An AI-generated cart is a proposal—not a substitute for your own review. The exact interface depends on the service: in DoorDash’s announced ChatGPT grocery flow, for example, the assistant creates a shoppable list and sends you to the DoorDash cart to review, adjust, and purchase.
How do I review an AI food order before checkout?
Review the cart in the ordering platform itself, rather than relying only on the AI conversation or summary. DoorDash’s description of its ChatGPT grocery flow directs shoppers to the DoorDash app cart before purchase, where they can inspect and adjust the list. Other services may use different screens and steps.

- Open the cart. Follow the link or handoff from the AI tool into the restaurant, delivery, or grocery app. Confirm that the cart shown there is the order you intended to build.
- Compare each item with your request. Check names, sizes, variants, and quantities. Look for missing items, unintended extras, or substitutions that do not match what you asked for.
- Check dietary and ingredient details that matter. Review product information and, when necessary, verify it against the packaging or ask the restaurant. Do not treat an AI-generated ingredient or nutrition summary as medical advice.
- Inspect the checkout total. Check the amount displayed at checkout, including any fees or other charges shown. What the interface breaks out can vary, so rely on the actual checkout screen rather than assuming every service presents the same fee details.
- Make corrections, then confirm deliberately. Remove or replace items and correct quantities before placing the order. Read the final checkout screen before you tap the button that submits the purchase.
Can I change an AI-generated food order before I pay?
Usually, the practical time to correct an AI-built cart is before checkout: edit the items in the ordering app, then submit only when the cart matches your needs. DoorDash’s own AI-assistant guidance says: “Always review the items in your cart to ensure they fit your specific requirements, quantities, and dietary needs before checking out.” The company also cautions that AI can make mistakes and product information may be out of date; for ingredient or safety concerns, check product packaging or confirm details with the restaurant.

Available edits depend on the particular ordering experience. DoorDash’s September 30, 2026 announcement describes Ask DoorDash as a text-assisted restaurant ordering and grocery experience, with U.S. users able to apply for a beta. Its December 2025 ChatGPT announcement describes grocery shopping from recipes, not a universal restaurant-ordering interface. The services should not be assumed to share the same cart or confirmation steps.

What should I check for allergies or other dietary needs?
Use the AI to help find options, not to certify that food is safe for you. Check the restaurant’s or product’s own ingredient and allergen information, and contact the restaurant when a safety-critical detail is unclear. For groceries, inspect the package information for the exact product in your cart; an AI summary or listing may not reflect a current formulation. If the information cannot be verified, do not rely on the AI’s answer to make a safety decision.
What does the confirmation step mean?
Some integrations distinguish between building or previewing a cart and actually placing the order. In DoorDash’s developer documentation for agent integrations, submitting an order places it and charges the customer, and the integration must obtain explicit end-user confirmation in its interface. That is guidance for developers using those tools, not a promise that every consumer app uses an identical confirmation screen. In any app, treat the final order button as a purchase action and check the displayed order and total first.

What if I already submitted the order?
After submission, use the service’s active-order help or in-progress editing flow as soon as possible. Whether a change is allowed depends on the platform, the order, and its status; a placed order is not necessarily editable.

The option appears conditionally, so check the active order rather than assuming it is available.
- Uber Eats grocery order: Uber Eats documents certain edits while an order is being picked, before completion and subject to item status. Later item changes may require contacting the shopper.
If the app does not offer an edit option, follow its support instructions rather than placing a duplicate order or assuming a change has gone through.

How do AI food-ordering experiences differ?
There is no single standard interface for AI-assisted ordering. DoorDash’s public examples illustrate distinct workflows: a ChatGPT grocery list that hands off to the DoorDash cart, and Ask DoorDash, which the company describes as text-assisted restaurant ordering and grocery shopping. DoorDash’s AI assistant help page describes the assistant as a limited pilot. Its MCP developer product is separate: a private beta for corporate and organizational ordering, not currently available for consumer-facing product integrations.
DoorDash has also reported product usage and basket-size figures for Ask DoorDash, but those company-reported figures do not establish order accuracy or safety. They should not be taken as evidence that an AI-generated order needs less checking.
