To keep the selection for later, save it as a playlist rather than relying on a browser queue; when power and internet are back, reopen YouTube and start the playlist or video again. Autoplay can move to another related video after a video ends, but it is not a power-loss recovery feature.
Save the podcast selection before an outage
Save a browser queue as a playlist
If you assembled podcast episodes in a YouTube queue on a computer, save that selection to a named playlist before closing the browser. YouTube says, “Your queue won’t save after you’ve closed your browser.” A playlist preserves the selection for you to open later; it does not guarantee that YouTube will restore the exact episode or playback position after a power loss.

Use Autoplay for the behavior it actually provides
YouTube describes Autoplay as playing another related video after the current video ends. Turn it on if you want playback to continue between videos, but do not treat it as a way to recover a session interrupted by a shutdown. Autoplay settings and behavior can differ by device, and YouTube’s guidance also notes inactivity limits.
Restart playback after power returns
- Restore power and connectivity. Turn the streaming device back on and confirm that the router or modem has internet access.
- Reopen YouTube. Launch the YouTube app or open YouTube in your browser.
- Open the saved playlist. Select the podcast playlist and start the episode or playlist again. If you did not save a playlist, find and replay the video manually.
- Check playback. If it does not start, use YouTube’s general troubleshooting approach: return to the app and try playing the video again.
The cited YouTube help guidance does not promise automatic restoration of the previous playlist, item, or timestamp after a device restarts. Actual behavior may vary by app, browser, operating system, and device, so check the specific device if automatic resume is important.

Prevent interruptions during short outages
A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) can provide battery power to compatible connected equipment during an outage. Depending on its capacity and the connected load, it may keep the router or modem and streaming device running long enough to bridge a short interruption. Runtime is finite and depends on the equipment drawing power; a UPS does not make YouTube restore a session if the stream or device has already stopped.
- Identify which devices need backup power, such as the modem/router and the device playing YouTube.
- Choose a UPS rated for the combined load and the runtime you need; do not assume every model will keep all connected equipment running for the same length of time.
- Keep in mind that a power outage elsewhere in the internet connection can still interrupt service even if your home equipment remains powered.
What YouTube Music’s connected-device setting does
YouTube Music documents a “Continue Listening on Connected Devices” feature for continuing active queues across connected devices. Its guidance describes switching devices, not recovery after a power outage, and it should not be assumed to apply to all YouTube playback.
