Restore the photo as soon as you find it—these recovery windows are limited, and a photo permanently deleted from a trash folder generally cannot be restored through that service’s normal recovery process.
How to recover deleted photos from Samsung Gallery

Open Gallery on your Samsung phone.

Tap Menu, then Recycle bin. Depending on your device or app version, the labels may differ.

Tap Edit, select the photos, and tap Restore.
Samsung says deleted images and videos stay in the Recycle bin for 30 days before they are deleted forever. The bin must have been enabled before the photos were deleted. See Samsung’s Gallery recovery instructions.
How to restore deleted photos from Google Photos

Open Google Photos on Android.

Tap Collections, then Trash.

Touch and hold a photo to select it, then tap Restore.

Google’s current Android help says items remain in Trash for 30 days. Items permanently deleted from Trash cannot be restored through Google Photos’ normal recovery flow. Follow Google’s restore steps for Android.
If the photo is missing, check these places
Google Photos Archive and account
A photo may be archived rather than deleted. Check Archive in Google Photos and unarchive the photo to return it to the library view. Also confirm that you are signed in to the Google account that contains the photo and check whether backup was enabled. Google explains how deletion and backups work in its photo deletion guidance.

OneDrive
If you previously synced Samsung Gallery with OneDrive, check OneDrive directly, including its Recycle bin. Samsung’s instructions describe a 93-day Recycle bin period for Gallery-synced files, while Microsoft’s general policy gives 30 days for personal accounts and 93 days by default for work or school accounts; work or school administrators can change that period. Because the guidance depends on the account and integration, check promptly rather than assuming a single retention window. Samsung Cloud Temporary cloud backup
If you made an eligible Samsung Cloud temporary backup, sign in with the Samsung account used to create it. Samsung says temporary cloud backups can be retained for up to 30 days. The restore path is Settings > General management > Reset > Temporary cloud backup > Restore data. Menu labels may vary by device or software version. See Samsung Cloud’s Temporary cloud backup information.
Memory cards and other copies
If your phone uses a removable memory card, check it for a copy of the photo. Also look in any existing Gallery trash and check copies you already made on a computer or another device. Google notes that deleted photos may remain on a removable memory card; its device storage guidance covers local copies and freeing space.

Why a photo can disappear from Gallery but remain in Google Photos
Google Photos actions can affect the local file and the cloud library differently. When Google Photos is installed on Android and backup is on, deleting through the app can affect local copies on the device. By contrast, Free up space removes local copies that have been backed up while leaving them viewable in Google Photos; those photos may no longer appear in Samsung Gallery. A photo missing from Gallery is therefore not, by itself, evidence that the backed-up copy is gone. Google explains the distinction in its deletion help and Free up space instructions.

What if you emptied Trash or the photo is no longer there?
Check the other locations above: a different app’s trash, an archive, OneDrive, Samsung Cloud, a memory card, or a copy on another device. But if the photo was permanently deleted from Google Photos Trash and no other copy or eligible backup exists, Google’s documented recovery route cannot restore it. The official guidance cited here does not establish that a third-party recovery app or service can retrieve a photo in that situation, so do not assume one will.

Samsung and Google menu names can vary by device, app version, and region. If a menu path looks different, look for the corresponding Trash, Recycle bin, Archive, or backup option in the relevant app or account.
