 2025 forum thread reports differing availability, and UK help guidance does not establish current US availability.
- Closing an account before saving needed documents. Account closure removes access to invoices and order history, while some transaction data may still be retained for legal reasons.
- Mixing up Amazon account history and local browser history. Clearing Silk’s local record does not alter Amazon’s shopping history or order list.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I permanently delete my Amazon order history?
Amazon staff forum guidance from October 2025 says customers cannot permanently delete orders. You may see an Archive order option, but where available it hides an order from the default view and leaves it accessible under Archived Orders. Amazon also says some order-history data is retained when legally required.

Does clearing Amazon Browsing History delete my purchases?
No. Browsing History is the displayed list of products you viewed, while purchases are listed in Your Orders. Removing viewed items from the Browsing History page does not delete orders.

How do I stop Amazon from adding products to Browsing History?
Open the Browsing History page, go to Manage history, and use Turn Browsing History on/off to switch the feature off. This is separate from removing entries already displayed; use Remove from view for one item or Remove all items from view to clear the list.
Why can’t I find Archive order?
Archive availability appears to vary by account or interface. In an October 2025 Amazon staff forum thread, an answer describes archiving while other users report that the option is no longer available to them. If you do not see it, the cited guidance does not establish an official workaround.
Will closing my Amazon account erase every order record?
No. Closing an account removes access to order history and invoices, but Amazon says it is legally required to retain some types of data, such as order history, for purposes that include tax, accounting, and fraud prevention. Download records you may need before closing the account.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

No. Silk’s history is stored locally on the device and concerns webpages recorded by the browser. Amazon’s shopping Browsing History and Your Orders are account records managed separately.
The Bottom Line
Use Amazon’s Browsing History controls to remove viewed products, and switch the feature off separately if you do not want it recording future entries. Use Your Orders to review purchases and available order actions. Archiving, where offered, only hides an order from the default view; a privacy request or account closure has different scope, and Amazon says some order data may be retained when legally required.
